Still have the RASA 8? Would love to see some content for this if you do I just picked one up myself. Waiting on the starizona drawer and a 7.5 mm spacer for native connection with my zwo 1600
Hi Joseph, No I sold it a few months back and I'm on the RASA 11 waiting list at OPT. Hoping to get it before the year is out! Not looking good for that! I'm near Lake Erie and get a few clouds when the seasons turn. So I'm in no hurry... Yeah right! ;-) My plan is to add more RASA content as I have the new DS26cTEC which this OTA should be a great match for. Can hardly wait for things to come together.
Awesome video! Thankyou! I am trying to learn Platesolving, and this program seems awesome! Once the Astronomy results appear (RA,DEC) Can I manually input them into my goto software? Or does the "sync" option do that for me
If you can connect to the mount through ASCOM. Then you can use the Sync function to sync the mount with the results from the solve. Your mount software needs to allow for more than one ASCOM connection at a time. I set my ASPS to ask me before it does the sync. This way if you don't think things look right you don't have to do the sync. Sure makes life much easier if your FOV is small and you are missing the sensor because of a small chip.
@@jscerb1290 Every scope has PC software that interfaces with the mount. This software will usually allow for other 3rd party programs like ASPS, Stellarium, and PHD2 to connect and control the mount. With current Celestron mounts, that would be CPWI. CPWI will act as a Comms Port Hub to assign Comms Port numbers so that there isn't a Comms Port conflict. When you want to connect to the mount with ASPS. You would connect to the mount using the mounts ASCOM driver. For other manfactures, I'm not going to be much help I'm afraid... You will need to do some research on the mount you wish to do this with. Sorry I can't be of more help...
@@jeffrh Thanks for the details! . I did not have a "Comms hub" or "POTH hub" running; so maybe the mount was not connected? Here is a image of the error I get when I try to Sync after solving i.imgur.com/1S2AVGR.jpg
@@jscerb1290 Getting out of my pay grade here... Do you know if you have the 64-bit version of ASCOM Platform installed or the 32-bit version? You can't mix ASCOM drivers for the 32-bit version with the 64-bit version of the ASCOM Platform... I would start there first. Sorry I can't be of more help here...
astrogb just keeps kicking up security warnings and won't even download the Plate Solver, Warning says 'cannot be downloaded securely" Do you have another source ?
ASTAP can be downloaded by selecting keep. Then you will get another warning and keep again. There is nothing wrong with this software other than it doesn't have the MS security certificates you would get from the compiler. If this bothers you , you can try something like AllSky Plate solver.
@@jeffrh ya I eventually got around the security warnings but it sure put up a fight to resist the download. I'm at the scope setup now and have yet another dumb question: Do we plate solve the guide scope or main objective or does it matter if both are aligned ?
@@SmeeUncleJoe You would need an image to load into the program so that it can do a solve. You also need to run the setup first so it knows what index file you need to download. Hope this hepls...
Thanks, finally got ASPS working!
Great news Pat... Enjoy plate solving bliss! ;-)

@@jeffrh how do I have the program connect to my ascom telescope? Do I need a physical cable? My Mount is unfortunately Wi-Fi right now

@@jeffrh Sorry no. I have two scopes, one for guiding and one for taking photos. I was asking which one i should use for plate solving ? Thanks.
@@SmeeUncleJoe Ops, the main imaging scope... Sorry about that... ;-)
Looks like I didn't use the bin 2 parameters for the DS26c camera so the correct index files may not have been installed. I used the unbinned numbers
Hope you got things working Dan...

Get an ssd drive u will boot fast even with a million Icons
Thanks for the suggestion... All ready have one installed. I boot so many times that the fewer icons makes a Huge difference! ;-)
