I remember watch a video where the mechanic claimed they put two of those rubber seals in the bullet to stop those types of leaks. My thm 350 oldsmobile transmission had the same problem.
I have same issue, with a th350, but it seems like it's coming from the cable? I pressed the bullet in, and replaced gear. Do They leak from the cable?
Hi I have a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne C10 454 400 tranny all factory 42000 miles on it my cousin ordered it brand new. The speedo is leaking o ring?? If so, where to get one? Thank you for any help you can give me. My cousin passed away and I really want to get it up and leak free
I have a transmission specific parts store where I live. You could try rockauto.com, summit, maybe amazon. If all else fails call the store here and let them know what you need. It's called Idaho Transmission Warehouse, they might ship to you.
How similar would this be for the TH400? Mine loves to leak and the speedometer needle swings around a bit at low speeds. Might I need all of these parts as well? I've looked around on Rock Auto and they show nothing of this sort, so where might I find parts like this for my 67 Impala 327? Interesting I've been to Meridian many times as I'm just over and down from you in SLC.
I think the 400 is basically the same. You can try calling Idaho Transmission Warehouse and see if they have the parts you need. They might even ship them to you. Thanks
I just watched a video on the channel performance automatic. They say that bullet is made from aluminum from the factory and they actually wear out causing erratic speedometer and I would imagine leaks as well. They make a steel replacement . By the way I’m having the same problem along with other leaks. Good luck.
It appears I might still have a small leak but I'm not sure if its from the cable or not. I haven't crawled under the car to look but seems farther forward now. It for sure stopped leaking for a while, but I've had to add about a quart and a half of fluid to the trans and now its got a small leak again. I'll keep you posted on what I find out...
@@meridian208 not long ago i bought a 71 chevy c10, it's leaking trans oil and just found out its from the speedo bullet, thanks to your video now i know how to replace it. Thank you!
Well, I'm not entirely sure yet. It did stop leaking for a week or two. But my transmission was a little low on fluid. Not enough to where it shifted weird or slipped, but showed low on the dipstick. As I added in more fluid to fill it up I noticed a leak starting again. However, the leak looks like its coming from further forward on the trans than the cable. It could be the pan now, I haven't crawled under the car again to verify what it is. I will try to do an update once I see what is going on. Thanks
So after changing all the stuff and reseating the inside of the bullet, what do you think caused the initial leak? Do you think you could have just tapped the inside of the bullet down and fixed it without replacing the plastic gear piece?
Hello, I noticed mines leaking in the same spot, i saw how u loosened the main connection, is there it possible just to tighten that up? Sorry for the crazy question.

Thanks for this video. I’ve used it twice now. First in the powerglide in my 64 Nova wagon and now on the TH350 on my 70 C10.
Thanks for the tip. Replacing seals in my bullet now so if it still leaks I'll know this sweet little tip.

yes, after changing all these parts and driving the seal further into the bullet it seems to have finally fixed the leak :)

Would the TH400 (1967) use a similar "bullet" and plastic gear as well? Any advice on where to find any of these parts? Thanks!
What if you hit those threads with a little teflon tape before you screw the cable back in?
The cable itself does not seal anything in. It just screws on, teflon tape wouldn't help...
So did this stop the leak for good
yes, driving the seal further into the bullet finally did the trick.
@@meridian208 thanks i will try that too keep up the good work 👍👌
I have c10 mines leaking right in the same spot you think that can be it ?
How did you find the part #s for the bullet and the gear?
Where I live there is a transmission specific parts warehouse. They had all the info.
Thanks for sharing.. very useful information
Will it be the same as the 700r4 Chevy transmission

@meridian208 has the leak held up?
What happens if you don't screw it all the way in? Lol
Would it make your speedometer gage not work properly?
That's a possibility

Did you have to drain the oil prior to removing the parts
Some will leak out but I did not drain mine.

In some cases that may work. In mine the gear and the seal were worn too bad initially.
