The thing no one’s telling you about self-care (Christian women ESPECIALLY need to hear this!)

    Many people don't realize prayer, reading the Bible, staring at nature, relaxing in the sunshine, and having that alone time with God noticing His beautiful creation is an amazing form of self care, relaxation, gratitude, centering ourselves and counts as meditation - maybe since many in the world are looking for something quick to relieve stress and get a feel good moment, the general opinion of how to do self care is centered around their version of self and escape.
    As Christians we have more options and you have found some that are less talked about...and don't often fit into society norms. Hopefully we can share this view of learning and doing what comes naturally is also self care. So often including God in the everyday building up of ourselves can be overlooked or religiously sensationalized that we don't get the chance to see how rejuvenating our small moments and practices or natural habits can be.

    Thank you! This was so helpful. I am a stay at home mom with three kids aged five, four and one and a half, and recently tried to explain to some friends why the only thing I really want is "just sit and stare at the trees", and not travelling, going to places, meeting people, having hobbies, it literally feels like another job, not relaxing at all. Greetings from Russia

    As a christian, i honestly love self care. I feel it's a way to optimise myself physically, spiritually, and emotionally and that in turn motivates me to do better by others. Because I have used god's wonderful material and spiritual gifts to give myself the love and attention only I can give myself, I have enough to afford giving better love and attention to others. The only thing i would say about it is that there is a fine line between self care and selfishness. You should only put yourself first when you need to.

    So glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t read novels! I absolutely LOVE reading, but it’s never fiction, same deal here…Bible study, personal growth, etc. it’s just who I am. ☺️ You’re doing awesome! Love this message!

    You just summed me up and my lack of hobbies or “ visible” talents. My husband is the complete opposite with a list of talents and hobbies and degrees and I’m “ just a mom” !!! So glad hat you are out sharing this with the world!

      I could've written this comment! I feel ya! It's been just recently that I've been truly embracing my role as a homemaker and helpmeet...I've been at it for 16 years.😳

    Love this! While I do love a good bubble bath, that is not my typical self care. Self care for me is getting up earlier than everyone else, spending some quiet time with my devotion and thinking thru my day.

      Amen! I want to keep working on getting my bedtime earlier so I can get up earlier and have a bit more kid free quiet time!

    So good! Especially about staying close to Jesus; it's His Presence that fills my soul. I will say I have some quick stress relievers; chocolate, grabbing a good novel or true story to get my mind out of stress mode. Thank you for sharing! Oh, and getting out into God's nature is so calming and rejuvenating!

      I think there's a fine line between something being an unhealthy escape or a healthy, intentional respite. So many things can be consumed from a healthy OR unhealthy place given the situation... Books, TV, chocolate, alcohol...

    If you need to feel whole and purposeful, hug those beautiful little gifts from God! Snuggles from my kids always put the important things in perspective! I’m so blessed to have them. God gave them to me to train them in His ways. It’s easy to think I don’t have enough “me time.” Just gotta remember what truly matters.
    God is good❤️

    Yes, yes, yes! It’s awesome to hear you say this. I really enjoy listening to nonfiction books while cleaning and organizing at my own pace- so now I’ll just call it my hobby! Thanks for sharing

    Thank you for this. I am one of those people who do not have a hobby nor do I do self-care - the worldly definition of self-care. However, I read personal development books, parenting books, and faith-based books - Yes Jesus books. Thank you for saying that going to church for our spiritual growth and to strengthen our faith is a form of self-care - that is self-care written all over it. I teach Sunday school and I work at a public school full time. I also have two boys and a husband so that in itself is a full-time job as well. Life is tough and we all need self-care. However, self-care does not have to look the same. And you are so right - er have to focus on the fruits of our self-care.

    Love this! I’m with you all the way. I love to read but have to force myself to throw in a fiction book every few months, because it’s always Christian or self-improvement books that I am drawn to….but If that’s what we like it’s what we like! ;). It’s relaxing to us!

    • @DianaKerr
      @DianaKerr  3 роки тому

      The last couple times I tried to read fiction I didn't enjoy it and gave up! So I agree, stick to what you love! I do try to be a tad more selective on Sunday Sabbaths with my books though and read books about home decor or hygge or Jesus, for example... those are more relaxing than a business or productivity book. haha
