"Go where you are appreciated." - Frank Zane
Great advice honestly!
be blessed frank zane and others bit . ly / 2IXGBtV be blessed all.
“Go wherever the fuck you like” -Me lol Nothing but respect for Zane.. 💪
Usually "the fuck you like" equals to "where you are appreciated".
UNGETABLE7 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Frank is so dignified and classy, he has something gym bros lack today- character
Thanks Matthew. There's an element of being willing to really listen and learn before trying things yourself for understanding that a lot of people are missing, too. It's something Paul Chek covered in the interview with him. If you're interested, you'll find it here... itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/escape-your-limits/id1321349827?mt=2
According to Ric Drasin and Jerry Brainum, "Frank was a great guy and he still is" just introverted. Frank is a person i actually would like to meet and with him you could actually have great conversation instead of just small talk. High def body is great book! :)
Integrity
@D B i think you are talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger
Bit of a retarded assumption to make. As if you’ve met every gym bro today.
“You can’t escape your limits but you can expand them “
-Frank Zane
There needs to be a Frank Zane Classic: best proportion and definition wins!
Awesome idea
There already is classic bodybuilding the guys are just bigger than Zane people are not gonna lose muscle for a show
@@joebate9267 Relative to his height and bone structure Zane at his peak actually was more developed than many of the classic guys of today. In addition contrary to what many think he was not "small" in comparison to his heavier competitors at the time.
Isn’t that bodybuilding. Oh wait it ruined after dorians winning over people that had much better symmetry than him and maybe just maybe flex wheeler lost to Ronnie in 99. Just might a few cases that FUCK UP BODYBUILDING BESIDES ALL THE GROWTH HORMONES AND STEROIDS.
Lose hat
This man is the master of bodybuilding.
Yared Flores indeed!
A god
Steve Reeves + Frank Zane + Bob Paris + Francis Benfatto.
You can hear the teacher in him when he speaks
@@mrpunisher7495 Clearly a "god" wouldn't age and wither away - as all men do. There IS a true God, and He's the only one - YHWH.
Bought a leg blaster from Frank many years ago. He called shortly after to make sure I was happy with the product, and I had a good conversation with him...very interesting and thoughtful fellow.
Bought a leg blaster 2 years ago, used, in England. The squats of the future. All gym should have one. I know now why i never liked the classic squats.
What is this I hear you talking about? Something to replace the dreaded SQAUT 🥰
Yeah, I saw that leg blaster advertised in Flex, along with the slogan, "Legs like Zane," but never got it. I called on an ad for Mike Mentzer's training books in Flex and expected to speak to a secretary. Instead, Mike answered the phone himself, and I talked to him for a while. He was out of breath from running upstairs to the phone, he said, so I kidded him about how his heavy-duty approach needed more cardio, like stair stepping. hehe He was a heavy dude too -- into Ann Rand and objectivism. (He was dead a couple of years later. )
Never heard of Suzanne Summers calling someone after getting a "thigh-master."
How much was it ?
Of course he's not the only, but one of the most intelligent and articulate bodybuilders ever.
It was a pleasure working with him!
Truly. Perhaps one of the best ever in aesthetics
Sure much more intelligent, than Arnold.
Of course you have others like...liiike...🤔 mmm...🤔
@@imanoldurham5395 Dorian Yates.
I love Frank Zane, he keeps it real. He is soooo refreshing as a man who is not just working on his body but also his spirit and mind. I respect his energy and his constant striving to grow with out shame.
You're right! When Frank talks about workout out, he means every aspect of his mind, body and soul.
@@EscapeFitness, As a man should be.
He's such a class act....
In every way!
Real role model
Zane sounds like Eastwood.
he totally does!
Do ya feel lucky? WELL? Do ya punk?
@@ericdahl2915 yeah i agree that sounds really looks eastwood really humble calm in interview
Have u ever seen a easy wood movie
Very much so.
"There is no such thing as being,
there is only becoming"
Frank Zane
When I was in the Army in the 1970's I was surprised at the number of guys that worked out thought only of Frank Zane as someone to be idolized. Most were not interested in developing a body like Arnold's and felt women appreciated a body like Frank's.
Apparently the magazine covers with Frank sold more than Arnold.... at least initially.
The Zane look would be much more popular with most women, aesthetically. It's a more approachable look.
It is more averige, that is what normal gay wont to look, novine spectacular
not surprised, women are more into aesthetics not mass monsters.
Honestly, who doesn't like Frank Zane?
Even if you don't like bodybuilding, he's got so much knowledge and he's such a nice guy!
Functional training doing nice job😍
I don't like his body. All wrong. Maybe he looks better in person?
I had a pretty bad experience, with him. I met him and his wife back in 2010 and, without getting into details, I can say that he definitely wasn't a nice guy. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he was having a horrible day, but, it was a bad experience, either way.
Bran Kind
You can't appreciate how good he looks until you see him in person. The photos don't tell half the story.
Yo this dude is 76? WTH that’s inspiration right there!
Damn... This guy just became my favorite bodybuilder! What a way to think and a way to approach life!
He's an incredibly insightful man. There are a lot more people talking about the secrets of their success and approach on the rest of the podcast, too. Check a few out :) itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/escape-your-limits/id1321349827?mt=2
you cant deny the years of knowledge he has acquired intellectually, intuitively, and from the heart had truly brought him to a level of simplicity most of us cant imagine let alone attain.
I love how philosophical Frank is. I could listen to him speak all day 👌🏼

Man... old school guys like Frank, Arnold, and Dorian are infinitely more interesting and intelligent than the likes of Jay, Ronnie, etc.
Cause they were real men and not preening peacocks.
@Jeffrey Hinkel
At 47 I'm old enough to know the truth of this declaration. Our culture has been debased and superficialized and our people dumbed down to a point I would never have believed possible as an adolescent.
@Jeffrey Hinkel
Didn't mean to give that impression. By "this declaration" I was referring to your above statement. I took no offense and was merely agreeing with you.
Dorian isn't old and he's what caused the monstrosity that's called bodybuilding today. The original overweight pregnant bubble gut blocky physique. His back looks like some play dogh that got mushed up by a 3 year old. He NEVER had an Olympia worthy physique. He only won his Olympias cause his g4p buddy Steven Weinberg was a head judge.
@ Van Damme was a bodybuilder.
My favorite Bodybuilder of all time, and my late dad's too!
The Best Body Ever !!
Yes one of the best for sure
Aesthetics wise, perhaps the best
The Magazine cover on the wall says it all . 'Best Physique ever'
Love his perfect looking body
Was @ the 79 Mr.O. He still inspires me to this day. True Legend. Much respect
amazing interview! Frank Zane has always been my favorite bodybuilder of all time!

Ageing so very Gracefully. God Bless U Mr Frank Zane. U were always my Favourite. I Even Copied your posing style in most competitions - AND I always won.
Great work, and congratulations.
I can't believe I watched the whole thing... Frank is fascinating gentleman!
Frank Zane..I interrupted this interview because I was motivated to hit the gym..and it's difficult to motivate myself sometimes..Now watching again..I could sit with Mr.Zane and talk for hours..What a guy!..
Frank gets really spiritual and psychological with you in interviews. Although it felt 'rushed' by the interviewee . 'yeh, yeah, right, right, yah, yeah. . '
Not too much engagement on his end. Was prob a homework assignment for him without really knowing much of Frank's past .
Enjoyable and lengthy, despite it all. .
Hellthrasher annoying the. "yeah yeah". ...and. " Right". ....as if..."ok- enough...make it short"....
I agree! It sounds like he’s not interested in anything anyone says by keep going, “yep, yep, yeah” while they’re talking. Also he doesn’t listen properly, ends up asking the same questions and repeating back incorrect information. The London Real guy is much better.
I agree he came off cold and dry without any passion for what he was saying . Could of been nervousness and lack of experience or just personality ?
@@benpharrison he is agreeing with him and acknowledging the importance of what he's saying and letting him know he's following along. You must be a boring as hell to talk to just staring quietly saying nothing 🤣
Yes. The guy almost killed the interview. Frank is so brilliant and self-sufficient that he has toned down this annoying interviewer trait. Very unsuitable for an interviewer.
THERE IS NO ONE LIKE FRANK...He had the kind of physique MOST everyone wanted !!!
What a man!...so intelligent plus emotionally & spiritually aware! his words are so worth listening to as he clearly has a deep understanding of mind, body and spirit...Wow!!!
He is a perfect mixture of Bodybuilding, Spirituality, Positivity, Self Respect & Self Acceptance..Thats what is needed for the Youth today..Thanks for the video..So happy to see Frank..God bless..😊

"The present is a microsecond fiction - now you see it, now you don't"
I LOL'd so hard at how true this is.
Frank know's the contest is already won before he step's on stage, you see he's visualised it so many times, after all it's a mind game everything start's in tbe mind.
King of aesthetics
I love Frank Zane!
I think the difference with mr Zane as opposed to most in the fitness industry is that his philosophy is grounded in reality. There’s something very sensible and practical about his ideas and personality.
There is only one Frank Zane! That's the biggest success! 💪
Very good point, George.

Like any pursuit, bodybuilding has moved along and boundaries pushed
We've become used to size the Dorian, Ronnie, Markus, Ramy etc represent, so its easy to forget.
But just look back at his images and WOW!
What a beautiful physique.
I defy any man, bodybuilding fan or not, to say they wouldnt want to look like that?
An absolute icon, genius, and gentleman. ❤
The Chemist!
Why did they call him that ?

Your answers are valid in the lala land. In the real world his nickname reflected his impeccable knowledge of steroids and how to use the exactly right amount.
@@wildanS Which he could do because of his background.

Yes, Vince had a fantastic body like Frank. Vince was around in that era, he was regarded as the greatest trainer ever. His book Unleashing The Wild Physique is great
Steve Reeves
Frank has a beautiful wife. Very classy lady. They are a beautiful couple. God bless them.
Simply Dragon what has this got to do its this video?
@ I wouldn't say that anymore.
@ not at all.
Brother Mark he's just making a comment...
@ Blows Arnold away?
How so when Zane just said he only works out one day a week at his age...
saved this in my "life and philosophy" folder instead of "fitness".. thanks DY
Absolutely 👍
There are a few athletes in history who's name is almost bigger than sport they participate in, Nicklaus, Palmer, Jordan, Ali, Federer, Senna, Dimagio. Nobody is bigger than the sport or so we are told, all we know is some get closer than other's, Frank is in that elite group.
Intelligent and interesting guy.........a legacy being made right here!

Love Frank Zane. Knowledgeable, Kind, Motivated. The best.
Frank is a legend ! I also didn’t know Lance Armstrong had such an interest in interviewing bodybuilders.
Amazing, looks like the blokes figured out human cloning already.
The real Lance Armstrong would be much more interesting and knowledgable about steroids and training than this clown!
Wow I did not expect the content that came out of this interview! What an incredible multi dimensional and knowledgeable man
Bought Frank Zane Leg Blaster and i train quads and calves on it ar home. I started to grow. Squats never liked them. Now there is no lower back or knee pain. I feel my quads burning with less weight- it isolates the muscle perfectly.
I once heard mr Zane was bitter so glad I tuned in such a thoughtful evolved man.
Still an inspiration

Nice to finally meet him and hear in an interview. To me he was the most aesthetically built of all the greats.
Thx for bringing Mr. Zane to us for an hour visit.
Thanks Johnny. It was great fun to speak to him and an incredible insight into someone so experienced at the top of his game. We've also got Lee Haney featured on another episode, have you seen/heard it? itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/escape-your-limits/id1321349827?mt=2
I met him twice in 1979,1980 when he guest posed at the Mr Canada/ Canadian Championships in Montreal and Hamilton. I treasure the photo I have with him and the conversations we had
First of all thank you, you the interviewer for not interrupting Frank once, and thank you Frank for your outlook on life, not just body building. So brilliant to hear you speak the way you did in this interview. Been a long time Arnold fan like everyone else. But I do believe Frank has surpassed Arnold for me after listening to him speak. Brilliant. 💪🙏☯⚛
One of the only few bodybuilders who are still healthy in Age. 75 years old and looks like mid 50's. Look at Ronnie coleman or arnold, they got more and more Injurys and become ill.. respect for zane, the best example for a healthy Life.
He's done so well. Our episode with Lee Haney also covers how to train without getting injured. You can find it here... ua-cam.com/video/p3wPtgxjs7A/v-deo.html&lc=UgyfKz4xrKuvMZwgyip4AaABAg
Respect to Steve Reeves and Frank Zane. Top two in my books.
to be fair, ronnie was a lot bigger and trained much heavier which was probably the reason he declined so fast
@@ee-ec9vq Yes you are right, however ronnie's form was terrible. He also injured himself many many times.
Isn't Ronnie in a wheelchair? His body is broken beyond belief now.
THE greatest of all time. CLASS ACT!
watched the entire interview. Intelligent/introspective/humble despite some big accomplishments...focused and well rounded individual.
Zane may well have been one of the most intelligent of all bodybuilders of all time... not just during his genre`
Watching that interview and listening to him explain espouse and elaborate on his approach to life makes you understand
more deeply why Zane would have been a success or champion in whatever direction the man decided to take.
I love listening to the old school guys. They have so much wisdom and I much prefer the old school physique. Its usually so simple what they have to say.

I'm a 65 year old man that.started lifting weights as a kid because of Zane. Still lifting and fit. Zane is the GOAT.
I remember Frank Zane from magazines, when I was a kid. What a great spirit!! Love his harmonica playing too!
I learned so much about working out and nutrition listening to this man.
When I first saw one of Frank Zane’s photograph the first thing that came to my mind was a perfectly sculpted Greek statue. I kept thinking ‘is this possible’ that day. True legend!
I grew up during that golden era of bodybuilding and of all the great physiques from that era Frank Zanes would be the one I'd want.
Frank it was you who inspired me to stay steroid free, you had such a great attitude, I read one of your books about how you trained and lived, it was what I wanted to do. I just wanted to be a better me, and I lost that mind set after raising 3 children sent them through school. Now I'm back on track, eating right and working out. Good Luck in this part of your life and journey with your search to find that you were created by a much higher power after him, who loves you. Life is always better when you are healthy and happy.
where/when has he admitted to never using steroids ?
I’m sorry John, I’m a personal trainer. Im 32 now and I’ve seen it all. This guy was not natural. Admittedly he was never doing lots of roids, but he was definitely doing it on occasions. Remember, the competitions he entered weren’t drug tested. I know it’s hard information to take in because he’s an idol of yours. I have amongst the best natural genetics of the people I’ve met and I could never look like Frank. I really do feel sorry for people because we are constantly deceived by others. Remember Frank had a reputation to uphold, perhaps he once told his wife etc that he’s natural and now has to keep to that story. Take care
Zane walked so Zyzz could run. In the most respectful way possible. Zane the true student of the sport paved the way for aesthetics to manifest its influence.
Humble studiousness ironically gave us U MIRIN BRAH?
Frank Zane, The Chemist: Even if he utters a word, I need to take notes ! One of the great legends of the sport. This is one of the best interviews with Zane I've seen, he reveals everything.

Yeah sure..thanks ! To give you an honest feedback, your interviewing skills look professional & you give time & space for the person to express himself, pls continue the same in the future.
Can you try to meet up with other legends like Lou ferrigno, Dickerson, Bannout & even others in a similar field..
We'd love to! Thank you for your feedback, it's much appreciated and makes all the hard work that goes into these interviews worth it.
Lou Ferrigno, Zane, Franco Columbo, Sergio,Arnold, Mentzer. These 70's, 80's bodybuilders were Godlike
My two favorites Mike Mintzer, Frank Zane.
Mike Mentzer did a lot of steroids - Arnold was on Dianabol from day one - they always deny that they used steroids...
Love Frank and always have. Got his autograph while he was attending the 1979 World Power Lifting Championship in Dayton, Ohio. Nice and smart man.
Mr. Symmetry. One of the best Body in History.
THE BEST THEN AND NOW!!! FRANK ZANE!!! All my friends used to ask "If we could be any one in bodybuilding...who would you be?' FRANK ZANE was always the answer! So great to see you still looking and sounding and BEING.....FRANK ZANE!!! I Love Ya SIFU!!!
Frank is the Michelangelo of bodybuilding. Thanks for the advise and encouragement Frank.
He is extremely intelligent in many ways, incredible physique, an inspiration to definitely aspire to be, especially today, ultimate in aesthetics , way to go Frank
I love his attitude and mindset. He was winning his Mr. Olympia's when I was in HS. He's always been one of my favorites from an aesthetics perspective, but he's also one of my favorites for his mind and his mindset.
Frank has figured it out...continues to change and be an utmost source for fitness, health, and happiness...RIGHT ON FRANK
"why did you decide to do that? Because it worked"
Keep it simple!
Frank Zane talking about criticism he got in 1982 for coming in too big shows you how much body building has changed since then. Now it's all about the mass monsters. It's not that symmetry and definition are completely irrelevant now, they've just slipped down the line of importance when it comes to the stage. Fortunately there is Classic Physique now, but most of the top competitors today in that division would have a tough time even making the top 5 during the Frank Zane era.
Mr. Zane, that was really neat how you said we need to create a vacuum in our mind as opposed to doing the vacuum pose with our body. I get it. Thank you again.
This man is a rare combination of an athlete and a scholar/scientist. An analogy would be a person who designs and builds a warplane and uses that specific plane to become a pilot ace. Outstanding individual.
24:00 he who thinks he can and he who thinks he can't are both probably right.
Makes sense, right?
Functional Training by Escape Fitness Right. The older I get the more I realize how accurate it is. I used to think it was just a metaphor.
What does it mean to you, Vince?
Functional Training by Escape Fitness as a psychology graduate I believe it has to do with the way you wire your brain. When you learn a new skill neural changes occur in the brain for that new acquired skill such as playing a guitar. It's extremely complex at first but after a while of doing it over and over again you begin to play without looking at any of the strings or frets. A change in your brain had to occur in order for that to be possible. You can do a mri of the brain and actually see the changes occurring at the cellular level. They grow. People can negatively wire their brain. The same way anxiety can be arguably wired as well. Like Sylvester Stallone said in Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6) "If you stay in one place too long, you become that place." The brain adapts quickly.
Steve Reeves and Frank Zane have the best bodies and the faces to match with it !
I love Frank. Thank you, Teacher.
What a fantastic inspiring honest individual.....I've followed him on and off since the 80's. Glad to see he's still an inspiration
Am I the only one who thought that intervier was Lance Armstrong with a bald head and British accent?
Same, he does resemble or looks a lot like Lance Armstrong, could be his fill in double!
I also thought it was Armstrong
Peter Banjoo No, he’s English.
