That whole Alto Adige region is comparatively expensive for real estate. It would be incredibly difficult to find a cute W3-style property in Bolzano itself, but actually anywhere thereabouts, for under 200,000 euros. A lot of the architecture is more southern Germanic too. It would be great for me as a German speaker, but not a realistic option for a bargain, unless you buy a complete ruin.

Hi 👋🏼 Crime rates in Italy are generally lower than other European countries, but burglaries can happen. None of our friends have experienced it but that doesn’t mean it’s not a possibility. A lot of the lock up and leave homes have extra security like shutters for all of the windows/doors, reinforced doors or an armored door, some have bars on downstairs windows, security alarm… all deterrents for would be bad actors. Bigger cities have more crime than smaller towns but personally, we’d want some extra protection if we weren’t staying full time. Hope this helps!!✨🇮🇹
Hi Carlos and Alice!! Overall, the cost of living in Italy is cheaper than the US, but if you’re living in Italy full time there are income taxes to consider. If part time and you stay 90 out of 180 you don’t pay taxes in Italy, unless you’ve generated income in Italy. If full time, It depends on your income, and it is a progressive system. There are also regional and municipal taxes that you can be subject to, that depends on the rates for those areas. Here is a site we reference often: www.greenbacktaxservices.com/country-guide/expat-taxes-for-italy/. Hope this helps! We appreciate you joining us!! 🇮🇹✨
I love your show and are looking for a property near Carrara or Lucca. Do we Americans need to pay an annual 9% tax for the property we buy there? We also have to pay for the renovation tax? For the first property you just mentioned, what’s the total tax we have to pay at the beginning and also each? It would be appreciated if you guys can help with that.
I forgot to leave comment on ski conditions: climate change has made northern Italy flood, houses pushed down rivers that were never there, snow unpredictable. Conditions must be checked daily and may never be "perfect Italian Alps skiing again, who knows.
