I tried Ruthless SSF hardcore last league. I remember the feeling of dropping a rare ring in act 1, then discovering it had 5 useful stats on it. Damn, that felt great! My most prized possession. My precious, if you will.
Yes, ruthless is for us, who remember how Diablo 2 was. Slower pace, challenges with even common bosses, when you often have to take time and brain to kill them... And when you drop something good as really good, you yell on whole house :D I get why not many people like ruth, is not easy to get over the start. But when you do, you start to see what there is and for which group of people was it made. Isn't that the PoE next good thing? There is something, for everyone.
My problem with ruthless is that I get the Kirac pass and getting all maps in Ruthless is way harder than in normal league so I just don't bother with ruthless. Finished the campaign twice in ruthless and it wasn't really much more difficult, just slower because of the lack of movement skill.
@@ponytoast1231 yeah, this was my problem with ruthless too, it was "harder" in a way that just brought tedium and boredom. If you make the enemies more mechanically challenging or nerf drop rates (like normal, not just remove support gems functionally from the game, but for any random one to drop and remind you of your best drop from the previous league type rarity...sure I WANT my drops to matter, but there's a LOOOONG way between the loot pinata and....nothing/ruthless). I hope POE2 walks that line like a tightroping master and I'll be hooked forever. If not, POE1 will likely be where I spend most my time.
Diablo 2 everyone ran around on trainered characters. I don't understand people's nostalgia blinders for that game.

I usually play 2 months of a league (sometimes the full duration like Crucible, Legion), but this league I got burnt out really quick, I haven't even booted up the game in more than 2 weeks.
I'll start a Ruthless character and see how far I can get. I'm thinking an attack only build since spells kinda cheat (they get way more damage from gem levels alone).
Gonna have to check PoB first and see how much Chris gutted the ascendancies (assuming I can even finish the lab lmao)
Good for you. I do exactly that each league, and Ruthless is just enjoyable. Don't feel bad if first a10 Kitava comes 20 hours in though :) It's just a journey

Your spells will do 0 DPS if you don't have item support, no need to worry about them being OP.

Necropolis is actually just good for ruthless tbh. I was in full rare gear after campaign
agree 100%, playing ruthless SC in a party with 2 other friends, was the most fun POE leveling experience ever (we died like 30 times each but were laughing and joking all the way). Ruthless is GOOD if you have the time for it.
Every dex character I had in ruthless was using the mark mastery that gives frenzy charges, and poachers mark. Damage, speed and recovery, can't beat it.
Welcome to the club! Personally I enjoy both normal mode and ruthless. The main thing about ruthless though, it's a lot more punishing if you make bad choices
Even though you don’t really mule. As a bow toon, you can use your starter gear to take 10 min to run through mud flats and get shrapnel ballista. And decoy totem. Decoy totem is CRUCIAL. Especially in the hard fights like gravicius, innocence and Kitava first time. A lot of people don’t realize that you can use decoy and shrapnel ballista together. You can cast decoy once, then two shrapnel ballistas next to it, and dodge mechanics, buff, or dps while mobs/bosses focus on your totems.

Ive been thinking about starting ssruthless next league, i usually pick a build and just plow through the campaign ignoring pretty much everything
SSFR is the only way I play. This is my second league and I learned so much more in ruthless than standard. I like the slower progression and item scarcity. Very strategic mode
I'm not a hardcore poe player, but I like this type of game way more then loot pinyatas where's there's an abundance of everything. It defeats the fun of finding good items. I still remember the unique items I found in D2 because it was rare. In PoE, my chest is full of them. So Ruthless to me is nice. It's harder, which I like too.
Idk what D2 version you're referring to, maybe classic D2 on launch. D2 nowadays is loot pinata.

Kind of funny to call it a loot pinyata when 99% of the loot is garbage. Most uniques in this game are useless except for possibly leveling a toon and drop off quickly, during a first run through I think I’d be generous saying avg 1 unique per act. (While in d2 it was a few per campaign, not that big of a difference)
And if you’re talking about making a build capable of end game content, just try a home brewed off meta build and tell me how easy it is to do 100% deli juiced t16 or Uber bosses. Most people aren’t capable of even reaching red maps.
Tldr if you cheese the game there’s an abundance, if you don’t it’s hard af.

Ruthless teaches you how imbalanced and easy bench league is. It's is so easy to go from acts to yellows on a 1 or 2 link. MF is actually important for progression (like in D2) and not just for end-game optimization which also makes map bosses never worth skipping. You're actually required to play into your character's ascendancy-archetype giving each class its niche which is different from the "can I build it on a PF/Deadeye?" approach in PoE1.
Ruthless has a lot of great things going for that make it unique and fun (and different from PoE1- not better - different). My only gripes -- I wish actual league mechanics were a little more available, respeccing is kind of a nightmare and crit is the most reliable way to scale damage. Something I wouldn't mind having is an Akara respec (from D2), say, after A10 Kitava or after quest pinnacles (for more challenge) would be nice.
Edit: My last grip: Muling for skill gems is not fun!

Ruthless SSF is like playing a new Diablo 2 for real. no zoomzoom everywhere and you don't get everything everywhere and stop caring about loot. since you have to take your time, you automaticly have to take in the game aswell. and ssf ruthless hardcore is a pain you never felt before.
Hopefully PoE2 has an improved melee experience.
I've heard a lot about melee experience issues - could you describe what's the problem with it? Never play melee, just curiousity

Tried ruthless and came to the conclusion that it that mode just wasnt for me. I think it is fine to have just like ssf but I do prefer more rich drop table from my monsters
Ruthless is awesome.. until maps. Map progression is insanely slow. That said, I still prefer to play Ruthless mode
