This is one of my favorite games. It sees a lot of play in my game group. The different types of bidding are a blast, and it's fun to get into the theme by pretending to be a pretentious art collector ("Oh my goodness, a Karl Gitter original!" "I find Christin P's work to be pedestrian." "This piece really speaks to me!"). I know that's stupid, but it makes the game even more fun! I have yet to win one game, but it's still a ton of fun for me. This may be my favorite Knizia game as well.
Great review! Managed to somehow find a copy of this in nearly unplayed condition for $35 (including shipping) yesterday. Quite the steal considering the lowest listings for similar quality in the BGG store are $50+ without shipping. :)
+Caden Laptad Not sure where you live, but people in Europe at least, you could find the Scandinavia edition released by Lautapelit.fi as it's not out of print. Price for new is like 20 euros, although the art is not the same as in this edition.
If anyone knows of a video on the card game version of this--it was mentioned very briefly in the video--I'd love some to see it played. We have that version.
Interesting. I recently got Vault Wars and it would have been cool to see some more of this kind of auction variety in the game. Maybe in an expansion...
Re "never pay more than 50%", it's not that straight forward! By buying a painting at a high price from a poor player, you may deny a stronger player the chance to make profit. True, the weaker player may make more money out of the transaction than you, but does that really matter if it puts you 10 or 20 ahead of your closest rival? More nuance than many give it credit for. Plus the weak player who is a kingmaker, a good player will be that king they make.

Played this for the 1st time last night. It is now my 12th favorite game! 4 of us played and it was our 1st time for all of us.
I think the Dice Tower needs a "Don't slam my box!" t-shirt.
+Nick Switzer Are we doing phrasing?
+Nick Switzer That's what she said.
+Nick Switzer Funny. I don't think that goes with the family friendly image of the Dice Tower though. Maybe pitch it to the Secret Cabal guys.
Poor Billy Bob. He never gets any love. :( Love these reviews!
HA! So happy the box slam got left into the final cut!
Actually, in this video had Jason much more space and it was more interesting to watch than last episode. Keep it up :)

Got it for $9.99 at Half Price books yesterday! Box has normal wear but the game is in great condition. Excited to play it.

There we go! The previous version was a bit confusing
A look into Jason's collection...oh sweet nectar ;)
I have been after this game since my copy went walk about :( hopefully 1 day I will get another copy, just hope I still enjoy it :)
This is Jason's Series... isn't it? So give him the screen time, we don't care if it is "polished" (whatever that means anyway) or not...
+onlythistube he had more space here, no problem in this video imo.
Pegasus/Matagot is the edition you want to have.
Enjoy the game very much.
This is an excellent game. I would give it an awesomeness rating of 9.
The game is so much fun. A high 8 for me. Party game.
Actually, if you know art it's about the auctions as value is pegged to it.
Box slam for the win.

This one looks poor... however...I've got Matagot multi-lingual version and it is much, much better in terms of components.
