Thanks for watching the video! I am learning piano and enjoy listening to classical music. I really enjoyed making this video and I hope you enjoy watching it! Let me know how many you guessed in the comment and of course, let me know if there are any mistakes! Sound. - MT
#16 was a vibraphone not a glockenspiel
the glockenspiel was a marimba, and the xylophone was a vibraphone. just learned it a few minutes ago….
also wednesday is playing the cello right?
#16 is not a glockenspiel, it’s a marimba! A glockenspiel, also known as bells, is distinctive for its high pitched sounds, and its keys are made of metal. The marimba has a larger range, going well into the bass clef, and it has a more mellow sound due to its being made of wood.
the instrument on the left is a vibraphone, and the one on the right is probably a xylophone.
glockenspiels are far smaller than vibraphones, and marimbas have a softer tone than xylophones.
@@RtsShrtFrRtthw youre right about the vibes but that is 100% a marimba. xylophones typically have less range than vibes (the marimba in the video appears to be larger than the vibes) and you absolutely do not (or rarely ever) use 4 yarn mallets on a xylo because xylos don't play chords, and they're not made for soft mallets like that (and will hardly produce sound because of the shorter resonators), while marimbas are. also just in general most mallet percussion duets are written for a vibraphone and a marimba.
@@merlin7794 oh, that makes a lot of sense. i'm not a percussionist, so i'm no expert haha :)
I was confused as well. Its Vibraphone and Marimba but the Video said Xylophone and Glockenspiel 😂
@@RtsShrtFrRtthw it is vibraphone, xylophone not glockenspiels and marimba glockenspiels is metal and it is smaller and the keys are slim i did mallet percussion for 5 years since 3rd grade i a played all of the mallet types well most
i hate to study for music listening exam
gl
yes
this is just a fun game
Same I’ve got one today
I got one tmr
Percussionist here: #15-16 This is not a xylophone and Glockenspiel. That is a Vibraphone (left) and marimba (right).
I was going say that it was vibes and marimba
Fr that makes me so annoyed 😭
Thank you for letting me know I wasn’t the only one
i was going to say that lol
same here
The first one is actually a piccolo trumpet
That’s why I had a hard time identifying it
and a tiny one at that, looks like it could be a C piccolo, but interestingly doesn't have a 4th valve.
I was looking everywhere for this comment. I knew it was a piccolo something, but the fact that they just put trumpet is like labeling a clarinet as a bass clarinet.
Just got a cochlear implant and I’m learning to hear again. This video is great for recognizing instruments ❤
When your "tuba" is actually a euphonium
I thought it was to high for tuba!
It’s a tuba, euphoniums have an extra key for the hand you’re hugging it
As someone who plays the Euphonium, and is in a brass band, that is not a Euphonium, that is a Tuba. It is simply playing higher in it's register than you might be used to hearing. Additionally, tuba's can have the extra valve that @phineas1117 is talking about and come in several different shapes/keys. The way to tell if it's a Euphonium is by the size (usually don't have to stretch to reach around it, and the bell will be at head height when resting on your lap (not the chair). It is also higher in pitch than other tubas (yes I said other, since the Euphonium is technically in the tuba family), but the tone will be slightly different in the overlapping registers (it will sound thinner on tuba than euphonium in the tuba's upper register)
The best instrument sounds quiz so far on the internet. Exactly what I've searched for. Hats off, sir.
Many thanks. I'm glad you like it. 👍
I pretty sure the first instrument was a piccolo trumpet or could be played by a C trumpet. Just want your listeners to know.
I knew it didn’t sound like a typical trumpet
I love the sound of both the cello and piano. The piano has a smooth and soothing sound to it while the cello has a dark and rich sound to it
you can thank wednesday for the cello :D if my theory is correct that is
you can hear the piano all the time in hotels don’t worry
I love the way you really go through all of the notes so that if you are a bit stuck it helps you out example: viola and violin. I would have had no idea if you didn’t play the highest notes of them both. Thank you!
Danke das du mir beim Musik Test unterstütz ❤😂

Fact:
There are two types of people here, kids in online school, and weird neckbeards who listen to this for fun.
agreed i for one tho am listening to this for school
I'm doing online school too.
same this is n o
I'm an absolute beginner in music and this video is helping me develop my listening skills.
Online school.
I always wondered why I never could distingush the Triangle in an orchestra. Now I know, I heard total silence when #19 played.
I actually have characters for the instruments in this video, they’re called instrument characters
Trumpet: Terry Trumpet
French Horn: Fernando Horn
Trombone: Tom Trombone
Tuba: Toby Tuba
Violin: Vikki Violin
Cello: Charlie Cello
Viola: Victoria Viola
String Bass/Double Bass: Shawn Bass
Oboe: Obi Oboe
Flute: Fiona Clef

Timpani: Diana Daniels
Harp: Angela Angel
Xylophone: Diana Daniels
Glockenspiel: Ginger Glockenspiel
Snare Drum: Diana Daniels
Piano: Pauline Piano
Triangle: Diana Daniels
Marimba: Marcia Marimba
Disclaimer: Sometimes I name the characters after their instruments. Clarinet and Bassoon Clef are good examples and Diana Daniels is the instrument character for all of the percussion instruments in the orchestra, so that’s the reason you see Diana’s name more than once. Also, the instrument characters can be the human versions of their instruments or just simply characters who are assigned an instrument.
That's awesome! Thanks. 👍

I’m a trombonist in my school’s symphonic band. And I got 19/20. Only missed Xylophone, guessing Marimba.
This is quite good. It is a shame you grouped all the instruments by type. Makes it much easier to guess.
For me, there are only some slight nuances within specific ranges of instruments that make some instruments of differing families sound similar (sax/oboe for example)... but for the most part, I hear instruments sounds pretty much distinct to a specific family, so it really didn't matter they were grouped by family. I find it harder to recognize same family instruments, unless their top or bottom extremes are played.
Everyone: “came for a music lesson”
Me: “came for my favorite instruments” (clarinet and bassoon)
Yes! I still play bassoon 💕🎶

I enjoy this test, it’s crazy to hear technology takes the place over these beautiful instruments.
The very first one was not a normal trumpet but a piccolo trumpet.
I got everything correct except for the Tuba one. I thought it was a saxophone.
I thought it was a eupho
range was a bit higher than you'd expect because it was either an Eb or an F tuba.

@@nkdude11 oh that makes sense why I thought Is was a euphonium! Thankyou.
0:20 is that a piccolo trumpet?
That's a vibraphone, not a glockenspiel.
And it's not a xylophone, that's a marimba. Yikes.
I was looking through the comments, searching for someone saying this! Thanks ;-) You are totally right, as a percussionist I can confirm :-p
I love how you did brass instruments first, strings second, woodwinds third, and percussion fourth/last (minus the harp)
Nvm harp sounds like a percussion instrument
@DiddyBiggy That was over a year ago-
@DiddyBiggy But it’s a string I’m dumb lol
the harp is both a percussion and strings instrument.
@@oboeland4050 the harp is both a strings and percussion instrument

This is a useful video, but one wish: I wish they were mixed up in a more random order rather than by instrument family!
Great comment. Thanks.

I was struggeling with with viola and cello.
That was unfair, xylophone AND glockenspiel together!!! hehe Well done to throw in that gotcha!
It’s not even a xylophone or a glockenspiel hahaha. It’s a vibraphone and a marimba.
For future reference, glocks have a very metallic, bright sustained sound and xylophones have a very distinct sharp, wooden short sound whereas vibraphone and marimba are softer, warmer sounds. Vibraphone also has a sustain pedal like a piano.
i got all right except French Horn and Glockenspiel
Thats because the "glockenspiel" was actually a vibraphone

Hi. Amazing video. My wife, Lidia C.P. is a music teacher. Can she use this as didactic material in one of her power point presentations wich will take place in may 2023 while she is tested for obtaining the 1st Degree qualification? You will be fully credited of course. Thank you for your time :)

Love' from india jharkhand jamshedpur jugsalai chaprahiya mohallah 0:42
I know this is out there, but does anyone know the name of the piece played on bass? It seemed like a cool piece and I’m looking for one for my orchestra audition next year
Question of the day: Why do they have the sax on the cover image when it is a band instrument, not orchestral?
Sax has plenty of orchestral repertoire!
As an orchestral composer, I got them all but fifteen and sixteen, which were playing with soft mallets, which is not really representative of their sound. As an orchestral percussionist myself, I think it's a horrible example. Both are generally played by plastic or hard rubber mallets. Glocks use metal mallets a lot. They sound almost like marimba and vibraphone.
Number one was also a piccolo trumpet, or a pocket trumpet.
I’m ok on the strings and percussion but confused with the winds 😅
0:19 Trumpet, 2:00 Violin, 4:46 Flute, 5:05 bassoon, 5:27 clarinet
Thanks mann
Thanks, this is a fun way to "test" my elementary students> Thanks!
Number one was a piccolo trumpet and 5 was a viola
I got 14 out of 20
Ones I got wrong were:
Viola (didn’t know what it was because I’m not familiar with strings yet)
Cello (thought it was double bass
Xylophone and Glockenspiel (thought it was either marimba or vibraphone)
Flute (thought it was clarinet)
Bassoon (thought it was clarinet)
Oboe (thought it was alto saxophone)
Everything else thought I got right
You got 15 right, the creator is an idiot who has no idea what he is talking about. 15 was Marimba and Vibraphone
I also thought that the bassoon and flute were clarinet. I play clarinet myself, and I, for some reason, couldn't tell the difference..
It was marimba and vibe duet - the creator got it wrong 😂 I'm a percussionist so it drove me nuts, and the comments are all talking about that one being wrong
Has a bassoonist, I can't Believing that they confuse the sound of the bassoon with the sound of some other woodwind instrument😭 It doesn't make sense to me

6:37 There are 4 common mallet instruments used in Orchestral settings, and you had 2 of them in this video, and you STILL somehow managed to get it all wrong. The 2 instruments present are Marimba and Vibraphone. Xylophone has a very sharp staccato sound, and Glockenspiel has a very high pitch to it. If you think it's hard, its not. All you have to do is 5 minutes of research and you will know the differences.
Appreciate the comment, if not the tone of it.
