The principal actors never met each other. They all read their parts separately, with a reader feeding them the lines. John Lithgow later admitted that, while he enjoyed playing Lord Farquaad, he was a little disappointed that he never actually worked directly with Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, or Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy says the Shrek series is among his best works. Mike Myers was in New York City when they realized that the line "What are you doing in my swamp?!" had never been read. So producer Jeffrey Katzenberg flew to New York City and had Myers read the line in the back of a limo. "Shrek" means "monster" in Yiddish, and is derived from the German word "Schreck", which means "terror" or "fright". Computer animation production started on the project on October 31, 1996, and took more than four and a half years to complete. In an interview once Eddie Murphy joked that the movie Shrek, and his character Donkey, became so popular that if he had died the year the movie was released, newspapers would have probably used a picture of Donkey instead of Eddie Murphy. Cameron Diaz, having undergone Kung Fu training during the making of Charlie's Angels (2000), became very physical when recording her kung fu moves for Fiona's fight with Robin Hood and his Merry Men, and at times even broke out into Cantonese. Kathleen Freeman's final feature movie before her death shortly four months later. During the "Ogres are like onions" scene, the sunflowers in the background are facing the sun, which is actually what sunflowers naturally do. This is the only Shrek film where the main cast members' names are shown at the beginning instead of the end. After rescuing Fiona, Shrek sarcastically asks her if she is expecting Prince Charming. This foreshadows the second and third films of the series as Charming serves as a main villain in those films. After Mike Myers completed his dialogue in his voice and Shrek's animation was being completed, Myers decided he wanted to give Shrek a Scottish accent. "Once I saw the whole picture, I saw I needed to dig even deeper. And in having Shrek be Scottish, I was able to tap into a certain energy." When his mother, who is from Liverpool, read him books like Babar or Curious George she often gave British dialects to the characters. "It was a happy memory of my childhood, and in Scottish, I was able to connect to that." When Mike Myers begged to be allowed to redo Shrek's voice, Jeffrey Katzenberg and his partner Steven Spielberg agreed after hearing a demo, although the decision required the ogre to be reanimated from scratch. "That incident cost us about $5 million," said Katzenberg. "But it's Mike's total creation, and honestly, it made the movie so much better." In the scene where everyone is lining up with their magical creatures for sale, the woman who has Donkey is voiced by Kathleen Freeman. At one point she says "No! No!". This is said the same in the 1980 film Blues Brothers where she plays a nun, and Jake offers to get her money to save the orphanage and she says "No! No! I will not take your..." Farquaad sending Shrek to save Fiona for him to get his swamp back could be a parody of the Wizard of Oz, as Oz would only grant Dorothy and her friend's wishes by killing the Witch of the West. Unlike the Wizard, Farquaad was honest as he got the swamp cleared for Shrek as agreed, although he threatened to change his mind. Farquaad's executioner is seen breaking a mirror. According to a famous superstition breaking a mirror supposedly causes seven years of bad luck. Farquaad's tourney has strange events such as horse wrestling and a drinking contest. The knight that gives Donkey a mean stare is the same one that tried to capture him at the beginning. Cameron Diaz has said that Princess Fiona's romantic/practical nature was more like her sister rather than herself. Some viewers have complained that Robin Hood was English and should not speak with a French accent. It should be noted that in the film he is always referred to as "Monsieur Hood" and never as Robin. When the fairytale creatures arrive at Shrek's swamp, you can see Papa Bear comforting Baby Bear at a fire... later in Lord Farquaad's castle, as he watches Fiona on the mirror you see Mama Bear as a rug, skinned and laying on the floor. Awesome reaction of my favorite Shrek movie!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
I watch this movie anytime I’m sick. Such a good movie!
17:48 One of the same songs and the same singer at the end credits of 'One Piece Film: Z'.
35:22 ''If you want to be alone all you have to do is ask, ok?'' yet Donkey doesn't listen and doesn't leave when in Shrek 2 Shrek very clearly says that he and Fiona just got married and they want to be alone lol
*OH GOD HERE WE GO AGAIN* 😱😭💀
Listen, when you two watch Shrek 2. Keep skip to the end credits. You'll love that scene!
& Now for the million dollar question every DreamWorks animation fan has been anticipated to be asking: WILL There be a Shrek 5?!
Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me
the beginning of an amazing franchise, y'all will definitely like the 3 sequels to it
