Had to restrain him to bed? That's what we would all expect I imagine.
Yes, it is. A childhood friend fell out of a tree in high school. He was in a coma for 6 mos .and had to be restrained. This was more than 60 years ago. Medical care today is obviously better(more knowledge). My friend survived without side effects. He told his dad he was looking at a girl.
It has nothing to do with him being determined or strong, it is because he is so disoriented because of the injury. So having to restrain him wasn’t a good thing at all.

@@TheCrazyMoparDude68 Correct. Restraints are a last resort for patient safety. Significant agitation is a sign of mental confusion, so his brain is still injured severely but hopefully showing signs of healing.
I have "come to" after brain surgery wearing restraints. That is EXTREMELY disorienting and maddening until the sedatives wear off and the person has either calmed down on his/her own or has been; in effect; "talked down" from the anesthesia or lapse in consciousness.
I pray for his FULL recovery. John Force is indeed a force.

The CT Scans of Johns brain, over the next weeks, may determine his early retirement... or not.
Doctors may not give him a choice
The current symptoms spoken of are normal for this kind of injury, and are usually temporary. Whether there's more damage or if there is permanence will take time to know. But if he heals well I think he'll race again- it's what he lives for and his family knows that.
No way the doctors or the NHRA will let him back in a car, despite his legend status!
I think he’s done enough. It’s time to retire.

Neuro-Docs were worried that he seemed highly excited and rambling incoherently and very loudly!
The GOAT's always been like that!
Someone needs to do a short compilation video of John , being himself and send it to his doctors , so that they understand just what the hell they are dealing with !

Great Great News!!! I wouldnt doubt he will still race. He is one high strung stubborn raging bull!! He IS NHRA drag racing.
There's no way at his age will he be medically cleared to drive again and despite his legend status the NHRA would be fools to let him, there's no way to guarantee it ( explosion & crash ) wouldn't happen again.

@BT-be8rh In 2007 John had a horrific crash. The chassis split in two. His legs were mangled badly. They said he wouldn't likely walk again. He came back and won his 16th World Championship!

@@garyjackson3531 That's a far cry from a massive head injury at the age of 75, Oh and I don't need a history lesson on John, done lot's of work for him.
One of my friends had a hunch Force suffered a TBI. So unfortunately that wasn't surprising.
However he definitely seems to have improved from before. The agititation based on confusion & being freaked out not knowing the situation isn't all too surprising.
The part about him trying to get up & go to work as if nothing happened also isn't surprising given his nature. I felt like he was gonna be fine & it appears I'm right. Sure the recovery will take quite a bit, but I still feel like he'll be fine.
Thank the Lord!! John is a legend in all of Motorsports!!

Thanks, Kenny, for passing along the update on John. Brings tears to my eyes to think we might be robbed of what makes John, John.
Head injuries are nothing to play around w/. I was trained in Sports Medicine in the '70's & was in the profession as an Athletic Trainer. I was also a competiton freestyle skier in the '70's.
The medical field knew minimal about brain injury; no std rehab. My fellow competitors & I didn't have enough sense to wear helmets.
Two things changed both situations. The breakthru idea of practicing jumps & aerial maneuvers over a swimming pool, (until then, you practiced over the hard azz snow.)
On the medical side, the Afghan & Iraq wars & the 10,000's of TBI's it generated forced the medical profession to catch on assessment, guidelines for post concuss participation & rehab.
The ironic thing was the discovery of how the damage of TBI can be so similar to the effect of stroke.
John was alert & conscious on the gurney & went downhill as the internal bleeding progressed & inter-cranial pressure increased.
That's why proper assessment & post concuss activities/limits are so important.
I sustained a mild to moderate TBI in 2003; fell from a 2ft step ladder, hit the back of my head on a plastic garbage can ¾ full of water.
I was alert & acting normally post injury, my daughter, who'd been housesitting before our returning home about 10pm, needed her tail lights fixed before she could drive home.
I did that, fixed a midnight meal, (airline food) & had it together enough, in spite of a back & head ache to coach my on waking me every hour, make certain I was coherent & if not, call 911.
She did, I did, in the morning I got up, walked, talked, drove like normal. Only thing was, 6 months later, in late Sept, I started to come out of the state of retro- grad amnesia I was in.
I had no memory of the 6 months from May to Sept; & have regsined snippets, here & there, mebbe 5, 6, at most.
That injury devastated my life; lost my biz & everything I'd gained in nearly 40 yrs of working/earning/investing while waiting for SS Disability to be determined.
Like John, I was alert & responsive post injury but, my sitch shows, it can chsnge dramatically.
Hopefully John will be spared what I, (& 100,000's of Afghan & Iraq vets), have experienced.
There's a reason for the suicides, homelessness & other behaviors.
If someone looks like they need, or if they ask for help, & could be a vet, by all means help them. Even if it's simply finding something in a recently reorganized store, (1 of my biggest public challenges).

Used to go to drag races as a kid and specifically was excited to see John Force race. Went to the pits to get his autograph on a cool photo and maybe get nitroed in the process. John was always such a cool guy. Took time to talk to me with a big smile in his face. He's a legendary funny car driver and awesome human. His character shows through the amazing women he raised up following in his footsteps.
These things always seem to happen in dangerous professions right on the brink of retirement. Thank you for being such a stand out role model throughout your career. A lot of people are praying for you and your family.

I met JF when I was redoing his Yorba Linda machine shop all with stainless steel he was doing the reality series on discovery and was really pumped about the bus they were going to reveal the next episode and he showed it to us and signed a bunch of memorabilia praising our hard work just a real stand up guy one of the nicest racers I have met made me a fan for life
