"Twenty twenty twelve" - Ciro's out here living in the future! 😂😝 I'm super stoked to see Proton back in South Africa. I really hope it works out for them this time! Also, the bakkie was called the Proton Arena. 😉 Having Volvo underpinnings is a massive feather in Proton's cap, in my opinion. The XC40 has been rather successful in SA so far. Thanks for the video, Ciro!
I believe the x50 had to be thoroughly re-engineered as a RHD vehicle and not simply just flipping the steering position. This is why you may feel that the fittings have a more quality feel to it. Also, the suspensions have been tuned by Proton engineers who used to work together with Lotus while Proton was still the owner. While I wouldn't say that the engine is a Volvo one, Volvo did participate in the development of this engine. My mom drives the x50 and I've driven the car quite a fair bit (had it for 1.5 years now) and the engine certainly doesn't lack power. It certainly feels more powerful than the 1.8 corolla cross that my sister owns.
In Malaysia, X50 has 4 variants.. Sun roof is available on FlagShip Variant. Among the advantages is the ADAS System.. It can follow the car in front up to 0km, emergency break assistant, lane departure assist, Cruise Control, auto parking and many other things..
Here in Malaysia the top variant comes with the sunroof, but there's reported case of leaking when it's raining, despite the car being just 4 months old. The reason might be leaves or debris clogging the sunroof drain causing the leaking, not all x50 are affected tho.
After owning a GWM P LT series for over one year I do not recommend any product from Haval. The vehicle is ok. Nice specs and great looks however the downfall is after sale service and lack of honoring warranty claims. I believe the issue is a lack of an established product backup. I've driven all including the Proton 50.

From what Proton was back in the day to what it looks like now is a huge improvement especially with the Volvo engine. Unfortunately money talks in this country and the pricing of this Proton when comparing to the other Chinese brands with what they offer at top of the range is really a big sell to pay more for less spec than you would have compared to a Haval or Chery for less of the money with more spec. Proton in my option should have returned humbled price wise first and get consumers in its corner before throwing out big numbers. Close to 600k for a 3 cylinder 4 pipe Proton! Did they charge more for those pipes also in the price?
Proton is not considered a cheap brand in 🇲🇾 mate. It moved up the stakes leaving Perodua@ Daihatsu clone (another 🇲🇾 car brand) to sell their cars at the basement segment. Certainly Proton would be miffed if lumped in the same basket as a Haval or Cherry 😁!

Compared to the X50 Premium, you'd still have almost R49,000 left over for fuel.
Due to the high tax on foreign carmakers in Malaysia, Proton is fairly affordable. Especially since its direct competitors are usually Japanese and Korean. Proton is never compared to the Chinese brands here.
This car is visually very attractive, really does look premium, but the Haval price and specs are just too good to turn away. The Haval is such a steal.

We’re waiting for Proton S50 in Malaysia. Predicted to launch sometime next year. If Proton to sell the Persona in SA, I’m pretty sure it’ll be a lot cheaper than many of its competitors. It’s the cheapest segment C sedan in Malaysia, cheaper than a segment C hatchback from Perodua. Perodua is another Malaysian brand and its whole existence is aim to sell affordable cars.
Fully agree. That was the first and most turn off for me. 4pipe for SA market on standard car? The pricing aswell is not make sure. They'll have to go back to drawing board and fix the failed first impression
The only conclusion that I could come to is that it is overpriced, I don't think this strategy of theirs is going to work but we'll have to wait and see.
Hoping for a BAIC Beijing X55 review. The Asians have really come full-force, now. By the way, that rear view tailpipe presentation by Ciro was hella crazy 🤪
Guess it's price-sensitive to spec pano roof, adaptive cruise etc in. In Malaysia it can even park itself. Pricey products w/ less spec will not make a good comeback😔
I think using the Proton name here in SA if they want to go premium wasn't the best call. I would have brought the Lynk & Co name rather to SA. It's unknown, but as soon as you Google that name and look at the cars, it starts to sound and look better than a Proton. Time will tell. Love the Geely story, quite an awesome story actually.
Ciro please!! How does this one compare with the Cross XR. I sent you an email 3 months ago. Noe response. Only me and wife. No children. Also looking at BAIC now. Must take a decision this week. Thanks a lot.
For me it would be between the Toyota corolla cross 1.8 XR non hybrid and the Haval Jolion Super Luxury but goodness I'm a budget car kinda guy and wow car prices are ridiculous these days
Was chatting to a panel beater on Friday. Says they have Mazda, Haval and GWM there for the past 6 months awaiting spares. So choose wisely. Not sure why Mazda was also there..guy said parts for Mazda were really hard to come by lately.
I think the biggest problem with all these new cars is that we bunch them all together as we don’t really know them. For example, we know Audi is supposed to be more premium then let’s say VW and so are more expensive. So is the Proton supposed to be more premium then let’s say Haval and so it’s more expensive or is it just the same? If so it’s way overpriced, but maybe it’s not if it’s premium?

I personally would wait for the budget Sedan they bringing to SA it's called the Persona.
Including the Saga budget sedan and Iriz Hatchback
@@Smite-MeisterEd Yeah Those cars look very sporty and Aerodynamic.
@@fab8490 persona is not C segment sedan. DIA segmen B. Wait, sejak bila perodua buat C segmen ni?LoL
@@manusiaklon2164 shrink it to 1 segment lower lol. I got them mixed up
I really love what's happening with this come back from car companies that were seen as poor quality car.
Cheap not poor. Usually cheap quality made car last longer than luxury car. That is the fact
Why you are not comparing x50 premium model vs others premium model instead?
Proton malaysia 🇲🇾🇲🇾❤
Nevermind the pricing, a 1.5 litre 3 cylinder turbo with quad pipes is a deal breaker for me 😂
😂😂😂
Aesthetics
@@sirsilva7079 Not aesthetically pleasing when the car has more pipes than cylinders.
If it’s BMW X1 118?
Fully agree. That was the first and most turn off for me. 4pipe for SA market on standard car? The pricing aswell is not make sure. They'll have to go back to drawing board and fix the failed first impression
Why you chose to compare with 1.5 executive....why not 1.5 premium tgdi....🤨🤨
The only conclusion that I could come to is that it is overpriced, I don't think this strategy of theirs is going to work but we'll have to wait and see.
Closes to 600k for a Proton! 😐 They might close shop again with this strategy.
Which type X50 you are driving in this Vid? The highest quality out model? I'm going to get one soon, getting more reviews and survey as much as I can
middle upper specs. Highest specs do got sunroof
Well done presentation 👍👍
love from Malaysia,
Hoping to see the XUV 700 review!!
Booked X 50 Flagship in Mauritius
Already taken my X50 Flagship enjoyed the ride. Very nice car
I just got to know it now August 2024 and I love it I will buy it soon
Hoping for a BAIC Beijing X55 review. The Asians have really come full-force, now. By the way, that rear view tailpipe presentation by Ciro was hella crazy 🤪
I'm driving the same spec here in Malaysia, actually there's another top of the range flagship model with sunroof
Price is the only reason id look at haval or tiggo
Chery is unreliable crap where as protons are based on reliable Volvo technology
Proton Jumbuck or Arena, that was the pickup called
This is actually a Geely car inside, assembled in Malaysia by Proton. Very reliable, offering a great value.
Actually is land wind X 7
Guess it's price-sensitive to spec pano roof, adaptive cruise etc in. In Malaysia it can even park itself. Pricey products w/ less spec will not make a good comeback😔
Great car but really looking forward to the Beijing x55 review😀
Please review proton saga 2022 I’m from malaysia want to see your review
I think using the Proton name here in SA if they want to go premium wasn't the best call. I would have brought the Lynk & Co name rather to SA. It's unknown, but as soon as you Google that name and look at the cars, it starts to sound and look better than a Proton. Time will tell. Love the Geely story, quite an awesome story actually.
Lynk & Co is a very bad name to marketize as a car brand let alone a premium luxury brand
Meanwhile, proton has already made it's name to global market long time ago despite being push first as affordable cheap car
@@manusiaklon2164 unreliable cheap car you mean?
@@hasrularifi4970 unreliable? LoL. Kalau unreliable kenapa saga jadi the best selling newcomer car in the UK dulu?
Dh sampai kereta proton di afrika. Hrp xde lah isu spare part yg masih dihadapi org malaysia.
Kat sana RSA alat ganti lebih Banyak dari unit x50 Yang terjual... Tiada masalah spare parts..
Ciro please!! How does this one compare with the Cross XR. I sent you an email 3 months ago. Noe response. Only me and wife. No children. Also looking at BAIC now. Must take a decision this week. Thanks a lot.
Just take this X50. More luxury, a bit more powerful engine and much more refined in terms of ride&handling because proton are popular with that.
From Malaysia. 🇲🇾👍
I got a 2009 proton gen 2 and love it!
For me it would be between the Toyota corolla cross 1.8 XR non hybrid and the Haval Jolion Super Luxury but goodness I'm a budget car kinda guy and wow car prices are ridiculous these days
Proton might leave again after pricing their vehicles so aggressively with less spec.
Was chatting to a panel beater on Friday. Says they have Mazda, Haval and GWM there for the past 6 months awaiting spares. So choose wisely. Not sure why Mazda was also there..guy said parts for Mazda were really hard to come by lately.
Crazy I tell you. I saw it afew weeks ago and when I asked the driver who was a saleswoman for the price the conversation ended right there
Just look past the initial saving to see the long term resale.
Malaysia 🇲🇾❤️
Nice looking car. Will stick with my 2.0 XT though.
Have you try the Hello Proton features?
For some reason I actually like it, the interior looks good But that price is just way off the mark,
I'm so happy to see a car that doesn't have a massive grill
better without sunroof...few user experience leaking during raining here in Malaysia.
Someone will buy this because of 4 pipes. This is South Africa 🇿🇦
Why do I feel personally addressed here? 4 pipes is such a temptation
@@Alex-kz7eb 😂😂its a South African thing. Just like a Sunroof. There is a cool factor about them
It's smokes a fore ranger 😂😂outright and many of your fav cars soo whats your point brother
woooo nice car proton sudah masuk ke pasaran macam negara sangat membanggakan ♥️🥰Happy good days bro from 🇲🇾 malaysia
For the first I see you testing a vehicle with WP plates.
I was impressed by the car when I saw it but the price is a turnoff when Haval & Cherry are in the mix.
