The song was written sometime after Danes and Vikings made slaves of native Anglalanders. Like nearly one thousand years later, and were talking about the Barbary slavers who raided Britain's coasts for young men and women in the century before.
It was one reason the Royal Navy was formed, and one reason why those pesky Barbary slavers got stonked in their home ports.

'Azure' is a blue colour suggesting the blue of the sky. In Italian, it's actually a different colour, much as Pink is not seen as a Red colour in English.
More complicated still, in Japanese, no distinction is made for blue as being different from green.
Older model kits always told modellers to paint a red and blue light on the wingtips of planes and masts of ships, when the international standard, even before WWII was red and green to mark left and right sides.
The language operates differently.
