Just a FYI for people that come here because they can’t get their ps5 to recognize the usb drive to backup...it needs to be formatted as exFAT on a pc or Mac prior. Doesn’t work if you let the ps5 format it for you as the ps4 backup drive. Or with NTFS.
Hang on its giving me a warning that it says it will wipe all data on it but it reads as no data on the pc so will it simply wipe nothing or will it wipe my games and save data? Please help @raines48
If your all your game and data are saved to the cloud you’re good to just erase it with your ps5 it will be erasing nothing if nothings on there. Glad to see it’s recognizing your external hopefully it all worked

The only way i could get mine to work is by turning on the ps5 with the extended drive connected and then once the OS is started up i quickly pull out the extended drives's USB plus from the PS5 and re-insert it as quickly as possible. It only needs to be pulled out around half a centimetre. But it must be done quickly. I've been doing this since i had the pS5 on launch day and unfortunately have to do this every time i turn it on. But at least its a way to play my games. I haven't had any issues with corrupting my drive. But do this at yourn own risk. Hope it helps someone out.
Aww man, I don't even have a PS5 yet and I've just been so hesitant to use an external hard drive for my PS4 because of this issue, but I just couldn't take the small 500GB space of the OG PS4 and got one. I hope by the time I get the chance to get one, Sony would've made a patch for this so we can all just play our PS4 games smoothly.
I used the same old external Seagate slim for my ps4 for years without issue. Seems to only be an issue with ps4. Id suggest uploading your save data to the cloud so if anything happens to your external it isn’t effected. Thanks for watching!
I never was given the safe mode option screen, but it did seem to work, however my console did recognize the hard drive again, but it gave me the "power did not turn off correctly, then booted on just fine." Message
For me It says I can’t install or download games to my external storage when I have 587gb left on the seagate 2tb. I’m only trying to download a 60gb game
Might be like my issue where the data my ps5 was reading off my seagate was corrupted. Did you try reformatting it? As long as your save data is in the cloud the only drawback is having to redownload all your games

Maybe, try both steps. My console got messed up when it froze during my data transfer, but thankfully everything’s fixed hopefully you have the same luck

hey, came across this video and I have a few questions to anyone who knows how to solve this problem and I don’t know if this video has the same problem as my extended storage so I’m not going to take any risks until someone gives me an answer. My extended store keeps saying there’s something wrong with it and that I need to repair it. It goes into its repeating face but it stops at 33% and says that the usb drive can’t be fixed and that I should reformat it, but it happens over and over again so I can’t reformat it. If someone knows how to help then please do because Im literally about to throw my ps5 out the window.

I was going round the bend trying to figure out why my PS5 would not format my WD D10 8TB HDD, it just kept saying USB file unsupported' and in the end it turned out to be something so simple it left me feeling stupid.!! I simply unplugged it from the rear USB port of the PS5 and plugged it into the other rear port (there are only two) and it reognised it immediately!! Hope this might help some other poor soul tearing their hair out like I was :) I tried just about everything else (formatting on PC, rebuilding database on PS5, and the list goe's on) but this one simple thing was all it took.
Interesting, The latest update at the end of April allowed my PS5 to see my 1tb SSD drive. However, it see’s it and then doesn’t see it. I use the usb in the back and then the small guy in the front connected to my SSD. It seems to not see it when I shut it off then back on. Since there are very few videos that go into details about an external drive for the PS5. I wouldn’t think I would need to safely remove it every time you shut off the PS5. Anyway if this fix works, I hope it will be a permanent one.
@@NioJPlays Sadly no. I followed the steps in this UA-cam video and it worked. I was able to save and move games over to the 1tb SSD drive. The problem is the next time I turn my PS5 on, it does not see it again. It is intermittent and have tried disconnecting with “Safely Removing” button before shutting it off. I have also just powered my PS5 down. The next time I want to use the SSD it does not see it. I tried all the USB ports, even the small usb in the front too. Sometimes it will work on a random USB port and other times it won’t. You shouldn’t have to remove it from the usb each time, I use the same SSD Eternal drive on my PS4 pro and can shut it off and when I turn the PS4 pro on, it see the drive. Have you figured anything out?
@@psxcancer well i did end up figuring it out. I tried everything. What weirdly worked for me was unpluging everything from the ps5 and unplugging the wire from the actual external drive. I think my wire wasn't connected to the externak hardrive properly or something. And then i just replugged everything in
@@NioJPlays cool! Are you able to just turn your PS5 off with out unplugging it (basically setting and forgetting)? Are you using the back USB ports or the front small USB port? I’m gonna try what you did too
@@psxcancer I use the back port of the ps5, the port above the other. Not sure what you mean by fully turning it off, but yea i always turn my controller off using the controller.

I have a very particular problem, I don't know if this video might help me or not, I'm gonna try it, but until now nothing has worked. I had a ton of games in my USB extended storage. The PS5 worked without any sort of problem, everything was fine. Suddenly it wasn't. It started to ask a repair for the extended storage everytime the console was turned on. Then, I tried formatting it and I did, but something weird happened. The games weren't actually deleted according to the console and even if there's no data in the extended storage, the library says they're installed there. I can't launch them nor delete them, and it keeps asking for repairs everytime I turn on the PS5. I honestly have no idea what to do. Please help me, I'm gonna try the video's solution, but I would really appreciate if anyone else knows how to solve this problem in particular
@@aaronwalters-holms1813 Hi, man. Well, it was some time ago, I did solve it, though I'm not sure exactly how I did it. I remember I went to the storage and deleted those supposedly installed games. They were like ghost files, and I'm sure I somehow ended up deleting every single one so I could re-install them

That’s the same thing happened to me. Try to upload all save data to the cloud then reformat. Hopefully that works

The problem is the next time I turn my PS5 on, it does not see it again. It is intermittent and have tried disconnecting with “Safely Removing” button before shutting it off. I have also just powered my PS5 down. The next time I want to use the SSD it does not see it. I tried all the USB ports, even the small usb in the front too. Sometimes it will work on a random USB port and other times it won’t. You shouldn’t have to remove it from the usb each time, I use the same SSD Eternal drive on my PS4 pro and can shut it off and when I turn the PS4 pro on, it see the drive.
Have you figured anything out?
@@psxcancer well i did end up figuring it out. I tried everything. What weirdly worked for me was unpluging everything from the ps5 and unplugging the wire from the actual external drive. I think my wire wasn't connected to the externak hardrive properly or something. And then i just replugged everything in

Are you able to just turn your PS5 off with out unplugging it (basically setting and forgetting)? Are you using the back USB ports or the front small USB port?

@@psxcancer I use the back port of the ps5, the port above the other. Not sure what you mean by fully turning it off, but yea i always turn my controller off using the controller.
It just happened to me but I had it in rest mode so I may have to reset the ps5 because the nvme drive isn't showing up
I honestly regret getting the ps5 so soon . I encounter a ce- error code at least once when i play

I waited a year thinking all the bugs will get fixed by the time I get it and yet all bugs still exist. I'm really disliking my ps5 😔
@@SafwanAlavi i havent had any issues since i posted this. They fixed it on my end. Just crashes some times when i play cod
So when I plug it in it begins to slow my PS5, and it still doesn't show up even after rebuilding the data base. Is it just so something wrong with the drive itself?
I've also has the drive plugged In before I turned on my Ps5 and it still doesn't show up
Also when trying to reformat it on PC, it will show up for a bit then dissappear.
I have a very particular problem, I don't know if this video might help me or not, I'm gonna try it, but until now nothing has worked. I had a ton of games in my USB extended storage. The PS5 worked without any sort of problem, everything was fine. Suddenly it wasn't. It started to ask a repair for the extended storage everytime the console was turned on. Then, I tried formatting it and I did, but something weird happened. The games weren't actually deleted according to the console and even if there's no data in the extended storage, the library says they're installed there. I can't launch them nor delete them, and it keeps asking for repairs everytime I turn on the PS5. I honestly have no idea what to do. Please help me, I'm gonna try the video's solution, but I would really appreciate if anyone else knows how to solve this problem in particular

@@aaronwalters-holms1813 Hi, man. Well, it was some time ago, I did solve it, though I'm not sure exactly how I did it. I remember I went to the storage and deleted those supposedly installed games. They were like ghost files, and I'm sure I somehow ended up deleting every single one so I could re-install them

If your Ps5 won't Connect to the Drive this is exactly what you need to do, I was also upset thinking my hard drive broken but after I rebuilt the data system the hard drive worked! Thanks
I had safely disconnected my hdd and then reconnected, but the games I had in it aren't showing, even with rebuilding the database. What's the problem?
