They can gallop really fast and jump 6 feet from the ground into the air to catch flying birds. Amazing animals that need our help. Great video! Just subscribed

Incredible conservation work in Cuba! But much more must be done to fully conserve the Cuban crocodile adequately, especially in terrestrial landscapes since this is a terrestrial croc species not living at its fullest.

Yes surprisingly Cuban crocodiles are actual terrestrial carnivores, so the best chance for there survival is reintroducing them into terrestrial ecosystems in the Bahamas and other Caribbean islands like the Dominican Republic, and Cayman Islands. Current conservation limits the Cuban crocodile to just semi aquatic environments, but the cuban crocodile is a terrestrial adapt carnivore and can live in a much wider range of habitats. It would also avoid hybridization from the American crocodile completely, and restore functionally extinct ecosystems in the Bahamas and other Caribbean islands. But first they would have to reintroduce hutia rodents, rock iguanas, and tortoises to those islands to bring back biodiversity, seed dispersers, and prey for the Cuban crocodile to feed on in terrestrial ecosystems. Regarding the terrestrial nature of Cuban crocodiles, fossils of Cuban crocodiles have been found in abaco island in the Bahamas and based on the stable isotopes found in the bones of these Cuban croc fossils, it lived in a terrestrial rather than aquatic food web, here’s the paper. appliedecology.cals.ncsu.edu/absci/wp-content/uploads/Hastings-et-al.-2014pdf.pdf
There are already talks about Cuban crocodiles being rewilding candidates for terrestrial landscapes in the Bahamas mentioned in a magazine talking about rewilding reptiles and how reptiles are unfortunately rarely regarded as ecosystem engineers, and unappreciated in there importance in ecosystems, here’s the source www.anthropocenemagazine.org/2018/01/the-unappreciated-importance-of-reptiles/
Hopefully more conservations become aware of the Cuban crocodiles terrestrial ecological importance soon, its the only way to save them from extinction by hybridization, and allows the Cuban crocodile to thrive and also breaking the myth of crocodiles just being water bound Semi aquatic apex ambush predators, this would also expand there range and improve the Cuban crocodiles survival plus no anthropogenic hybridization would threaten the Cuban crocodile as mentioned before since it’s in a terrestrial ecosystem, and also greater conservation success and recovery of the species will surely occur when scientists are fully aware of the fascinating terrestrial nature of the Cuban crocodile.

They are indeed super incredible and awesome Species, and are more important and special than people might realize, they are in fact terrestrial adapt carnivores. In the Bahamas as well as in the Dominican Republic and Cayman Islands Cuban crocodiles were living in terrestrial ecosystems on the landscapes of those islands, fossils of Cuban crocodiles have been found in abaco island in the Bahamas and based on the stable isotopes found in the bones of these Cuban croc fossils, it lived in a terrestrial rather than aquatic food web. The paper is called “ Domination by Reptiles in a Terrestrial Food Web of the Bahamas Prior to Human Occupation” they also have incredible vibrant colors, large squamosal horns, broad deep skulls with long recurved compressed teeth, long limbs with heavy keeling, hunt in packs, hunted grounds sloths in the past, and are very intelligent, even tho crocodilians are know for being intelligent already with them hunting cooperatively and using tools to catching nesting birds, it’s just that the Cuban crocs are known for such abilities and not cryptic about there behaviors.

I love their recovery and have spoken to the herpetologist in Louisville who is heavily involved in their species survival plan. I doubt he would think they pose no threats to humans though. If you mean at that size they don't pose a threat, I get that. I just think people should let crocodiles have their space is all as it is best for both groups.

What fucking croc or gator isn’t terrifying you got to respect their bite zone also not be stupid.
They quite literally stayed slightly the same during their evolution. Just stay a good 10 feet and get a stick.

i find it strange that they are portraying the cuban crocodile as cute and cuddly. when in actuality it is a very dangerous animal, that has more then enough resources to take out a man. just watch the gatorland vids on the cuban crocodile. it is no joke despite being one of the "smaller" crocodilians

These little girls think that the cuban crocodile is cute and cuddly just for her little pictures in reality she knows nothing able this animal those crocodiles should be left alone and strict guidelines should take affect to protect these crocodiles and keep them away from little girls who want to take modeling pictures for her own benefit
