This is year I bought Mandevillas for the first time, as was recommended to me by someone after my hard-luck story of trying to deal with hibiscus! I didn't know anything about them previously but I'm glad I happened upon your channel because sellers are representing mandevilla and dipladenia as the same plant. Thanks for the info, I first saw your video on Philo Deja Vu vs Xanadu, checked out your channel and you are very knowledgeable! New subscriber! I live in BC Interior, so I'm glad to follow someone so close to home :)

Sorry for just seeing your reply. So of course I threw out the labels they came from but I think the one labeled Diplo is doing better for me but I'm not sure which one it is actually. One is just surviving it would seem while the other is flowering nicely and trailing all over the place.

Great video!! Lots of excellent information.
I'm new to "gardening" anything but I saw this beautiful plant this summer and had to have one.
Mine is a hanging basket. It's mid- October now in the PNW (Pacific Northwest). No freezing temps yet....but we'll get some in a bit. I'm ready to cut this plant back (in it's basket) and winterize. I know how to cut....but what is the best way winterize the entire basket? Or is that even a thing?
I also want to root some of the cuttings. I know how to do that too (in potting soil)...but is it too late in the season to do that? I was going to remove the buds (flowers from the 6in cuttings, remove about 2in of leaves from the bottom and stick the cutting into potting soil in a small container. Probably 4 to a container. The container goes into a sealed zip loc bag, for several weeks (think greenhouse) with perodic openings for fresh air & a little moisture. I just don't know if the cuttings should be in a light sunny area....or can they do their thing in my basement??? Any advice is appreciated . MANY thanx!!

You really seem to know your stuff! I've grown these for years all the way up here in southern Ohio, USA. It's a little bit of a hassle having to bring them in when it drops below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, butt well worth it!

Thank you for the endepth information on this plant! I planted 3 of these beauties and they have all died. I couldn't really figure out why, but I think maybe its the fact that my neighbor foolishly sprays glyphosate to kill his weeds. I did plant them in the ground near the fence line he sprays, so possibly its the herbicide in the soil? I did water them everyday because its been a very hot summer here in the southern mountains of California. So maybe they got overwatered? But they were drooping so I figured they needed water, I also fertilized them. Just never seen a plant die off so soon after being planted.

Hi Max, I'm a novice gardener with a love of hummingbirds and diverse insects. I purchased two dipladenia plants and want to plant them in our yard. Our growing zone is 7-9 with clay soil. My question: do you recommend digging and filling with sandy soil? Or would you recommend something else.
Thank you so much for the video! 😊

Oh it's gorgeous! 10/10 recommend. You can either prune it back to almost soil level and mulch with about 2 inches of fresh mulch, put it in a container and bring the container indoors, or you can take lots of cuttings ;)) yo that's a fantastic idea!!! I've got to get a new sd card for my camera first though, no more video room :/

This has been sooo helpful ! I am new to planting these. I was wondering, I bought 12 of these from Lowe's, costa farms brand, and I planted them in pots (3 per pot) the buds all but fell off, and some leaves did also;some of the buds were big and had turned brown . Some of them were very dry - typical garden center issue - Was wondering if you think these will start blooming soon, or I should just get new plants? Thank you for any help !

Sooo my mandivilla, was blooming gorgeously! Lots of white blooms, then I gave it some 10-10-10 plant food, fed it then about a week later, dropped all its blooms,
And started vining clime crazy! I made a trellis for it. Its about 6 feet high with ONE bloom… no yellowing or wilting, looks healthy just less blooms. What’s up with it!?

    • @maxzytaruk8558
      @maxzytaruk8558 2 роки тому

Heyyo! My bad for being slow with comments, im thinking your plant is too vegetative, too much nitrogen. Maybe try using a fertilizer with a low first number, like a 10-20-20, or holding off on fertilizer altogether for a while. The plant is likely being over-pampered and putting all it's energy into producing vines because it's too comfortable

    • @maxzytaruk8558

Heyyo! So I usually get a bag of perlite and mix it with humus rich compost that I make from my old potato plants. I also add about a third of cocoa choir (I buy it in compressed blocks) for one pot I'd say it's a cup perlite, a cup cocoa choir and 2 cups of compost, depending on the size of the pot :)) I hope that helps

Hey Deb! Depends on whar you want from the plant and how late it is in the season where you live. If theyre bothering you, trimming them flush with the nesrest leaf won't hurt the plant, snd it might actuslly coax the plant into growing fuller and quickly. It just means that your plant might not trail as much. Current research suggests that trimming them off might actually make them bloom more:))

Assuming you're talking in Fahrenheit haha, that might be a little bit too hot. I'd keep them in a shady spot, I think 100 f is close to 37 C, we had a couple of days last summer hit the mid 40s C, so 113 F. And they did not like it at all, lots of watering and a bit of leaf loss.
