  • Batman's ADAM WEST was banned in Aspen for FIFTEEN YEARS! It seems like Adam West has been around forever. But when he first appeared as Batman on the small screen back in 1966, he was a huge hit. So why was West banned from Aspen, Colorado for fifteen years? The answer is pretty shocking.

As kids we would run around the back yard with a homemade cape singing the Batman theme song. Bunch of crazy kids all declaring we were Batman
doing fight scenes. Great fight scenes that sometimes got out of hand.💥⚡💥🦇✨💫🦇
Hilarious childhood and fabulous TV show.
    Thanks for the memories

Interesting facts about Adam West & Burt Ward that's for sure but What I found hilarious is that at 8:32 the picture of the batmobile coming out of the batcave is a picture of my diorama that I made some years back. Second time this picture is used by UA-camrs when talking about Batman. 😂 very cool!

I was 11 & still remember the issue of LIFE magazine that was published right before the show's debut. It was the car that did it for me.

…And made Bob Kane (Batman’s creator, and his estate) FILTHY RICH! Did you ever notice that Caesar Romero never shaved his mustache to play the joker? Oh, the producers asked him to, but Romero told them “No way, Jose!” In earlier days, Romero was a mustachioed motion picture Latin Lover. And one must admit, Yvonne Craig was an absolute DOLL! Even as early as 77 Sunset Strip (an address which does not exist, by the way).

My mum made me a cape and cowl when I was 5. I wish it still fit. My one year old sister got a Robin cape. She wouldn't wear it. Adam West IS the best Batman. I wonder if a straight, crime version of Batman would work?

Interesting story: Batman was on the verge of cancellation at the same time the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice" was in theaters. Sean Connery decided he didn't want to return as Bond, so the producers went about the job of recasting. Adam West was approached to take the role, but it would mean turning Bond into an American agent, and West felt Bond should remain British. Thus George Lazenby was cast for the next Bond movie, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service".
But think about that for a moment. Batman and James Bond sharing an actor. And I think Adam West could have pulled it off.

Of course George L was an Aussie. Adam would have been an interesting choice but I think he's right. Brits only.

Batman was made as a comedy in line with the changes forced on the strip in the aftermath of Fred Wertham"s book, "The Seduction of the Innocent".

When I was fout this dhow premiered. I loved it! Two decades later when I warched it again I realized it was a comedy! As you state, it was a comedy without a laugh track, but it was not plaued fot laughs. They played it straight which added to the humot. Avtuallu, ABC canceled the shiw because it had become too expesive to make All thosr trick umbrellas and colored smoke hsd to br manufsctutrdf\\edsd well ad othrt props and expensice sets.

I was a 70s child and watched those reruns as if my life depended on it. Today, I own the series on DVD and occasionally watch episodes. In the 80s, I was at a Con and saw the Batmobile of West and Ward. Great memories. Still fond of the show.

I think Batman was very influential because a number shows like Lost in Space and the Wild Wild West which were on about that time start out blank and white and when Batman aired they went color and not only did they go color they went very garish and over the top like they had not been before.

In the 1960s we wanted superheroes on the screen and on television. I was a Marvel fan but still could appreciate Batman. The first Catwoman was really attractive and so was Batgirl. I believe what ended the TV show was the use of guns. No way could Batman get his bat shield up in time not to be riddled by bullets from a machine gun. Also if Shame (obviously poking fun at the western character Shane) should have been able to easily gun down Batman and Robin. The sexual antics of the stars are fascinating. They were like rock stars. Good to know.

Way to go Batman and Robin. Those were the swinging sixties and that's what you were supposed to do with that fame. Bang as many as possible. You only live once and at that time it was about making memorable experiences.

I was a rabid fan of Batman in the comics, when the tv show came out, I was at first excited beyond description, then seriously disappointed in the actual show, thought the villains more comical, than scary, & Batman seemed more like some weird schoolteacher, & I was depressed that he, & Robin’s eyes weren’t blank fields of white, with their masks on, like in the comics…(I was about 6 years old)
