DIY Fireplace in a Kmart Tent

- I make a fireplace and put it in a cheap Kmart tent to trial ‘hot tent’ camping in Australia’s Snowy Mountains.
This was an experiment to see if it’s worth doing with a more expensive fire resistant tent. I definitely do not recommend using a cheap polyester tent like this because there is a much greater fire risk.
I monitored the fire closely at all time and kept the flames low to minimise the risk.

Bought an oztent and thought I’d try a night at Thredbo diggings for the first trip at the end of May a few years back.
-10°C that night on a uninsulated, self inflating mat and a cheap sleeping bag 🥴
Could’ve done with that stove.
Sounds like one cold night mate… glad you made it out
Crazy how much cheaper you can make something with a bit of know how. loved the product.
Been looking at doing something like this with army tent you can get from aussie disposals to use as a base camp.
Good video, great creativity in use of materials.
Yeah. A green army canvas tent would be great.
Great video, great ingenuity, you made it look so simple. Cant wait for your next video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks heaps Daniel.
Id love to try this one out! Very nice idea 🤩 Thank you!
For the roof penetration use cheap allot oven trays one on inside and one outside silicon and rivet together with the material inbetween like a gasket and use a silicon “deck tight “ riveted and siliconed on outside , that will water proof it better than what you did and shouldn’t cost more than $20.00
2 trays from salvos $2.00 each
1 tube silicon $5.00
1 decktight $10.00 ,sorry I just checked the price and they are now $20.00
So $27/30.00
Great idea
Great experiment and results sound sensational. Nice one.
Thank you! Cheers!
I reckon the bigger firebox is good. Better than the smaller portable ones. Not so much to get it hotter, but to burn a bigger peice for longer. A CO2 sensor might be a good addition.
That’s cool man. Thanks for the demo
What a wicked project might have to try making one of the fire pits, maybe without the tent part though 😅
Yeah. I need to build a hut to go with the fireplace😂
That's quite the centrepiece!
Great stuff Mike!!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Great idea!
Might have to try that with the single post canvas bus tent i got from the tip for free
Did you get those stainless steel pegs off ebay? I think i got the exact same type lol. awesome vid, i think ill give this a try.
I think they’re Aldi
It’s called a hot tent. Very common in yanky land. Would love to have one.
Somehow I think you knew that would be a bad idea. We were all curious so had to do it. Glad it was you. Well done Mike.
Hello from Assam India 🇮🇳
Ha ha that fire was cracking.
Using aluminum rivets to stove?
I just used what I had lying around.
@@OutbackMike Ok, no problem. You'll fix it later.
Tuyệt vời ❤❤❤🎉
possum bro just wanted to hang out
Ok next video go to Jervis bay and take a selfie then show the picture to your friends and say that you went on a holiday to the Maldives.
Wouldn’t a diesel heater be easier
Yeah but that's not the point
Yep😂
