Blow at High Dough, 38 Years old, Courage, Locked in the trunk of a car, Grace too, fiddler's green, the list is long of songs you would enjoy. Long live the memory of Gord Downie and the Hip.
Yeah Fiddler’s Green is an excellent choice especially if you want your whole audience crying like babies for 4:26. It happens to me every damn time I hear it especially once I found out the inspiration ooooof that’s a tough one
@@trapperjakkThis is such a great story song. Wish I still had that email! I wrote a short story based on the song way back then. Love it.

No, that's how much they meant to Trudeau. This Canadian doesn't care for them at all, I get really tired hearing the hip referred to as Canada's band.
This was their first hit in the US. Some of us Yanks kept paying attention to this superb band that kept making iconic big hits in Canada where they became more than just a big band. They became the heart of Canadian rock. The lead singer died of brain cancer in 2016. He didn’t stop touring until he had to. Their last concert was broadcast live on CBC and I was privileged as a Yank to view it as being near Canada we got the CBC. He’s still missed. Try Courage.
It was their second big hit overall. Blow at High Dough was the first single off Up to Here and New Orleans is Sinking is the second. Three of the four singles off their debut album became iconic tracks (38 years being the third). Only Boots and Hearts faded away somewhat, although the biggest country music festival in eastern canada is named for that song.
The Hip as we call them here in Canada is iconic, they came to prominence when I was in university, and for most of us Canadians we all saw them live at a some sort of university event. Sadly Gord Downie passed away from brain cancer in 2017 but luck for his fans in Canada he was able to do a tour before he passed.

There’s a great documentary on The Hip called “Long Time Running” aptly named for one of their songs, it follows the band on their last tour which they embarked upon across Canada after Gord’s brain cancer diagnosis, unbelievable the strength it must have taken Gord to do that tour, he really was a man of the people. Rest in paradise Gord Downie, our Canadian poet 🇨🇦❤

TRAGICALLY HIP---Gord was an icon. The TH music was something we Canucks took such pride in. My husband moved from.Florida to Canada 7 years ago. We watched the final Kingston performance curled up on the couch a few weeks after he arrived.
Our two puppies are named after things we love...Frederick Douglas Mercury and Gordie "lil Buddy" Downie. One of their bigger songs. Check out the live "killerwhaletank" version. Lead singer Gord Downey(R.I.P.) tells a little story in the middle of the song. Same for when you get to their song Highway Girl.
Killer Whale Tank version is iconic. I remember CFNY playing that and just wondering wtf even is this story. It's weird and yet it's very, very Gordon Downie.
"The Hip" are one of my top 5 fav bands. saw them live in '91 opening for Eric Johnson at a bar in Harrisburg PA. I bought "Up to Here" and "Road Apples" the next day. I then saw them live 14 more times in the next 20 years. I feel lucky to have seen them in America because I saw them in small venues. In Canada they filled stadiums!
After Hurricane Katrina, Gord Downie told a nationwide radio audience in 2005 that the core message of the song is positive. It praises the spirit of a city that cannot be beaten and will certainly rise again.
New Orleans is Americas most cosmopolitan city by a mile. And there is a strong French Canadian influence running throughout Louisiana so this vibe totally makes sense. Love this track.✌️
@PorscheRacer14 100th meridian is southeast of Winnipeg. But you are half-right about the Louisiana Purchase, it also includes part of Alberta. From Waterton through medicine hat to Swift Current to Estevan -ish.
@@Qmocean It's just west of Brandon in reality. Since meridians run north-south, it can't be any direction but east or west; unless you are directly at one of the poles. In which case, if you're say at the north pole exactly, the only way is south.
@PorscheRacer14 no where did I say the meridian ran east west. I said it was east of Winnipeg. The only thing I said that ran west to east was the sections of Alberta n Saskatchewan that used to be part of Louisiana.
For me, Its how socially conscious Hip as ALWAYS been that makes them one of most relatable groups EVER. I mean, JUST LISTEN...to the lyrics in any given song and you'll see their hearts. IDC what country they were from TRUTH, is TRUTH. Great reaction.
"The Hip" they are a national treasure up here and will always be... You should try " Little Bones" or "Blow at High Dough" or "Highway Girl" among many others they have so many to choose from. Also you should check our Blue Rodeo another great band up here react to "Try" and I bet you will want more.
Ya know it bothers me to no end that they don't get it that there is so much great music from bands in Canada, sure they acknowledge that there is some but come on.... I love these guys and they really do try though.@@doreen684

@@LisaMarieD Now that I think of it, I was the same way about "couldn't click on it fast enough". Nothing inspires lightening-fast responses as a HIP song!
Thanks guys for giving the Hip another listen! Know Jay wasn’t all that thrilled with “ahead by a century” but knew he would like more of the really rocking stuff they do. We lost Gord Downey, lead singer / song writer for the Hip a few years ago, he was such a legend! In this song believe the Hip are the first band to refer to God as a woman. Listen to the lyrics “ I had my hands in the river feet up on the banks looked up to the Lord above and said Hey man thanks. Sometimes I feel so good I gotta scream She said Gordie baby, I know exactly what you mean, She said, I swear to God She said. Great song writing!
Thank you for revisiting The Hip. Ailing from Canada myself this is Rock Royalty for us Canucks. Sadly Gord Downie died a few years ago from a rain tumor. But his voice will echo for a long time 'cause it was so unique. He allso wrote and was a poet. His lyrics we're always interesting. We so miss him 😞

It's hard to describe how iconic this band is in Canada. You're gonna get blasted in the comments with song requests but I'll add my list too. Songs with the same 'vibe' as this one: At the Hundredth Meridian, Boots or Hearts, or Little Bones. Some more mellow but amazing options are Wheat Kings (based on the true story of a Canadian teen sentenced to prison for a murder he didn't commit), Long Time Running (one of my personal favourites), or Fiddler's Green. Would LOVE to hear more Hip on the channel please!
Yeah, great underrated band, good tunes for sure, I saw them open for Plant/Page in 1996, they just killed it, with Grace, Too an unreal hilight, they really had it going that night. Look for Grace, Too, a studio classic that is well worth seeing live as well, their entire set at Woodstock 99 is on You Tube. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
There’s an amazing live performance in which he starts by saying, “This is a song about our favorite nuclear submarine.” The performance sounds like a killer jam session. I love this band.
At a performance at Ontario Place Gord changes some of the lyrics. He actually sang "I had my hands in the toilet. My feet back up on the tank"!!! I guess ol' Gordie was bored that night. I have seen the Hip too many times to count. I even watched them 2 nights in a row at the Horseshoe on Queen St in Toronto. The best was at Masonic Temple on Yonge Street. We spent most of the evening just walking around on the mezzanine. "Killer whale tank...Killer whale tank".
I literally live 3 miles away from Canadian border in a small maine town, the drinking age in Canada is 19 so we would cross the border every weekend and go bar hopping. I was lucky enough to see them twice just as they were getting big, awesome band and good times.
Fantastic song and reaction. For some reason I had never heard them before and I love it. Great rockin' blues. I will be checking out their catalog. This is what I love about your channel. You give me a different perspective on the music of my life and introduce me to new music where I sometimes find gems like this.
Thanks. Just listened to Up To Here. Great album. Not a bad song on it. New Orleans Is Sinking is my favorite. It looks like that was the single because it was the only track with a video. Boots Or Hearts is amazing. Love the slide guitar. Glad you suggested their first two albums. I like to see how bands evolve. On to Road Apples next.@@thisistheyear99
Listened to Road Apples and Fully Completely now too. I have to say it my favorite of the three. New Orleans Is Sinking Is still my favorite song of theirs. At the Hundredth Meridian and Looking for A Place To Happen are my favorites from Fully Completely.@@thisistheyear99

Here’s one for Female Friday, hits the Canadian Rock genre as well. Lee Aaron!!! She had several hits in the 1980s and early 1990s, such as "Metal Queen", "Whatcha Do to My Body". Think you both will enjoy either 😄🇨🇦
I've seen her in concert at least 3 times... Last it's the "Metal Queen" of 🍁. Lee Aaron, Sass Jordan.. Two kick but ladies of the 80s/90s. LA. - Whatcha Do To My Body, Only Human, Hands On.. ❤All great choices (two rockin' songs, one power ballad) SJ - So Hard, Tell Somebody ❤
One of my fave Lee Aaron songs is one that isn't as well known -- "Powerline". For such a tiny woman (she's barely over 5 feet tall) she can seriously belt it out!
More Canadian acts to listen to: Sass Jordan (rock) - I Will Make You A Believer, If You're Going to Love Me; another from Alannah Myles - Love Is; Gino Vanelli - I Just Want to Stop (this would sometimes be played on r&b stations), Living Inside My Self.
I saw a quote I love on another channel of a guy listening to The Hip for the first time and the commenter said "Canada gave Rush to the world. The Tragically Hip we kept for ourselves."
Another amazing Canadian singer is Burton Cummings (lead singer/songwriter for the Guess Who). Should check out Stand Tall, Saved my Soul, I will play a Rhapsody. His voice is incredible!
I’m from California, and first heard The Hip in 1989/90. They were unique. It was REAL rock and roll. I was personally not happy with the over produced 80’s sounds popular at the time. They were refreshing, also lyrically they were as Amber mentioned, songs that told stories. Gord Downie is iconic. A true poet. I followed their career through the 90’s and then in 1998 I saw them live at The Fillmore in San Francisco. It was a life changing experience. It was a great place to see them, about 800 Canadians….and a handful from the U.S. These crazy Canucks were ELATED! They knew every lyric. The dancing was intense. The air guitars were a plenty. I became a massive fan after that. I saw them once more at The Fillmore in 2000. That full show is actually on UA-cam! I cried when Gord died. I can’t watch their final concert, broadcast live in Canada, without balling my eyes out. I own the Blu-Ray, which seems to be a collectors item now. Songs I would recommend are Blow at High Dough, their first single. It rocks. From that first record I would suggest 38 years old, it’s a fantastic true story. Also from that first LP, Boots or Hearts. It’s a deep tack that shows their diversity. Their follow up LP, Road Apples, has some of my very favorite songs, Twist My Arm is a strait up banger. Cordilia is not a single, but it’s a spectacular song. Lyrically it’s pure poetry. Little Bones has a great video and is a great rock/dance track. Their third record, Fully Completely was an attempt to break into America but it really didn’t happen. It was a big hit in Canada though. It actually was a very Canadian album lyrically. Gord Downie took full lyrical control on that record and never looked back. It has two of my favorite songs, Locked in the Trunk of a Car and Looking for a Olace to Happen. At the Hundredth Meridian shows Gord doing a rock/rap vocal. It’s iconic live. A few other favorites , So Hard Done By…great bass line and awesome lyrics. Springtime in Vienna is a top 5 fav of mine. A song and video that, for me, is a real standout is Poets. Talk about a great RIFF. That video captures Gord’s quirky genius perfectly. Okay rant over. I’m just happy you revisited this wonderful band. Thank you.
@@thisistheyear99 Those first two records, for me, are perfection. Yeah, I’ll never forget those live shows. I never saw a live performer so in the moment and intense. Also the whole band are tight as f@ck. Reminds me of a cross between The Stones and The Heartbreakers. Gord is kinda the Canadian Tom Petty.
@@abbynormal60 Yeah they were hard to beat live with Gord rocking it up front eh. Saw them about 7 or 8 times, but nothing like the end of the Up To Here tour when they were playing 4 or 5 off the Road Apples album and Get Back again, Crack My Spine, Just As Well and others.......in a bar no less. Will never forget it. Place was packed and they rocked that place so hard I missed 2 final exams, my graduating year, the next day 😂😂. Totally worth it and would do it again 😆🤘🏼
@@abbynormal60 I think Up To Here only started taking off towards the back end of the tour if I'm not mistaking. It's the Misty Moon concert, the one on UA-cam, except it was a couple days after. Same tour same show. Was so good. If you haven't seen that Misty Moon concert, check it out, it's wicked.
The lead singer (and song writer) Gord Downie , was compared to Bob Dylan by the NY Times. He can tell a story , believe me. “At the Hundredth Meridian” is another one similar to this song.
This is kind of surreal moment. After ALL these years, to see these guys getting some love out of the U.S. is a very strange feeling. They just never got over in the states. It never happened. It's like this band was behind the "iron curtain" as far as our American cousins were concerned. So they just hunkered down and played for us. For YEARS. Out of KINGSTON, Ontario ... halfway between Toronto and Montreal. And yep, this really was the song that put them on the map. These guys are like a window into the soul of Canada. Lots of very Canadian themes through the songs (easily missed if you're not from here), and just regular songs about love, life etc. We have more to offer ... Bands like SLOAN, OUR LADY PEACE, MOIST and more. All three there are 90s stuff from our very own grunge, post grunge (and more) scene. Big names up here in the great white north. Check out "Money City Maniacs" by SLOAN. Good place to start with them. Edit - just remembered BLUE RODEO. Our alt-country tour-de-force!
Great idea! What to start out with? I thought maybe the live version of "Lukey" where they're "making some noise" while bouncing all over with the huge crowd.........or.......the official video of "Mari Mac"?
WOW YOU GUYS IM IMPRESSED! I luv the hip. I’m a Canadian fan of Rob Squad. This song is awesome. Thanks for ur reaction to it. Music at Work is another good rocking song by them hint hint lol. Well done you guys. Luv ur channel God Bless
The Tragically Hip had a staring role in the soundtrack of my life. More than 30yrs, from their first album to their final goodbye. I feel their first 5 albums are their best.
Highway Girl by the Tragically Hip is also phenomenal! And Wheat Kings is a different vibe but based on true events and just unreal lyrics. It's meant for around a campfire on a lake on a full moon night. Gives me chills thinking of you guys really listening to it and understanding the lyrics. It's kind of am unofficial anthem up here
Awesome song. Love that you get a lot of bass pieces. I ran into you guy earlier today, and wow. I love your heartfelt reactions. Already listened to a pile of your posts, and yeah, this is the first time I've actually logged into YT in years.
Locked in the trunk of a car is another you’ll love. And for some good old 70s Canadian rock, try Trooper and “The boys in the bright white sports car”. So much fun and so good.
Saw them in 1989 at a college pub. They defiantly were popular with the crazy college crowd back then. I always though that live his vocals were even worse than studio. There is a song with reference to my home town called Born in the Water.
Love this one. You should give a listen to Fiddlers Green. For more Canadian gold, try Big Sugar, Digging a Hole, Turn the Lights On, or Streetheart Action.
@@rossmacintosh5652 Basement is about as Canadian as you can get, not city Canadian, but rural working Canadian. Big Sugar is an excellent band, seen them many times, even in very small venues, they always put on a great show.
FINALLY!! I have requested the Hip on multiple occasions, I hope you don't wait a year before you explore their rabbit hole again, when you do try 50 Mission Cap. It is a song dedicated to Toronto Maple Leaf hero Bill Barilko, who scored the Stanley Cup winning goal for Toronto then tragically died when his plane disappeared during a summer fishing trip. The lead singer of The Tragically Hip was the late Gord Downie who sadly passed away from cancer in 2017. MAPLE MONDAYS awaits you with enough fantastic Canadian artists to make you jump out of your seat. You must check out Nickelback and start with their first single Breathe. Peace and love to all from your friendly neighbor from the north... 🙏❤️😎🇨🇦
I've been waiting sooooo long for you to hear this song ,I believe it's there best ,and I know you would love it .thanks guys for playing our Canadian icons
My fav Tragically Hip song is 'My Music at Work'. I'd recommend the official video. It seems The Hip really understand how important some tunes can be to get some of us through our workday. In the video Gord's personality & creativity really comes through. Perfect song for a Rob Squad Reaction since listening to the tunes are Amber & Jay's work & passion.
I'm far from being a true Hip superfan, but I can easily off the top of my head list 30 songs that still get regular play on the local Classic Rock stations, which shows just how much respect they get up here. New Orleans Is Sinking, Little Bones, Courage, and Blow At High Dough are probably the best ones to use as an introduction to the band, but then once you start digging into their real "fan pleasers", the list just goes on and on.
At least a third of Canadians worldwide watched their final concert live. I watched it here in Australia. Due to Gord Downie's condition, it wasn't his best performance, but he put everything into it, and would still have put many to shame. Of course, it was less of a case of "entertain us", than the opportunity to be part of a communal experience saying goodbye to a band that meant a lot to us, and to support and thank Gord.
From the same album as this one is: "I'll Believe In You (Or I'll Be Leavin' You, Tonight)" is a lot of fun. "At the 100th Meridian" is killer. "Wheat Kings" is really good. There is quite the rabbit hole you can climb into.
I had to the good fortune to see them live 14 times ... mostly when they were coming up during the University and college tour phase ... LOVE THEM, Miss you Gord
I'm surprised you haven't done any Pablo Cruise! They were so good in the late 70s. Whatcha Gonna Do? and Love Will Find a Way are two songs you will fall in love with. Keep up the great content!
Still my favourite Hip song after all these years. The Hip have such a variety of tracks from heavy bluesy rock to more folky ballads, but the common thread is the amazing lyrical poetry of Gord Downie. If you liked this track, some more like it would be: BLOW AT HIGH DOUGH, LITTLE BONES, 50 MISSION CAP.
What a great guitar riff! What a cool chorus! Their final concert was aired on live TV across Canada in August of 2016. 11.7 million people watched it in a country of 36,1 million at the time (32.4% of the population). Gord Downy had brain cancer at that time, the same kind that Neil Peart had, and it affected his memory. So he had about five teleprompters giving him the lyrics while he sang. Watching the show, you wouldn't know he had memory issues or that he was dying. It was a fitting way to say farewell to a beloved Canadian band. Little Bones Courage Poets (so many more)
👍👍👍👍👍 J&A. The Tragically Hip's "Little Bones" totally Rocks!!! For their acoustic side they have "Wheat Kings" that tells the story of a young man that was falsely accused of a crime who was finally released after the real perp was caught. Another song you two might enjoy is "Poets" - great groove and guitar parts. 🎸😎
Lordy, such a great tune! Iconic here in Canada. Also recommend Little Bones, oh and 38 Years Old, Bobcaygeon and Wheat Kings are all inspired by true Canadian events/history.
The Hip never really got much reaction in the US, much like Rush. They were a somewhat eclectic band, known for including many Canadian cultural references in their songs. 50 Mission Cap, At the Hundredth Meridian and So Hard Done By would be good for you to check out. Also, funny that you mentioned Jom Morrison; if you listen to the versions of New Orleans Is Sinking and Highway Girl recorded live at the Roxy, you'll hear Gord go off on a story in the middle of the song and the band just runs with it in a similar way to what Morrison did with the Doors. To help you to understand how much of a cultural icon they were, you only need to know about their last concert. In 2015, Gord Downie was diagnosed with brain cancer. They set up a cross country tour which culminated in the final concert in Aug 2016 in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario which was simulcast live and in its entirety on tv and internet by CBC (our "national" broadcaster) for free. It was shown in bars and in theatres; people held watch parties; businesses closed early so people could watch. From a cultural perspective, the only event that I could compare it to would be the moon landing. And when Gord passed, it was almost a national day of mourning. That's the Tragically Hip that Canadians gush over. They were more than just music.
These guys are so so good. They sound loose but tight at the same time if that makes sense. You would like their songs Courage Grace, too Fully completely Wheat Kings Fireworks Bobcaygeon My music at work
So. Many. Great. Songs. We Canadians are very posessive of this band. They were absolutely epic live. Some of the tracks are hard for non-Canadians to get because they make a lot of cultural references, and straight up guitar rock isn't as popular as it once was, but they are for sure worth diving deeper. One of my favs is Nautical Disaster. The whole song is a big metaphor.
Even though it's been years since his death, am I the only one whose heart hurts when you see Gord Downie in a video? It's weird to love a song so much, but feel sad for the loss while enjoying it.

Hope you’re off for the long weekend, relax and put this crappy day behind you. Cheers from Alberta 🍻
Actually, our Canadian poet is Gordon Lightfoot. Gord Downie is much less talented.
@@richardc8795 ahhhh yes, you can't have more than one poet, I forgot the rules, you could have just skipped the comment instead of giving your opinion, everything is subjective. I personally don't care for Gordon Lightfoot, but I don't shit on others who do, cheers, its not that important, go touch some grass my dude
...and far and above the venerable Lightfoot is Joni Mitchell. She is at the centre of the global pantheon of poetic signer-songwriters. Her lyric-writing is brilliant beyond any of her peers. She is the queen, and no one even approaches the neighbourhood.@@richardc8795
@@richardc8795there are many poets in Canada. To say one is better or more important than another is an opinion. Both men have passed on so I think we should respect both artists and other peoples opinions.
@@briancrockett9880 And that’s your opinion. Mine still stands.
Gordon Lightfoot was our Canadian poet
More Hip please. Bobcaygeon is outstanding.
If I ever need a hip replacement I figure I can use a "The Hip" t-shirt and use fabric paint to write replacement...underneath.

So glad you gave them another listen. We love our Hip here in Canada
Really loved this song! Very Bluesy & Killer Guitar! Another Great Reaction, You Guys! :)
One of their bigger songs. Check out the live "killerwhaletank" version. Lead singer Gord Downey(R.I.P.) tells a little story in the middle of the song. Same for when you get to their song Highway Girl.
Wasnt that recorded at the whiskey a-go-go in LA?
@@Shamacanada live at the Roxy, May 1991.
😊
Yay! People with actual knowledge and taste! Nawlins sinkin(killer whale song) is literally my favorite song of all time!!
Holy cow this song is really good!! That guitar riff is INSANELY GREAT!!
Another great Canadian band is The Pursuit of Happiness, I would suggest listening to “I’m An Adult Now”
After Hurricane Katrina, Gord Downie told a nationwide radio audience in 2005 that the core message of the song is positive. It praises the spirit of a city that cannot be beaten and will certainly rise again.
As a Canadian can you please do "Blue Rodeo". One of Canada's best band!
New Orleans is Americas most cosmopolitan city by a mile. And there is a strong French Canadian influence running throughout Louisiana so this vibe totally makes sense. Love this track.✌️
Fun fact, the SW corner of Saskatchewan was part of the Louisiana Purchase , not too far from The Hundredth Meridian, "where the Great Plains begin".
@@PorscheRacer14for real? I'm Canadian and i didn't know that. Wow. Shame on me for not knowing that.
Oh, Canada. It's a beautiful country with a wide diversity and it seems to inspire poets to write great songs. Proud to live here.
"The Hip" they are a national treasure up here and will always be... You should try " Little Bones" or "Blow at High Dough" or "Highway Girl" among many others they have so many to choose from. Also you should check our Blue Rodeo another great band up here react to "Try" and I bet you will want more.
....or Blue Rodeo's "Til I am Myself"
Definitely Blue Roddo
Ya know it bothers me to no end that they don't get it that there is so much great music from bands in Canada, sure they acknowledge that there is some but come on.... I love these guys and they really do try though.@@doreen684
OMG I couldn't click on this fast enough!!! So glad you came back to The Hip. So many cool tunes! Little Bones, Courage, Blow at High Dough, It's a Good Life if you Don't Weaken and so many more!!! Gord was one of our best story tellers. Cheers from Canada.
Totally agree, but need to add "Bobcaygeon" to that list!
Cheers from a few kms away from Bobcaygeon.
@@CharCanuck14 yes, I do!!!
@@LisaMarieD Now that I think of it, I was the same way about "couldn't click on it fast enough". Nothing inspires lightening-fast responses as a HIP song!
Courage is about a friend of the band who took his own life. My wife went to school with Gord and knows a few of the members of the outfit.
"This is The Tragically Hip song we should have started with." This is The Tragically Hip song they should have played on SNL...

Tyvm for showing me this band, and hearing them play this song! They are a gem stone.❤❤❤
Locked In The Trunk Of A Car is my fav song.
Keep digging into The Hip. I am from Buffalo, NY and they're my favorite band ever. #RIPGord
So glad you got to this song, one of my favorites of all time, such a great track to put on at a house party.
Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Looked up to the Gord above and said ,hey man thanks!
There’s an amazing live performance in which he starts by saying, “This is a song about our favorite nuclear submarine.” The performance sounds like a killer jam session.
I love this band.
Please don't compare them to ZZ top...not even close
At a performance at Ontario Place Gord changes some of the lyrics. He actually sang "I had my hands in the toilet. My feet back up on the tank"!!! I guess ol' Gordie was bored that night. I have seen the Hip too many times to count. I even watched them 2 nights in a row at the Horseshoe on Queen St in Toronto. The best was at Masonic Temple on Yonge Street. We spent most of the evening just walking around on the mezzanine. "Killer whale tank...Killer whale tank".
He felt his music right from his soul, and it traveled up from his toes and out his mouth. Amazing talent. So much soul.
The Tragically Hip are one of the bands that are worth reacting to live versions of their songs
Can you imagine Jay's face when Gord is describing a killer whale ripping his arm off? 😂

I literally live 3 miles away from Canadian border in a small maine town, the drinking age in Canada is 19 so we would cross the border every weekend and go bar hopping. I was lucky enough to see them twice just as they were getting big, awesome band and good times.
Haha I might have checked your ID and stamped your hand back then!
Fantastic song and reaction. For some reason I had never heard them before and I love it. Great rockin' blues. I will be checking out their catalog. This is what I love about your channel. You give me a different perspective on the music of my life and introduce me to new music where I sometimes find gems like this.
Check out the albums "Up To Here" and "Road Apples" by them if you like this one. Not a bad song between the 2 albums. Enjoy 🤘🏼

❤All great choices (two rockin' songs, one power ballad)
SJ - So Hard, Tell Somebody ❤
I'm partial to "Some Girls Do", myself.
Another Canadian for female Fridays is the Don't It Make Ya Feel by the the Headpins
Love Sass. Add High Road Easy too.
Yes ! Gino Vannelli for sure - I Just Wanna Stop 👍

Awesome choice guys! Love the Hip. Glad that you enjoyed it
Another amazing Canadian singer is Burton Cummings (lead singer/songwriter for the Guess Who).
Should check out Stand Tall, Saved my Soul, I will play a Rhapsody. His voice is incredible!
This song and "Blow at High Dough" is where most of us started with the Hip. Love this band, and have seen them live several times.
Thank you.
Great story, thanks for sharing! Been a fan since the beginning. Road Apples is such a banger of an album. Never gets old. Cheers ✌🏻

As a Canadian who loves the Hip, I really enjoyed your reactions. Also your comparison to the Doors, another one of my favs.
You guys are real ones.
Saw them in concert many years ago. The energy from the band was incredible!
Congratulations! You just opened up a new rabbit hole! These guys have a great catalog to dig into.
They did Place In The Sun last year.
Whoa.
You are reacting to the Hip?
Wow.
Those guys played rock n roll the way it ought to be.
Little Bones
Courage
Poets
(so many more)
You two brought me so much joy watching you enjoy our Canadian Treasure.

So. Many. Great.
Love that you cover so many great Canadian bands
Even though it's been years since his death, am I the only one whose heart hurts when you see Gord Downie in a video? It's weird to love a song so much, but feel sad for the loss while enjoying it.
