- Hey everyone, in today's video I share with you my experience with the Saalt menstrual cup. Let's just say that it was a less than positive experience. Let me know if you use a cup and what it has been like for you.

I feel like every girl should try the cup for at least three periods before saying they hate it. It took me a few months to actually figure out how to make it work for my body/ learning how to insert it correctly to make it comfortable. Now I will never go back. It just takes practice and getting to know your own body. It will literally change your life once you get used to it. Also if you're visibly nervous like she was... Maybe just don't try it. Because if you're tense it will not help anything. You need to be relaxed to insert it correctly.
I'm definitely going to try it again, but I gotta work up the nerve to!
@@RACHELKAPPIUS you got this! I definitely understand why it can be kinda stressful haha. It's a trial and error kinda thing :) and to each their own of course! If you give it a try for another few months and still decide it's not for you, that's ok too. But definitely try a few more times and make sure you are relaxed 💕
SO TRUE!!!!!!! great advice. Relax and take your time😊😍
Using a menstrual cup isn’t easy! You shouldn’t rule it out after just one day....
I’ll try a different one at some point.
Idk why u are getting so many negative comments this video is exactly how it happened to me. The difference is that it took me little over three hours to get out with the assistant of my mom. I was left mortified! The product worked perfectly, no leakage and I even forgot it was there, the only issue was extracting it. Your video helped me calm down a bit during my panic attack. I really appreciate you sharing this experience. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I feel it’s important to share these more negative or scary experiences to show that it might not go perfectly the first time.
Rachel Kappius yeah definitely and I’m all about trying to save the environment but this was definitely traumatizing, I’ll be trying it again but definitely not any time soon!
Oh girl I get where you're coming from. At almost 40 I've never been that up in my business and have panicked a bit about it not coming out but it does get better. Trying it just for a day doesn't give you and the cup enough credit. Please keep trying, maybe try another cup that's longer. I've been using the diva cup for about 6 months and I'm still learning but every month it gets better! Trust me, it is so worth it!
Don't pressure yourself to do something because it works for other people. I love menstrual cups, but if they don't work for you there is no need to force it. There are many options. Good on you for giving it a shot and don't try again unless you feel right about it. Thanks for sharing your experience!
“I didn’t do as much research as I should have” “I only tried it for one day” “maybe I wasn’t using the right muscles to push it out” “I didn’t like it”. I liked the first part of the video because it was all on the positives of switching to cups from pads and tampons, but if you go into something without doing enough research, the process is going to be a lot more stressful because you won’t know what to fully expect. And I think that’s the main issue with the last part of the video.
I'm sorry you had such a terrible first experience. But I hope it doesn't deter you from trying a different cup eventually. Using a cup definitely has a learning curve, and the more you use one, the easier it gets! To me, it sounds like you could have used the larger sized cup as the stems are shorter but the cup itself is longer. If you do decide to use a cup again, I'd recommend you first, measure your cervix then take the quiz from Put A Cup In It. It will provide you the best recommendations based on your answers.
If you ever find yourself in the position again where you can't reach your cup, squatting down (like all the way down to the floor) will shorten your vaginal canal, and paired with "bearing down" can make it easier to remove. It's what I had to do until I got comfortable (and not anxious) to remove my cup.
Menstrual cups are difficult to use! I struggled removing the saalt cup as well. However I am SO glad I didn’t give up. I purchased the Diva cup because it is longer, and I have been successfully using for awhile now. It’s worth it!
First time cup user. Bought a Saalt soft small. Gave it a dry run (no menstrual bleeding). The same thing happened to me, lol. My body was like “ooo, what’s this!? Gimme gimme gimme!” I have a fairly average to low cervix. Not sure where it is during menstruation, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there, but I will say don’t give up girlie. No rush, take your time and do your research. You look fairly young, you have plenty of time to find one that works :) The second and third dry run on different days were all different... but it never got sucked in and found its way back the same, lol.
Saalt is an awesome company, but if they don’t work for you, they don’t work for you. Cups can be great when they serve their purpose, but if they do not serve you then it’s not worth the anxiety or trauma. There are plenty of reusable, sustainable, and eco friendly options. Good Luck!!
Thank you for sharing your experience.
there are so many sustainable period options now! you could try a menstrual disc, it doesn't have a suction so it's better when you have an IUD and it sits in a different part of the vaginal canal. There's also cloth pads and period underwear now if you're uncomfortable with internal period products! Wish you the best on your sustainable period journey!
That's my story too. Organicup was too short for me. Then I got longer and softer cup (casco cup) for high cervix and it worked well ;) I dont recommend dry run( use lube at least then). Also gravity will bring a cup down after bleeding for few hours. / Relax = go watch a movie and forget about cup, wait, because muscles are contracting and it will be worse :) I can also tell that you should look for v-shape cup, not a bell shape. Stronger rim may prevent cup from migration also. I had lily cup one and the rim was stiff so even if this was a small and short cup, it stayed in place where I put it, loop-stem helped too :)
Don’t listen to videos like this because period cups are amazing the one crucial thing she didn’t do is measure her cervix
That’s exactly what I said at the end of the video.
People, measure your cervix before picking a cup! Our vaginas are not all the same, some need a longer cup (Lilycup for example), some need a short one like Saalt :)
Please don't pick your cup on a whim without doing researches before, like measuring your cervix and pelvic pavement type. I strongly recommend the putacupinit.com test to start with and their cup comparison chart, they really helped me out
You just told my exact first experience as well with the same cup brand. However I put mine in in the shower and then decided to try to take it out just to make sure I could do it when the time came and that’s when I started panicking. Also I was home a lone and I started to pass out. As soon as I realized this I got out of the shower grabbed my phone and laid on the bed. Then I called my husband at work and had him come home to help me. He also had to go in wrist deep to try to get it out and he tried multiple times and I thought if he can’t reach it who’s going to be able to. And even though it was my husband of 11 years I was still mortified that he had to do this for me. I will say this. I learned that I have a high cervix but I’m still terrified to try another cup that is made for high crevices because I’m traumatized that I still won’t be able to get it out. Everyone makes these cups seem so easy and the best thing they have ever used and I’m so sad that wasn’t my experience I really wanted it to work.
I'm sorry you had to go through that, but I'm glad that I'm not alone. Hopefully we can both find a cup that works.
Wrist deep???
That's does sound scary when you couldn't remove it easily or at all. I can understand the fear and trust and trauma behind that, even though I have never used a cup before only a menstrual disc which is hard enough for me to use and messy lol..so can't imagine the high stress and loss of control of this device on your body. But relieved to hear your hb was able to retrieve it.
I have had the Lunette for a few years, and I definitely experienced most of what you talked about at first, I mean a cup is something so different from what we’re used to, so of course it’s going to take time and getting used to. Don’t feel like it can’t work for you just because it isn’t easy at first, you get used to the blood and grabbing the cup out, you learn to push the cup down and quickly use it. It just takes time and is totally worth the difficulties in the end to help the environment, help your bank account and your body! I hope you try it again and it works for you!
I recommend getting the regular size and to get it out squat down and push
Girl I appreciate your honesty!! Your opinion and experience is valid. Please know that it is ABSOLUTELY fine if menstrual cups aren't for you. There can be alot of pressure put on women, especially in the zero waste world, that they need to make the switch and that if they don't they aren't being sustainable. For some, it just isn't the best, most comfortable option and THATS. OK. If you want to try the cup for a little longer that's up to you. I know my first time trying a cup was similar to yours. Sweating, panicking, wondering how I would get the darn thing out and why I even bought the thing. I decided to keep trying anyway and for me, that worked and I think the cup is amazing but that's just my experience. You may have already been told this but one tip is to go for a longer cup (like a Lily cup which is 78mm instead is the saalt small which is 70mm) another tip is going for a softer cup. Softer cups are easier to break the seal which I know can be a bit challenging on the firmer ones. Whether u decide to the the cup a little more and get more accustomed to it or u just feel like it's best to go back to tampons just know THAT WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU IS THE BEST. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for your kind message. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m gonna go about trying a cup again.
It’s important to share this type of experience as well as the good and the “just meh” ones. Everyone’s experience is different and important to share. There’s a lot more education available but it is still fairly “new’. From my research, almost 99% of women, including those with a “good” experience the first time, admit that there is a learning curve. Also, I think the concept of being comfortable with putting your hands up there and working the cup into the right spot is unfortunately fairly new as well. Just keep trying and researching and watching other people’s experience. And if doesn’t work or is painful for you and you opt not to use it, that’s fine too.
Thank you for your comment. I’ve had lots of people say that this video has no place on the internet and I strongly disagree.
@@RACHELKAPPIUS Of course it's important. More and more girls and women need to share their experiences. Sometimes, unfortunately, this is one of the only places where we can find information about this topic and try to educate ourselves. Keep it up.
WOW I wished I watched this video before buying it!!!! I just had the same issue today!😭😭😭 wasted all this money and no one told me to measure my cervix😓 thank you so much for saying something that no one else is saying!!! I will not give up on trying cups but I think I’m going for the Lily cup since I heard it is better for higher cervixes. This video is so relatable. You literally said everything I’m thinking. I hated fishing for it. Hated it. And I also had the pressure TOO except I used the Saalt cup soft!!
I’m so sorry you had a bad first experience. I might order the Lily cup as well. That one has been recommended a lot in the comments.
After my horrible experience the first time trying to get it out. I decided to give it another try and it has gotten much easier. It definitely takes a lot to get the suction released but I have practiced it and have figured it out and seem to really like it so far. But it was certainly stressful at the beginning. It is still not super easy like they make it sound but it is much more doable than before.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I found this video when I was researching about getting a Saalt cup and I wish I would have watched it instead of ignoring it like everyone in the comments is saying to. Obviously not everyone’s first experience is going to be perfect, but that doesn’t mean we should only be limited to viewing people who have had amazing first runs! I literally tried it for one day and it was probably the second most traumatic thing I’ve ever done to myself if I’m honest. It was definitely a learning experience and I definitely don’t have any plans of trying it again anytime soon. I will probably purchase the soft version just because I think the firmness was the main reason why this cup didn’t work for me, but as a nonworking student these aren’t very cheap to just buy whenever I want to. I will say that this cup is amazing and I would definitely recommend trying it! Just because it wasn’t a good cup for me doesn’t mean it won’t work for anyone else. I can easily see why people love it so much and I will definitely see if I can try out the softer version in the future
I'd highly recommend you watch Sarah Tran's menstrual cup videos on insertion and removal. They helped me a lot. It will get better if you keep trying. There is a learning curve and you will get the hang of what works for you, such as using a particular fold. For removal, squar and push down as if you were pooping. Sarah calls this the "poop flex" 😄. I was also unsure my first time trying it, but I kept going. Glad I did, as it is such a life changer 🙌
Hi I know I'm a little late to this video but I came across it today after having my first experience with the same cup two days ago! My experience was similar; I wanted to try it out before getting my period so my cervix was way high. I had trouble getting it out as well as my vagina sucked up the cup too! After many different positions and "fishing" I came across a forum where someone said putting their thumb up worked...so I did that and managed to get it out! Like you, I really wanted to give the cup a try and a second chance and I had also read that when you get your period your cervix actually lowers making it easier to take out! So I took this to heart and tried the next day (yesterday) and it was MUCH easier to take out as it had sat way lower. Also as blood collects in the cup, it weighs it down a bit so it lowers to the opening of your canal sometimes. It's been a few months so I hope you didn't give up! I'm only on my second day but it gets better with practice, and like you I felt very uncomfortable at first with putting my fingers up in there but I'm actually really liking it so far. I may also dabble with other cups as well to see if there's a difference. Anyways, thank you for sharing your experience and making me feel less alone during this whole new cup journey. :)
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m still debating if I should buy a different cup, or just use this one again but once my period really starts. That definitely could have been the main issue.
@@RACHELKAPPIUS Honestly I'd say try using the same cup again. Once you really get the hang of putting it in and taking it out and you're still uncomfortable, then I would recommend getting a different cup. I just finished my second month and I finally got the hang of it and it was amazing. I don't think I'm going to get a different cup. Also if you get it in and it opens up and everything's working just fine but you're still uncomfortable, cut off the stem a bit (or even the whole thing!), that really helped for me! I really hope it works out for you!
I tried cups over 15 years ago and they didn't work for me because the Diva cup sat low and were too long. At that time no helpful videos like these to watch. I decided to order a Kind cup which has a very long soft stem like a tampon string and is ergonomically shaped. I just received it and I'm going to try a cup one more time! Thank you for the info you were not alone and these fears are real.
Thank you. I’ll look into the cup that you mentioned.
It sounds like you should try the regular size and give it a few trys, it takes time to get used to our bodies and learn how to make the cup work. I hope you didn’t give up because it’s so worth it
I completely understand where you're coming from. I didn't use my first menstrual cup until almost a year after I bought it. Everyone goes at their own pace. Take your time
Girl, same, my biggest mistake was not measuring before I ordered the Saalt Soft. But it feels too short and also I often have huge issues with it not unfolding when inside. Very annoying. So now Im going to try the Lily Cup and hope it works.
I tried the Saalt cup this last cycle and it’s amazing
Yes!!!!! I bought the duo pack and it is soooooo good.
I’m glad that you had a positive experience using it.
This girl is acting like the cup is horrible but she didn't do THE BASIC research... you HAVE TO measure your cervix first... it says that on the saalt website and pamphlets as well... and literally any video on yt about cups. And she bought a cup even though she's squeamish? what? She's too dramatic...
Also, the bearing down helped me a lot more, for me it WAS like she first described it.
I might be years or months late, but the hate is not valid. She’s just saying her experience, and we all have unique experiences with cups.
As for me, I also bought Saalt soft because of good customer service, and they have good reputation. It was also the cup that was recommended to me via the PACII quiz. So I bought it. I tried it yesterday, I got it in, no problem. It suctioned properly inside me and I have a good day with my period. I have no leaks, no discomfort, I even forgot that I have my period because it’s so comfortable! It didn’t gave pressure on my bladder. Although I love the brand so much, I have to let it go... The removal gave me so much anxiety. I tried to rest for some hours after checking that the cup was suctioned further in. It placed itself perfectly and I can’t get it out. I have tiny fingers and I can’t pinch the base. I tried bearing down but it doesn’t help. I find it bad for my pelvic floor too that I’m always bearing down just to get the cup out. I’m afraid of getting prolapse. I thought of going to an OB-GYNE at the middle of the night because I still can’t get it out. I contacted Saalt and they were responsive. Very good customer service, I might say. I was able to get out the cup after hours of trying. What I did is I didn’t bear down because of, again, my fear of having prolapse. I just reached for the base, with my two fingers. Wiggle it side by side so the suction would at least be loosen. When I felt that it’s low enough to pinch the base, I pinched it and got it out. After that, I went back to pads because I’m still traumatized. Even if I want to use it again for the next day, I just can’t because of the removal issues. I have work from home and I can’t spend so much time in the bathroom. I just realized that I have high cervix. Very high. Please don’t judge anyone not knowing their cervix before buying a cup. Some people aren’t comfortable putting their own finger in their vagina and I’m one of them. But through what happened, I’m still uncomfortable ramming inside my vagina. It’s fine if it’s just near the entrance but feeling more of insides is too uncomfotable for me so I don’t want to experience it again. I also thought of getting longer cups because they might be easier to grab and pinch when removing. I’m thinking of Lily Cup A.
I would say using a cup takes patience and lots of research. Like on inserting it and removing. My friend started using hers at a young age but me I was impatient and not that mature. She was patient and yk she thought hers was stuck but was calm and did research on it and took it out smoothly. Me I was kicking , screaming, and stressed. But now I just started using them I’m more patient and mature so I think definitely cups depend on your level of maturity and growth. If not I suggest sticking to pads
I would for sure recommend taking the put a cup in it menstrual cup quiz
I had a pretty hard time with cups too at first, I have short fingers and an average/high cervix which is not a great combo so I had many similar experiences as you. But getting into a super low squat (Like knees up, and butt nearly on the ground) really helps to lower your cervix to a reachable range, it’s also the recommended position to check your IUD strings which you should be doing regularly as well. Also, you know how you rub your fingers together to get pages apart or a new produce bag apart, kind of like a sliding motion between two fingers? That really helps to do to break the seal once you get a good pinch grip on the base I’ve found.
I'm glad I stumbled across this. I tried a Divacup a couple years ago and it got stuck inside me, and my boyfriend had to help me take it out. Since then I also got an IUD and I've been searching for different types of cups other than a Divacup. I think measuring your cervix is a really great tip!
Did you do the 2 360 turns in either direction after it was inserted bc thats very important?
16:24 you say you pushed you cup past your pelvic bone do you mean your pubic bone?
Last night was my first night and time with my Tampax Cup (large) and I love it so much. I don't feel a thing wearing it. For me, I got the suction and inserting it right the first time, which was shocking. Removing it wasn't necessarily a breeze, but it wasn't too difficult either. Mainly because the stem was like just a smidge above my vagina opening. So I could easily grab the stem, bear down, and grab the base. Wearing it again today with my Modibodi period underwear. Love it.
I have heard all good things about the Saalt cup and I want to try it
Abby Stephens Abby Stephens I recommend it! Today’s my second day trying it. Yesterday, I was nervous because it was my first time and for some reason I was terrified of the possibility of it disappearing inside me even though the brand says it won’t happen. But I worked great for me and is still! I totally agree with this video on having to know your cervix height. That’s super important!!! I’ve never had kids before and I’m 24 and I had to buy the regular despite the comments about the regular being for women over 30 who’s had children. I would definitely say go for it!
I would recommend trying the Nixit Cup/Disc (not really a cup). Sounds like it would be a better option for you as it doesn't go 'up there', it just sits against your pubic bone and is easy to get to, and is also reusable 😊
i was 13 when i tried a menstrual cup and it hurt SO BAD but i just kept going because i have a heavy flow and i go through more than 7 tampons a day (i didnt want to ruin the environment) it continued to hurt for that period and the next time i had to use it it stopped hurting so im happy with it now
It sounds like you could benefit from a longer slimmer cup or the regular size saalt soft might work for you. 🙂
I also tried it and I was not a fan! But I kinda want to retry it now lol
So sorry but you're hilarious! This was great!!! This is EXACTLY what happened with - that damn saalt cup was almost LOST in me too!!!!!
I am on the pill so I know exactly when it’s going to come I recommend the pill because it comes on the dot of the day you will expect it because the last row of medicine is when it arrives
I had the same struggle taking it out. I honestly panicked!
I agree keep trying girl
My experience was same. Had to go A and E to get it removed. Horrifying. Couldn’t pinch the base despite bearing down
I also wanted to try a cup for environmental reasons. I tried it a few times, but it was really hard for me to get a good seal so I had lots of leaks when I used it. Also, if I ended up needing to adjust it during the day while out and about that was impossible. There was one time at home that I had to actually get into the shower and squat to be able to get it out. Switching to a cup is not easy.
Thank you for sharing your experience, it helps me feel like I'm not totally alone!
Ok now I'm scared to death to try this I'm about to get my period and I just bought this cup. I tried to measure my cervix but couldn't reach it I think I have a high cervix
I use honey pot cup I love it
Maybe try to get a saalt regular. I’m sorry it brought you so much anxiety :(
I use birth control to regulate my period and it’s amazing it comes on the dot same time every month you should switch to the pill
I tried 2 different pills and experienced horrible side effects. My IUD has been wonderful.
It took me hours to get this cup out as seal would not break and no room for fingers. Horrible!
😬
Should have done a lot more research
And been a lot more comfortable with your entire body
Seems like you’re not comfortable with your intimate area
And if you were a lot more relaxed and comfortable with everything then your first would have been a lot better
Maybe stick with period underwear
Menstrual cups are so easy and comfortable
I choked laughing I'm suing
I’m so sorry you had a bad experience but this is the funniest video iv seen all day. “ fishing expedition “
I can laugh at the experience now, but when it was happening it was pure panic.
Rachel Kappius i bet!!!
I love your explanation of everything! LOL Not for me. I'm starting to even hate tampons as I get older so I'm not messing around with these cups!
Mishka I assure you it’s so worth the hype. I recommend you watch other videos as this lady was obviously panicked from the start, which you can’t be with a cup.
Hi Ms kappius
Joe is a real keeper lol
Amen to that!
