Trumpets can be heard and isolated with everyone playing. A euphonium isn't as obvious, and benefits from having the band pared down while it is leading. As an arranger, the first situation is a lot more common than the second. Euphonium solos are great, but any really intricate section work would just get lost in the mix. All other things being equal, the second-highest voice tends to get most of the melody.
French horns don't get the most solos, however; the solos that they do get are some of, if not the most recognizable solos in any genre involving them.
Dude I’m a French horn player and trumpets always get the glory..they’re the “top” instruments..like really the trumpets get too much at a time that not even other instruments get to enjoy what it feels like to be the too
I’m a 9th grade student and I’ve been playing the trumpet for 6 years now. I just began to play the euphonium and I’m to addicted to it. Hope one day l’ll have a tone as beautiful as yours. Love it so much!
the euphonium is such a beautiful instrument which literally translates to “sweet sounding” and the name holds true. i played baritone for marching band and euphonium for concerts. since i graduated this year, i got my own euphonium as a grad gift.
I’m in middle school been playing trumpet for 4 years and I gotta say out of all the solos I heard this is the most soothing one ever it’s so calm and smooth it’s just a great solo with a great instrument controlled by a great person. Good job
Such a beautiful tone. Do you have and tips on how to get a sound like that and what type of mouthpiece are you using.(I’m a high school euphonium player looking to improve)
Hi my friend, I use Parker mouthpiece, it's custom so you won't find identical model on their website but Lance LaDuke series is very close. In regards to tone, check videos on my channel in the "Educational videos" playlist, you'll find multiple tutorials on tone development. Best, M
@Orochi There is a book by Clark Arban for euphonium and trombone. Very good book for developing a wide range of things. Google "Complete method for trombone and euphonium" you will find it on various sites to order from. Worth getting if you want to improve.
Definitely the horns. You can go from a loud, high solo like Sigfried’s Call to a nice low solo like in Beethoven Symphony 9 mvt 2 or to something as iconic as the Binary Sunset solo.
Literally all brass. Everyone has something to share. If you really wanna know. Trumpets. They just have that feeling like in babylon SCV 2018 trumpet screamer part
This is the most pure sound I've ever heard a Euphonium produced. I absolutely love it, bless this man and his wonderful skill. You are a new idol I strive to be as a Euphonium player. Bless you good sir!
I’m Japanese high school trumpet player. I was so surprised at your euphonium performance ‼︎ I think that l have to practice it more 😵(I’m sorry if I am wrong because I am not good at English.)
Both are equally adept at the melody line but where the Euphonium excels over the trumpet/cornet is the counter-melody (especially arpeggio) work- Amazing Grace is a great example 🥰 Plus it’s timbre is gorgeous
As a trumpet and cornet player I've had the opportunity to play some very nice solos over the past 50 years. In our community band we also have a wonderful euphonium player who also plays the baritone. These are all great solo instruments. I remember seeing jazz trumpet player Maynard Ferguson back in the 70's. On that concert he played trumpet, flugelhorn, valve trombone and euphonium; all equally well. What ever great brass instrument you choose above all strive for a beautiful sound, without it the rest means nothing! As Doc Severinsen would say "the answer is simple, practice, practice, practice! Thank you for posting this great video!
I’m an 8th grade trumpet player, and I have a solo in one of the songs and not to be egotistical, but it sounds so good with the song I really love the trumpet sound ❤️😜
Don’t be afraid in the room. When it’s your turn to play don’t forgot about taking deep breaths and using air to fill the room!! If you mess up KEEP GOING if you stop and play it again the judges will place you lower. Good luck on your audition, you’re going to do great! :)
I play oboe (not professionally though). For brass band arrangements and repertoire, definitely euphoniums... No one tell my brother I said that though, he plays trumpet professionally LOL
Such a beautiful sound. I don't know if you have yet, but could you possibly speak on the subject of trombone players picking up euphonium, and the best way to approach doing so? I have been playing Trombone for eleven years now, and Euphonium roughly two years. I am finding it challenging to find my own sound on euphonium.
Who gets the best solos? A very good question, but the best piecea have a trumpet melody with euphonium countermelody, as a euph player from way back that was always my favourite.
Quick question. In what school did you learn to play euphonium? How many years are you playing right now, and are you teaching in schools or only on youtube? Love watching you videos and seeing, how you can pull off everything with ease ;)
They get barley any,and saxophones just play along with the solos, Sax and horns don't really blend well. Horns and Clarinet kind of blend better together,I'm really annoyed that saxophones just play what ever horns play most times. The horns just get watered down by all the other instruments. Being honest,Tenor Sax sounds ok but almost every instrument is better
@@bonku9863 Saxophones blend fucking amazingly. Any director or composer will tell you they're amazing at blending. They were created specifically to be this sort of middle ground that blends really well.
I mean you can’t really compare solos by instrument. It’s all based on the piece being played. Each instrument has its own beautiful sound and while 1 piece may have an incredible trumpet solo others may feature an oboe or bass clarinet or euph.
I feel I have a top authority as I've spent many years with both. Euphoniums get better solos, trumpets get better parts.

Mal-2 KSC play loud
Euphonium: ---16--- C note ---15quadrillion--
Trumpet: plays 40 notes in the span of 5 seconds 69 times
Trumpets gets too much spotlight
What about the poor French horns and trombones
French horns don't get the most solos, however; the solos that they do get are some of, if not the most recognizable solos in any genre involving them.

The second solo gave me chills🥺

Yeah I wanna make babies with the euphonium
Thank you man this gives me so much more confidence to go to band/marching band playing euphonium.

always the euphonium ;)
The euphonium is more sonorous and more closely resembles the human voice which I think it’s particularly nice in pieces like these.
