Speaking to reporters on Thursday (Oct 12), Mr Shanmugam added that Singapore condemns all acts of terrorism and wanton violence, and that citizens must not let external events affect the internal situation within Singapore.

Shanmugam is correct. SG is close to Israel that helped SG so much when it was setting up National Service. SG does not want to offend Malaysia & Indonesia that support Palestine. So, basically turn a blind eye to oppression and genocide. 2 things may happen if you ignore this atrocity: 1) Singaporeans sympathetic to Palestine may choose to act against the Singapore government for its passivity and perceived support for the genocide. 2) Terrorist groups in the region and worldwide may start to target Singapore as it is perceived to be a supporter of the genocide. Notice: the Hamas attack is roundly criticised as terrorism (which it is), but the terror attacks by Israel are not described as such. The plight of the Palestinians is described as if it is a natural disaster, a crime without a perpetrator. I do not expect any action from the government other than a denunciation of the genocide, but it will not do even this. It seems the grip on our throats by Israel and the West is too strong. So much for a first world nation.
