    I am once again enthralled by the inspirational media selection. Every video has me feeling like a kobold that just found a sack of gems; time to take these treasures back to my hovel and obsess over them for a while! I like your portrayal of Yagno and think the tidbit of how he would superficially engage the PCs about religion was especially golden. Thank you for another excellent video!

    This one is super creepy! The Hunger Artists are so morbid and unsettling.

      Indeed! Say, did you know that Kafka's original story--gruesome though it is--is actually based on a pun? (The pun works the same in English and the original German.) Look at the very end of the story, specifically at what the titular Hunger Artist says there!
      Thanks for watching and commenting! Any suggestions on which Domain to visit next? Best wishes, and cheers!

    A part of me could've invluded the dark lord being a boss battle. Maybe PCs had the option of giving him a fake idol that Reca used and used the real one to escape attaching the lenese to it. Maybe he could transform or use the Living Wall like a meaty mech as a blessing of the bestial god, may ways to tweak this imo

    • @phdnd-drbowers
      @phdnd-drbowers  6 місяців тому

      Yes, for sure! You could easily adjust this adventure so that the PCs find something powerful in the swine-things' camp, and then return to take the fight to Yagno. They could also take something, as you suggest, from Rega to that effect!
      Thanks very much for this observation, and thanks as always for watching and commenting! Best wishes, and cheers!

      Oh that, sounds awesome. Wish I could be a fly on the wall for that one!
      Mike Shea did a video about running I6 with Shadowdark, not long ago. He said it ran really well! Based on that, I can see it also working well with Mörk Borg and other "brutal" OSR-style games. I'll gladly look into it! Thanks very much for the suggestion! Best wishes, and cheers!

      Ah, thank you for the suggestion! Noted, and on the list! I was actually thinking about how to turn "Glory of the Giants" into an adventure about more gothic monsters--vampires, maybe? Just a thought, though; when I do another campaign reflavor, I'll make sure it's viable!

    As a big body horror fan and lover of mutated beastfolk type stuff I personally don’t like reducing the afflicted to only swine mutants rather than a whole hodgepodge of strange hybrids. But that’s just my opinion, still a fun adventure.

    • @phdnd-drbowers
      @phdnd-drbowers  7 місяців тому +3

      By all means, let a thousand flowers bloom! Please write your own adventure, which crucially incorporates the older editions' humanoids; I'd love to read it!
      I am a lover of body horror as well! I also love cosmic horror, and wanted to draw upon Hodgson's genius. If you're worried about a lack of variation among swine-things, I think my Act 3 is a counterexample!

    Yagno has always been a tough one for me. I never really knew what to do with him so I always kinda strayed away from him. Consequently I never ran circle of darkness.

    • @phdnd-drbowers
      @phdnd-drbowers  6 місяців тому

      It's an interesting adventure, but was never a favorite. It could be that the Domain is difficult to flavor as something that fit the old Ravenloft vibe; it could also be that the adventure's writers tried likening Yagno's regime to societies from contemporary history, in a way that seemed distracting and irrelevant (at least to me). As a result, I only took a very general outline of that adventure's contents for this video!
      Thanks once again for watching and commenting; best wishes, and cheers!

    Is there a better video game for Ravenloft fans than Darkest Dungeon? This is a great continuation of that imagery that would really upset my players.

    • @phdnd-drbowers
      @phdnd-drbowers  6 місяців тому

      It's surely one of the best for dark fantasy and cosmic horror, and a personal favorite, too! (I haven't yet played the second one, unfortunately...)
      I have to confess, it was delightful using sprites from Darkest Dungeon to animate this video!
      I suppose some other good Ravenloft-y video games might include Dredge, Carrion, Fear and Hunger, Lakeview Cabin Collection, Slay the Princess, Pony Island, and Iron Lung? Maybe also Stories Untold? What do you think?

    Another great video while I'm in between seeing patients. I would love if you covered Dominia and the horrible history of insane asylums and the domain of Timor and the horror of caves and being trapped beneath the earth or being swallowed up by the earth.

      Ah, yes, Timor is indeed a favorite! It looks like it got folded into Zherisia in 5e, according to the description in Van Richten's Guide. Good suggestion!
      I've already done an adventure that plays with the idea of mental health and delusions (Bluetspur), and it's tricky to write such adventures, but you're right that there's a lot of potential horror in that Domain, which could make it worth re-examining. I'll surely get to it; it will be interesting, after all, to talk about a vampire who drinks brain fluid!

      @@phdnd-drbowers pew, good question. I would suggest Vampire 5th Eddition, but that is just because I started playing WoD with that, but some fans say that V20 is way better. I know it is more expansive, having certain skill trees be individual, rather than the condensed powers in V5, as well as having more lore, simply by running longer.
      But there is also Hunter the reconing (humans hunting supernatural monsters), wraith the oblivion (more personal and tales about the afterlife), werewolf the apocalypse (being a monster and trying to save nature from capitalism, just a small joke) and mage the assention(wizard war).
      To be honest they not allways mix great together, because there is a certain oneupmanship in there, where vampires are monsters towasds humans, werewolfs rip apart vampires, werewolfs run from mages and mages arejust laughed at by demons(yeah, demons, fea and mummies also exists, it gets messy and the books didn't age to well).
      But for an introduction into the game, watch LA by Night and for the lore, propably start with Vampire, that gives you most of the basics

      @@derkrischa3720Ah excellent, thank you! This is helpful. I recently enjoyed William SRD's video about Wraith, and that sounds like a really fun, philosophical game. I also found Werewolf to be an appealing game in terms of its themes, including the ones you mentioned! But yeah, it does sound like the "basic" game is one of the Vampire ones, with others being variations on it. I'll keep looking into them and maybe get to making a video or some adventures! (I already have a Call of Cthulhu adventure in the works...)
