The greatest irony in the narrative that Allosaurus outcompeted Ceratosaurus to extinction is the fact that Ceratosaurus had the last laugh in the end, since its clade survived till the very end of the Mesozoic while Allosaurus' clade ended up going extinct over 20 million years prior
The Ceratosaurus was supposed a Carnotaurus in the original script of JP3, but it had to change because it was the main villain in Disney's Dinosaur. Maybe thats why Ceratosaurus has a similar color scheme to that Carnotaurus
I have a feeling it was less about Disney's Dinosaur and more about it being easier and quicker to mangle the CGI model for the T. rex into a Ceratosaurus than making an entirely new Carnotaurus model for a scene that's just a few seconds long.
Keep in mind the only reason ceratosaurus is in the franchise is because the writers of JP3 decided to use an entirely new dinosaur, and by extension, make an entirely new model from scratch, just to make a poop joke.
@evamariagarciagarrido6123 From what I’ve consistently heard, it was going to be a young Rex in that scene, but they opted for a new Dino instead, so they tweaked a few things in the design, gave it a recolor & BAM Ceratosaurus.

14:20 "Scott couldn't get through a sentence a chimp sa- *wheeze*" I think in that moment we saw, in real time, Daltons brain processing the absurdity of the stunlock, and broke as a result.
Fun Fact: Did you know Ceratosaurus teeth have been found in Uruguay 🇺🇾? So if Ceratosaurus was out competed by Allosaurus in North America and Europe, that would explain how it got expelled to Southern South America
One thing to note about Ceratosaurus supposedly being uncommon as well is that predators can have local impacts on eachother without that telling you anything about the rarity of the species. Siberian tigers suppress wolf numbers, sometimes to the point of localized extinction, in eastern Russia but gray wolves are abundant in other parts of the country. Conversely, Eurasian lynx are rarer in areas with high wolf numbers but we have three times more lynx than wolves in my country. Gray wolves displace cougars in Yellowstone, yet cougars outnumber wolves 4:1 in the United States and lions sometimes exterminate whole packs of African wild dogs, and yet the two species have historically had basically the same range. From my understanding, Ceratosaurus remains are outnumbered 7:1 by Allosaurus remains in quarries where both are found together. Is that really a fair ecological signal though? With Allosaurus being the larger animal and mass being the most important factor in fatal interactions between predators in ecology - couldn't it just mean that Ceratosaurus tended to avoid areas with large numbers of Allosaurus? If the observation is "where there are many Allosaurus, there are few Ceratosaurus", doesn't it just make sense that they tended to avoid eachother? It's not like modern predators love sharing territory. Like look at the Serengeti today. African wild dogs, spotted hyenas, leopards, cheetahs and lions all eat wildebeest. Some of them are absolutely rarer than others and they kill eachother occasionally but they all manage to survive despite the presence of the other species? How? Mostly by having slightly different spatial, temporal, and behavioral habits. I feel like that's more likely what was going on in the Morrison too, because predators just tend to kill the most abundant prey source in the ecosystem right? Realistically they were probably all mostly eating young sauropods, stegosaurs & ornithopods to a similar degree. Maybe Allosaurus just tended to cluster their territories or home ranges around areas that were more agreeable to fossilization than Ceratosaurus or Torvosaurus? Looking at an Allosaurus quarry and saying "Where are all the other theropods?" feels a bit like finding a sinkhole full of lions and asking "Where are all the hyenas?"
Just wanted to say that I am loving all of the additional visuals you've been editing in for us lately. It helps so much! Keep up the great work and your channel will continue to grow!

26:40 reminded me of that recent miragaia paper. Stegosaurus upon spotting ceratosaurus just dicing it into 6 pieces by swinging its tail at like 50 miles per hour. 😂

Love Ceratosaurus. It's a major dinosaur in setting up parks that unless I'm going for a specific theme I'll try and include a set of them with a solid design and set of colors. Really it's ironic how what was a single scene dinosaur barely in JP3 is such a key dinosaur for evolution 1 and 2.
Was lucky enough to see ceratosaurus nasicornis in the utah museum of natural history and they're much bigger than I thought.(Also Lokiceratops was great to see)
I live in Montana and we do have some abandoned houses that do look like courage’s house from that show. But we also have huge city’s and the internet and everything that all the rest of the country has.
Jurassic Fight Club is in a weird place in my history because it had a fighting game, that was somewhat fun, on the history website which would also have just the most erroneous information for the animals, so it's surprising to me that it had such a good cgi model for the Ceratosaurus for the time and for such a not good documentary

In South America it seems Smilodon populator and Smilodon fatalis did overlap a TINY bit based on a specimen of fatalis from Uruguay. Otherwise they were separate in distribution
Childhood me latched on hard to Ceratosaurus as a favourite after watching it being permanently depicted as an underdog getting shaken down for its lunch money by Allosaurus. This came full circle in JWE1 when I roided mine out and had it systematically dismantle every other carnivore in the game as sweet revenge for not having as low needs as Cerato and constantly escaping.
Ceratosaurus and several other Medium theropods in the game being oversized will always annoy me, hell in non-paleo media in general they're always ballooned up to be anywhere from 50% to over twice as large. Everyone wants everything to be the size of T. rex.
The sheer amount of disdain in your hearts for this creature is heartbreaking 😭 IMHO, this is an easy A, nothing short of the highest B. Like, I know that we live in an era where we're almost spoiled with S tier Ceratosaurus designs elsewhere (pretty much every other dinosaur game lol). But this guy here is one of the JWE OG designs that somehow still manages to spark joy AND compromises between the real thing and the franchise's counterpart, and that's one heck of an achievement.
