I watched the podcast and was one of the bored ppl who searched Astros home games from 2017. It is pretty bad especially in games where the stadium was pretty much empty whitch was most of the games. The broadcasters even mention that more fans should come to the ballpark because the team was playing well lol. I didn't even need to watch because tons of jomboy fans time stamped when it happens

As a fan, I believe only stripping them of their championship is good enough if they did in fact cheat. Especially during the playoffs.
Banning the manager, losing draft picks, or whatever else isn't good enough.
The only thing that will dissuade teams is to lose their championship and then some more things like lifetime bans and such.
Hinch should be banned for life for this and the players should get banned for at least a year for this in addition to losing their title and the benefits that came with it.

They didn’t get more wins than the Dodgers regular season, so the home field advantage was still the Dodgers. However with the Yankees, they had home field advantage, and both teams won every home game. That being said, if the Astros got more wins than the Yankees through cheating at home games (like any miraculous comebacks in late innings at home games) and the amount of wins attributed to that was higher than the difference of regular season wins, then yes, it may be safe to say the Astros didn’t deserve to be at the World Series. This is all assuming they didn’t cheat during the Postseason which is still unconfirmed. Yankees said they heard whistling but how is a batter going to pick up on and differentiate whistling in the first place during a loud postseason game? People will also try to say it was suspect how Kershaw game 1 got like 13 strikeouts and ended the game under 3 hours but Kershaw Game 5 was done in less than 5 innings giving up 4 runs which was at HOU. But everyone knows Kershaw is a historic choker whenever he pitches a second time in a single series (2019 NLDS, 2018 WS, 2017 WS, the list goes on).
Point is: I care more about whether or not the Astros cheated postseason than regular season unless regular season helped them win ALCS. I also care if they cheated after 2017 which is also unconfirmed

Totally agree! The Sox were caught using quite a complex setup compared to the Astros & I know alot of rules changed after (no apple watches, live video, or internet, allowed in dugouts etc) but I was thinking it's kinda similar enough we might get a clue to the penalty facing the Stro's if you knew what the Sox got. TBH i don't think it was very severe & the whole thing was kinda quiet compared to this fuss.
TBH I think we have to assume that they've been doing it since 2017 because I don't see them just stopping on their own after winning a WS cheating :o(

I don't understand anyone saying how that 2017 title should not be taken away...If I remember correctly that series vs Dodgers went 7 games and one game @houston required a comeback from Astros. I have been a lifelong Astros fan. No bigger than when they had Berkman, Oswalt, Lidge, Clemons and Pettite. Basically the age of the red jerseys. This is heartbreaking. I saw the Jamboy video and you can't defend it. This is a sad and disappointing day for Astros fans. Hinch needs to be fired and suspended.
This is what MLB should do
Strip all 2017 titles including WS title
Lose 1-5 round picks 4 years
Lose free agencies 4 years
Fine 2 million or as much as possible
I can add more but this seems like a good punishment. One thing is for sure the the Astros will be forever be the team who still has not won a WS title even if the don't get stripped of there 2017 WS title. Also I dont hate the Astros but I would be okay with these conditions if it were my team in this situation.

This is the problem with operating from emotions. I say this as a legacy Stros fan, this hurts and I want a THOROUGH investigation because I don’t think the Astros are the only team doing it. From what I’ve read, a player who then joined the team brought it over from his former team. Punish them accordingly, but equitably. Meaning, equal punishments for all teams doing it.
W P exactly. My first game was 87. If this goes away it is a win win for all other teams. Because they will avoid the resulting, league-wide investigation AND we get seen as the bad guys because “we got away with it.” Investigate it to the fullest, but follow the trail.

I mostly agree with you that Commissioner Rob Manfred should impose severe consequences on the Houston Astros organization and team if a thorough investigation does conclude they grossly cheated during the 2017, 2018 and 2019 regular and postseasons. However, if I were the Commissioner of Baseball, I most definitely would VOID all their championships: Division, League and the World Series for those seasons. The problem with not allowing the Astros to spend in free agency is the Players Association would never agree to that. By not allowing a team to spend in FA, you have effectively shrunk the size of the market for teams bidding on players, which in turn brings the overall value of the players themselves down. While sure the Astros would ultimately only sing a small handful of the available free agents, every single free agent would be effected by this, as there is one less potential bidder for their services, causing the demand for their service to go down, bringing down the value of their contact.
BS. Both the Red Sox and Yankees were actually fined by MLB just last year for stealing signs.

Think about this for a minute. The Astros used a garbage can, yes a garbage can to send the messages to their batters. Could they not have used something more sophisticated like an air horn for example? I also find it humorous that MLB could not decipher the code earlier. Manfred is a second coming of Selig.
You can also raise an eyebrow on pitching, Verlander was not this good when he was traded for from Detroit and now he is unhittable, Garrett Cole was not this good in Pittsburgh now he is a top pitcher in MLB, maybe they are using something to improve the grip and spin rate, these are also things you have to look into, key games in 2017 WS game 3 and 5, game 5 they came back against Kershaw maybe they used it then.
What about imposing a hard salary cap? Astros cannot spend more than the lowest-payroll team. This would require them to release either Verlander or Altuve, and they'd lose all of their stars in arbitration

This is a BIG DEAL. Worse than the Black Sox or Steroids. The 2017 WS was tainted and two AL Championship against the Yankees. Think about Springer and Altuve hitting bug time against Cy Young pitchers like it was BP. So many repercussions!! Barry Bonds would get 1,500 Homers under such circumstances... He couldn't have been happy about getting absolutely shelled in Houston in September in a game that the A's eventually lost 15-0. The crazy thing is that the A's came back and slaughtered the Astros 21-7, 5-3, and 3-2 to win three out of four. And in the 3-2 finale they beat Verlander to put an exclamation point on their series victory.

Many of Astros' home games from 2017 on the MLB youtube channel are getting timestamps. These would have been uploaded in 2017, years before the accusations. There's no video tampering.

Their punishment should be one of the following plus the *
1. Suspend the team for 2020
2. Strip the title from the team for 2017
3. Suspend the manager and GM for the 2020 season with no pay
*if they play for the 2020 season they need to have someone be in their dugout every home game to monitor them.

I agree with all of that except I highly doubt they'll take the title away. The whole having someone from MLB in the dugouts is also a good idea but should be implemented for every team not just Astros, you know other teams are doing it (or trying to) they just haven't been caught. MLB needs to make an example out of them for sure some type of suspension along with fines.

Great take. One of the better ones I’ve heard thus far. I love the idea of no draft picks and no free agents for three years. And I also love the idea to allow them to still trade: “Go ahead. If you want to deplete your farm system even greater than what it is already going to be, go for it.”

Yes! They way they went about doing it (using technology). It's different if a pitcher dips his pitches and the other teams or if the man on 2B sees then sign and tips the batter, that is part of the game.

2021: Astros can't resign FAs via QO, lose compensation picks to CHW, TB, NYY, CLE, LAD and BOS.
After '21, Astros pay a 5 million dollar fine over 10 years. Hinch and his henchmen get banned for life.
This team literally cheated it’s way to the highest stage in baseball to a World Series title. They deliberately went against the ethics and rules of the game and KNEW they were and still cheated. They had the audacity to accept something they did not earn. This is the biggest scandal in the history of Major League Baseball. If the biggest punishment is not issued to them then they won. It was worth it for them. Take away the World Series title they didn’t even earn in the first place and this will stop this problem from happening again.
