Unfortunately, my barn were I lease has terrible padocks. They don't clean the poop, it's so muddy, and they are very small, so most of the time, my poor horse has to stand in it for 8 hours a day. She is sadly prone to getting lame and having thrush. Last year, it was so bad, it started deteriorating her foot. Glad I was there to straighten that out, even though, I know the rest of the horses have to deal with it. :(
How can we recognize and odor that we have never smelled before? What does thrush smell like? how is it different from any other smell in a horses hoof? like abscess drainage or some other kind of infection.
I just smelled it today and can describe it sort of as sour milk. Or a fridge of food gone bad. Mixed with feet. It’s VERY pungent and very distinct and very hard to describe 😂
I've never smelled thrush before either, but when picking my rental horse's hooves I recognised the strong, disgusting smell as something that is not normal. Smells a bit like fresh, wet horse poop, but if there's none of that in the vicinity, then it's probably thrush. You will notice the smell when you smell it, it's so strong and foul that it will stand out as abnormal.
.. fuck.. and how many days dose it takes for it to heal? My baby 1 year old shatlndXwelsh yearling.. found out today ... i have so much mud hre how do i can keep his back left hoof clean ?
Lose the music, it is very distracting and its hard to concentrate on what you are saying. And Thrush is Not just a bacterial infection, it is a combo of fungal and bacterial.
Equine thrush is commonly caused by bacteria (fusobactrium necrophorum) and only very occasionally fungal. Thrush in humans is mostly fungal (candida albicans).
appreciate the info, thankyou. If the rock n roll music was a little softer in the background, that might make the video even better!?

If you don't report animal abuse, you are no better than who you pay to treat your animal and others that way.
move your horse!
