    How to increase the Tello drone's range and improve video quality using a cheap Mi WiFi repeater amplifier. *Find the Tello here* amzn.to/2JlgdKT *Find the Mi repeater/amplifier here* goo.gl/Ax9DeT or *here on Amazon* amzn.to/2GfB7cE . You'll also need a *USB power source to power it* goo.gl/QUFEhw
    And *here is how to setup the repeater* goo.gl/F3HA8S

      Your mobile / cell phone has a battery in it. This can power the Mi repeater if you have the correct adapter for your type of phone, so you don't need a power bank as well.
      Thanks for all your videos btw.

      If you decided to use your phone just for FPV, and have the optional controller for the Tello, will this arrangement with the repeater still work?

    Big shout out to all the Negative Nancy's in the comment section today.
    Special attention paid to the gaming griper and the guy who puts out one video a year. They both seem to need the recognition since they've invested so much time and effort into returning and responding over the past few hours. No doubt they're going to see this, since they obviously have made this there life's work today.

    The range issue with the Tello is annoying. However your information fixes that! A great little drone for the price and one which anyone can fly. Thanks for this useful video. I will be buying both items of the recommended equipment. Oh and I like the idea of not being right next to the repeater. Still not too keen on having a microwave transmitter next to my head. Your advice on placing the repeater some distance away is good.

    Since 2005 it's been pretty well known that wind affects wifi, so you'd probably get a much better result on a non-windy day, I've also found that using a controller also gets a better result because you're not covering your phone's antenna, there's also a great android application made by someone called aTello which gives a much better video feed than the one ryze made....

    Suggest you try the repeater and put it half way between you and the drone. It is a repeater as others have said, not a booster (although it clearly does boost the signal over the original setup without it).

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  5 років тому

      Yes that would help if you wish to get the greatest range possible. But as noted, the repeater also has a built-in amplifier to boost the signal. For simplicity, you can just pop the repeater in your pocket to boost the signal to improve the video reception as seen here ua-cam.com/video/0CLcbU90njE/v-deo.html

      Like he many times mentioned, the extender has a higher power input than the wi-fi module in your cell resulting in a higher output of signal meaning that the signal indeed using a dedicated WiFi module will travel greatly bigger distances.

    Only problem is if you like to use a real controller (bluetooth) with this it will effect the range. Only solution I've found is a third party flight app Atello Pilot with the Gamesir G3S controller from my Yuneec Breeze connected through an OTG cable. (Do not turn the controller on, which will force it to connect through OTG.) I wish Ryze would come out with a Tello 2 which included a real controller and an SD Card in the camera.

    So whats the power bank you use to plug the repeater into? They both have to be plugged into the drone. all I see is solar power banks.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  5 років тому

      I was using a solar power bank, but other phone power banks will work also. The repeater requires a power source. I used the power bank for this source. The power bank is not needed to power the drone. However, you can also use the power bank to recharge the drone's battery between flights.

    Can the Xiaomi Mi Repeater be powered by an OTG connector? I'm thinking that having the phone attached to an Xbox controller, and then the repeater plugged into the phone for a power source would make a neat little setup.
    Although, as others have said, for best signal strength you'd ideally have the repeater halfway between you and the drone, but this isn't really practical.

    Quadricopter 101 may I please ask you a question? Today I was flying my drone this particular drone with an X 9p and it was flying perfectly fine about 10 meters above me when all of a sudden it started to go straight up without any stick input. Of course I pulled the stick down but it had no effect and then it went off to the right and slammed into a tree. I have no idea what would have caused this it was flying perfectly before this and it was calibrated before the flight. It was like somebody else had control of the Drone. After that I flew my Mavic mini for the rest of the afternoon and I had zero problems with that drone. If you've ever heard of anything like this I would really appreciate your input. Thank you

      That sounds like return to home was activated. On return to home, the drone first climbs to about 20 meters, then flies back and lands where it took off from. If there's an object higher than 20 meters along that flight, it may hit it. Return to home can be activated by hitting the return button on the controller, if signal is lost from the controller, or if the battery power is getting low. That being said, I had issues with the return to home feature of the X9 Heron dronen ua-cam.com/video/ZYwRlodmM90/v-deo.html

    I just got mine today in fact. I've got several drones, such as the Parrot AR Drone 2.0, for which another drone operator recommended this device.
    I'm presuming that you have to set up each time you change drones, correct?
    Having trouble doing initial setup. Should I be connected to a drone Wi-Fi first, before activating device? Mi Home app can't see the repeater even though its powered on and within a couple of feet.

    Hey, is there anyone who's thinking about upgrading the antenna in the transmitter? And also the antennas in F11 as there is a great improvement potential here ?

    ive succesfully set it up since the wifi repeater is showing blue color. but once i open the APP it doesnt recognize the drone. pls help

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  5 років тому

      After you get the blue light, then you'll need to connect your phone to the repeater in your phone's WiFi settings. You should notice two Tello WiFi signals in your phone's WiFi settings. The signal that you should connect with your phone is the one with "Plus" at the end of its name. Please watch the following video for help ua-cam.com/video/nvK68qrv33U/v-deo.html

    Nice, just bought the Tello today, will pick up one of these repeaters. Would it extend the range if you put the repeater in the middle of the field?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 років тому

      Yes it would extend its range the distance that you place it away from your self. That depends if you keep flying along a line between yourself and past the repeater.

      Not with this drone. This drone uses 2.4Ghz WiFi only.

    I am going to try to use a Ubiquiti Nanostation for mine, I've tried but I guess I had bad settings and I couldn't get it to work. If it does it will probably like .75-1.3km range or so, if you have someone to point the antenna while you fly, I only get like 30 meters in my neighborhood, any further than just across the street and it gets bad :(

    & use 2 repeaters
    I hope they will not be confusing

  • @rockstaradventures1

    so your link takes us to a web site with different power source to power the wifi stick, what particular model were you using with the repeater?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  5 років тому

      Mine is no longer in production. But just about any portable phone power bank with USB port will work with this. The problem with ordering one from China is that you'll likely need to install rechargeable batteries into the bank as China can no longer ship power banks to the USA with batteries installed. If you live in the USA, would instead recommend purchasing a power bank from Amazon instead. Here's one that should work well with the repeater amzn.to/2Rquga0

    Hey there sir, what is the "Mobizen" app you are referring to on accident? 1:41 I couldn't find a recording application called "Mobizen" or any other spelling of it in the App Store? Am I spelling it incorrectly? I know you weren't meaning to bring it up but now you got us curious. :) Thanks for any help!!

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  4 роки тому

      It's an Android app. There may not be an iOS version for it as it may not be needed. Don't iPhones already have a built-in capability for screen video recording? Android phones do not.

    I bought a Ryze Tello to use on holiday for family photos and recording days out etc. The Tello appeared to tick all the boxes in terms of being portable, affordable, reasonable resolution and stable. And indeed it did, if you used it INDOORS ONLY.
    My experience is that it is terrible in anything other than a completely still day. It simply can’t cope with even mild breezes. Even then it sits angled into the wind making pics look like you’ve been on the Sangria too long. I tried it on 4 separate calm days but it’s just not up to outdoor flight rendering it fairly pointless I’m afraid.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 років тому

      Hmmm, that's not my experience. It does very well in the wind for me. ua-cam.com/video/0CLcbU90njE/v-deo.html
      But have you updated the drone's firmware using the app? If not, it's very important to do such.

    Maybe give it another try with the TelloFpv app. That allows wired PS3/4 controllers, settings for expo, rate, deadzone. Much better control. Also has configurable splitscreen VR FPV, 360 pano pictures, and even a working RTH. It certainly cooler than ryze app. The channel "Skypilot" made review, check it out.
    BTW: Range record for Tello with a modded extender is at 728m
