      He sinks his head into the wall because he knows Sam's issue isn't money but morals. He morally doesn't want to go through with this, understandably so, and there's nothing Tuld can really do to alleviate that, so he's in a tough spot himself. If Sam doesn't do his job, which will wreck the jobs of everyone under him and cause financial chaos to various others, even his own son, then everyone in the company will still ultimately suffer including Tuld and the shareholders he answers to, and the financial chaos will happen inevitably anyways but no one on their end will survive it.

    It's always worth remembering, the company and Tuld was taking a big risk. They didn't know the market was going to crash, just that it had become dangerously volatile over the last month or so.
    If the market had recovered, or the Fed had intervened with massive monetary easing before the 2008 crash, they'd have been left having sold millions and millions of dollars of securities at knockdown prices for know reason.
    The laughing stock of the markets.
    It shows Tuld's power in this, he's paid to evaluate and decide, then take the consequences of that decision, that's why he's paid the big bucks.

At that point nothing is going to save the market. The FED can intervene and stop some of the panic but unless they literally print money to pay for every single worthless MBS these firms would've still taken some massive losses.

      Probably $10 million and another 10, if the whole floor liquidate at least 90 - 95 % in that one day... Cause Sam promised every trader who works under him at least $1.5 million if he/she hit his/her 90% goal and another 1.5m. if the whole floor hit that magic 90%, so it should be way more than $5m. They are about to lose billions if they wait any longer with these MBS toxic assets, so all this millions in bonuses is a pocket change for a firm like Goldman or Morgan St

    • @sittingduck02
      @sittingduck02 4 роки тому +1

      Nick Lubatinsky I’d agree but in the movie Head of Risk got 1m a day to stay quiet. So 20m might be a stretch but not completely impossible, 10m is more reasonable for a day of fire sale as M.D. , anything more than “normal” you are also risking SEC jumping on management later due to Sarbanes-Oxley.

    • @Nikowalker007
      @Nikowalker007 4 роки тому +2

      @@sittingduck02 That is true, but 50% of that 20 million could be in stocks that are closed for a year or two, just to please SEC and persuade Sam to stay in the company. I just feel that Sam probably knows something shady was going on for years in this company, he tried to warn CEO, Jeremy Iron's character that with such a huge leverage, they were pushing to the limits, in terms of risk. Hence, CEO is afraid Sam might potentially testify against him to the board of directors or to SEC if the firm does not make out alive or attempt a management coup if it does. Still, he needs him to be on his side because he feels Sam is one of the few people he can trust in this firm, but even Sam has his own ethical limits that's been pushed to the max for years, Sam and Jeremy Iron CEO know each other for 30+ years. "You know I'm with the firm, not with you in this situation..."
      So, I feel like it definitely could be $10m. total, cash, closed stocks + company stock and another $10m if they manage to liquidate everything toxic in that one day and not end up filing for Chapter 11 by the end of the year. "Sam, you are very important piece in this puzzle and I need you to be on my side... "

      @sittingduck02 4 роки тому +2

      Nick Lubatinsky Yes, you definitely have a point. Non-cash bonuses are usually paid out during q1 next fiscal year so most people would stay at least till then.
