Yo this not just music, this a whole broadway show i'm honestly so amazed. Didn't know music could be THIS expressive, whimsical, beautiful, and chill at the same time. I'm in love.
Then she has a moment of being herself between songs with a big smile on her face and right on the first beat/note of the next song she snaps back to acting and rapping/singing without an obvious cue.
I've watched about ten times and I notice something new each time, it's like watching a good movie and noticing more and more clues each time. Very well crafted!
Danny Lozano I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one! I've dissected this performance and previous ones to find my favorite parts, and enjoy it like new all over again. 😃
I fell in love with my partner to this performance. They were so excited one day proudly showing me all of their favorite tiny desk videos. I vividly remember staring at my partner when “rollercoasters” came on, and I was brought to tears because I knew at that moment I had just fallen in love. We decided to separate recently and as I was driving to work the memory of that song and that special moment came to mind. Not unlike rollercoasters the ride ends but you’ll never regret giving it a chance. Sorry for sharing into the void. I miss and love you Wisdom.

I felt the exact same way but I kind of got the impression that Tank was getting upset with some of the riffs that Jelly was taking. Check this out. Toward the end of the first song, Jelly starts to riff and you can see it in Tanks face that she was getting frustrated and you can even here her say "Sing the Song" to Jelly 5:25 . I didnt catch it the first time around. What do you all think?
Wow. I didnt catch that for as many times as I watched this. I wondered how she knew when to come in and out... They seemed to gel together perfectly... but I guess they even need to communicate during performances.... however, so smooth MOST of us missed it.
It's the whole New Orleans vibe distilled in a single performance, maybe even all of your amazing black culture in a way, the one that made the US shine all around the world, and the one that makes it seems like this country still has a bright future despite all of it's paradoxes and terrible deeds. Tiny desk itself is a breath of fresh air, but this set right here is the posterchild of why it was invented, and why it's still such an institution years later. You can do it, study to be an actor, you don't have to live of it but you'll work on your emotions and you'll be one step closer to the man of a thousand faces, I mean emotions ;)
crushbent same tho. Never heard of them, UA-cam suggests this to me and this is one of the most incredible musical experiences of the last five years for me.
Housemate told me to check it out, spelled out the name. I had no idea what to expect. That was ... I don't reckon I'll ever forget that. Tough to describe other than intensely enjoyable and endlessly memorable.
you know the passion is so raw when Jelly starts shedding a tear, they've rehearsed and played this so many times, but this performance was special for them obviously, they made it... and Tank puts in 17000000000% and the raw emotion she's putting in makes Jelly break even though she's heard the story all those times, that's how you know Tanks emotion is real, Jellys is too. It's a beautiful thing.
Someone once told me that it's impossible to create a new kind of music, new genres, new expressions...that everything has already been created and invented in music. Such a bull***t. Emotion is limitless in its expressiveness. I loved this show. So fresh and intense.
You wanna know how I found this video? I ordered some earphones on Amazon and clicked on anything to test them out and sheesh, its crazy how the universe works. I’m in love with this. Such positive energy.
that's how I test my brand new earphones too the sound engineering of every NPR tiny desk concert is off the chart, can't believe all of them are live singing
I knew what you meant. I'm not black, my family is diverse tho. I agree, absolutely beautiful people. I'm from Detroit, we've got our problems, but I feel like I just belong here. Tank just blew me away. Did you see Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals on NPR TinyDesk? So fabulous, And a band called The Internet! So inspiring and therapeutic, they all blew my mind!
Why are you focusing on the such negativity and only encouraging divisiveness? Do I have to be black to agree that black people are beautiful? You don't know me. I did leave comments praising several fabulous artists including Tank and the Bangas. I've sent Tweets to some, as well, which they liked. I'm sorry that you hold onto so much anger. You should be happy that I'm not a bigot like more than half of this country. If you saw my IG feed, you'd see who am I am and what I'm about, but I don't need your approval. I get plenty of it from others without asking. Take Care.
In my personal top 3 tiny desk concerts I've ever watched. From not knowing who they are to my jaw on the floor pressing replay nonstop. Incredible talent.
This duo reminds me of the talented JILL SCOTT . Tanks performance was great and I can see from their performance that Jill Scott has to be one of their biggest influences.
🙌🏼❤🙏🏻 Yessss this! I'm imagining that right now! May the world get back to this reality soon! Back to the imagination for now. Thanks for the inspiration to go there...
It took me a while to realise why I always cry at the last song. It's because it has nothing to do with rollercoasters. It has everything to do with the real rollercoaster that is life and love and anxiety and bravery
I'll never forget this NPR. It came out during a time when I just moved to North Carolina and my brother was in the hospital. I needed this at that time. I cried my eyes out to this so many times. My brother is no longer here and this makes it bittersweet. Rollercoaster is dedicated to him. I miss you so much Droob!!! *Wipes tears. Thank you Tank & The Bangas.
Listen to the song where they want to then you understand the words if they’re saying as well as if you watch it, you really can view the emotion that they’re singing so sit back play it over and over again and relax it’s a different experience every time you see it 11:15
@@tblub.9270 I believe she’s the lead singer for a funk/jazz band called Galactic & also lead vocalist for an all female brass band called The Original Pinettes. Think she still collabs & contributes with Tank and the bangas just not as a full time member. Hope this helps!
Tank and Jelly together are a dream. So much chemistry. Jelly just oozes charisma. And that voice...I know she’s just background but I hope they never lose her. Tank is pretty perfect, but Jelly adds just the right amount of fun to the group. They have this sort of call and response thing going on that I just love. And she’s gorgeous.
Maybe you would wanna qualify that as a sort of twinsister or mirrorrole... One needs the other, like in life. They are very complementary to eachother, as the band is to the singers and vice versa. That chemistry makes it what is... a unique sensation!
Another example of the creative and amazing talent in New Orleans. I was born and raised in New Orleans, I watched the video with great pride and admiration.
I was in New Orleans for 1 month... That was one of the best experiences in my life. There is something about NOLA that makes it extremely special and beautiful. And then there’s Doreen... I just love love love NOLA.
Same here! I happened on this almost a year ago and it was an unexpected experience that I will never forget. I can't stop coming back to watch over and over... We are Absolutely Amazing!
SMH at the nonsense of the white supremacy logic and rhetoric.... as if Albert's (no offense to Al b/c he does his thing!) flute playing completely outshine and dulls the band Leader, her member selections, her arrangement, her determined sound, her musicality, her delivery, her song writing, her melodic soul fusion, and her Black roots that created ALL genres of music. As if there is not a very easily accessible and long history of non-black artists stealing music made by black people. As if there isn't scores of imperial based evidence that demonstrates the exclusive and unique expressions of creativity that the Black culture have created since the beginning of time and continues to create easily and frequently within every art form or skill set.... LOL! I wonder if that same sentiment is true for the many white bands that have black musicians in it (?)..... I wonder if the presence of that musician discredits the band leader.....huummm Smh and lmao at the idiocracy, insecurity, and denial on full display. Much respect to Tank and her creative vision, and ALL of 'Tha Bangas' she skillfully put together to give us this one-of-a-kind musical experience. Your Black Girl Magic Rocks!
@@demarcdegasol - (1) You're talking to the wrong person....I didn't start the post. (2) It is absolutely nothing wrong with complimenting a Gift that one has, or that a group has. It's the same as if one might compliment the Asian for their Technological contribution. The Lack of acknowledgment from the non-black groups is where the problem is. Because everyone else's Gifts & Talents can be voiced, written in books, memorialized, and otherwise glorified and honored, yet whenever we speak about and praise ours (since they are not done so in this society), then all we get back are detracting comments - like the sad little thing that I addressed in this thread, or disingenuous people like you who claims to appreciate what you see/hear yet elect to Not acknowledge and embrace ALL that which encompasses your admiration. Afterall, if you all would be honest and forthcoming enough to admit and freely speak Truth concerning our Gifts, Talents, Strengths, Contributions, etc..., then we Could simply just Enjoy. But since we live in a world that absolutely Loves to Devalue my group, hide the history of our Excellence and Genius in numerous areas, hold on to manufactured negative exaggerations and stereotypes of who we are, and shame us as a whole for conditions that we are continually Placed in -and sometimes react badly to-, then we will acknowledge and highlight our own Magnificence. Whomever has a problem with that IS The Problem....

Big Daddy Cane's performance was insane as well ..But i agree..I want to see this ensemble live.

Or Jill Scott
what an amazing idea
Screw dying. I’d combust.
There isn't enough days in a lifetime to listen to or watch that enough times to understand that entire performance.
'Rollercoasters' is an achievement for humanity as a whole.
My. God.
ck675 THIS! YES! The best translation I've heard yet!
ck675 Couldn't have said it better! Exactly right!
indeed!
A million likes to that
Yes......it tells everybody's story
these are the kind of musicians that should be winning right now
When I saw this was over 20 minutes long, I had no intention of watching it all; but here I am 23+ minutes later. Loved it
Can you imagine having the superpower of being this emotionally vulnerable in a room full of people?
They are just outstanding, too much talent in those people...

Well said
Her singing voice is amazing, but her spoken word is utterly beautiful and I don't even care much for spoken word. She's got so much spirit.
You can do it, study to be an actor, you don't have to live of it but you'll work on your emotions and you'll be one step closer to the man of a thousand faces, I mean emotions ;)
Every kid that feels odd, weird, or left out should watch this. These ladies are the epitome of not fitting in, fearless, go-getters. Jazzy outcasts!
Mia the outcasts among us are usually the truly cool ones to begin with.✌
Damn. I was gonna comment this.
"What lots of people don't know about New Orleans is there....was...a gigantic theme park". The intro to rollercoasters makes me cry every time.
Who TF are these people?!
I'm so glad I clicked...
crushbent same tho. Never heard of them, UA-cam suggests this to me and this is one of the most incredible musical experiences of the last five years for me.
I've heard the name but never heard them until accidentally clicking. Wow!!!!
Housemate told me to check it out, spelled out the name. I had no idea what to expect. That was ... I don't reckon I'll ever forget that. Tough to describe other than intensely enjoyable and endlessly memorable.
My thoughts EXACTLY !!!
Ikr. I was thinking the same thing. TANK and the BANGERS Have a NEW FAN!!!!!
Jelly's lower register on "Roller Coasters" is EVERYTHING ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Agreed.
Both of their ranges are unreal!!
🐼👌🏾💪🖕🏽

shumbalum she does. seriously
shumbalum Yesssss so much SOUL!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
i feel like she hugged me with her song
I met her today, and she does! Such a sweet spirit!
I'm still crying over Rollercoasters and it becomes more and more relatable every single year
Jelly does such a good job accentuating with her backup vocals!
I'm 👍#100!!! So random; I know, but it still makes me 😊
@@shanec9840 didn't notice my comment got so much love 💜 this is still one of my fave tiny desks
she's so ready for anything tank throws at her, it's amazing
They are those type of performers that recordings do no justice to their live performance.
Michael Young live is wow wow wow!!!!
perfectly said.
That last song WRECKED me. Absolutely untouchable - best Tiny Desk YET!!
Grown Man 42 => GURL I cry every damn time I watch this

wohoww yess ! ❤
still cry every time I listen to the last song :')
I love how Tank disassociates at certain parts of ‘rollercoasters’ as if she’s reliving that moment at Jazz land…so pure.
you know the passion is so raw when Jelly starts shedding a tear, they've rehearsed and played this so many times, but this performance was special for them obviously, they made it... and Tank puts in 17000000000% and the raw emotion she's putting in makes Jelly break even though she's heard the story all those times, that's how you know Tanks emotion is real, Jellys is too. It's a beautiful thing.
Yesssss, THAT is it!! I can feel her remembering! Whew!!! It’s ethereal!
Someone once told me that it's impossible to create a new kind of music, new genres, new expressions...that everything has already been created and invented in music. Such a bull***t. Emotion is limitless in its expressiveness. I loved this show. So fresh and intense.
For me, the best NPR TINY desk 😊
Check out Pak Anderson and The Free Nationals. It's epic!
You wanna know how I found this video? I ordered some earphones on Amazon and clicked on anything to test them out and sheesh, its crazy how the universe works. I’m in love with this. Such positive energy.
They are crazy dope!! I enjoy their sound!!!!!
that's how I test my brand new earphones too
the sound engineering of every NPR tiny desk concert is off the chart, can't believe all of them are live singing
The way she changes her voice! 😍
love it ! she does it so smoothly
IMMACULATE
Yeah, it's something.
I was wondering where it was coming from.
we are a beautiful people
yes WE are
OriginalDrDeLeon I mean black ppl..shaneka gets it
I knew what you meant.
Yes! anderson paak is awesome also..thanks for being so sweet
What the other two?
@@rodox_sk8 for my personal taste, just out of the ones i've listened to so far. I'd say JID and Tobe Nwigwe are the other two. No specific order.
@@PlozProdi haven't even seen tobes found momints awhile ago by chance the guy is amazing as a musician
the musicality, theatricality, and pure artistry just shine from this group. they're having so much fun and i can't wait to follow their journey.
Do you actually think you'll follow their journey? I would +1 this Tank parade
This duo reminds me of the talented JILL SCOTT . Tanks performance was great and I can see from their performance that Jill Scott has to be one of their biggest influences.
Imagine sitting in a dive in New Orleans, sipping a drink, hearing this as the wind blows and carries away your worries and thoughts

that's what I am saying right now!
2024 and I’m still here for this gem💕
And this why New Orleans truly is the home of jazz
"I'd like to do one more song for you, if that's okay."
*sees exactly 10 minutes left*
"Oh, this finna be a story-story."
RIGHT RIGHT!!!
Grown man cry😭😭😭
It took me a while to realise why I always cry at the last song. It's because it has nothing to do with rollercoasters. It has everything to do with the real rollercoaster that is life and love and anxiety and bravery
I straight up cannot listen to the last song most times i play this tiny desk. Too many feels man.
You’re absolutely right. I am bawling 😭
So True!
PEACE & LOVE
7 years and I can without a doubt state their tiny desk is TIMELESS
This needs to be a full Broadway production.

@@tblub.9270 I believe she’s the lead singer for a funk/jazz band called Galactic & also lead vocalist for an all female brass band called The Original Pinettes. Think she still collabs & contributes with Tank and the bangas just not as a full time member. Hope this helps!
@@jacobedwards2772 Oh wow! I did not know that. She’s super talented as well. Thank you!
Sam W exactly their chemistry is nothing short of a spectacle to witness
Sam W yesssssss
Maybe you would wanna qualify that as a sort of twinsister or mirrorrole...
One needs the other, like in life.
They are very complementary to eachother, as the band is to the singers and vice versa. That chemistry makes it what is... a unique sensation!

Another example of the creative and amazing talent in New Orleans. I was born and raised in New Orleans, I watched the video with great pride and admiration.

Same here! I happened on this almost a year ago and it was an unexpected experience that I will never forget. I can't stop coming back to watch over and over... We are Absolutely Amazing!
What about flute player he's clearly not black
I wonder if the presence of that musician discredits the band leader.....huummm
Smh and lmao at the idiocracy, insecurity, and denial on full display.
Much respect to Tank and her creative vision, and ALL of 'Tha Bangas' she skillfully put together to give us this one-of-a-kind musical experience. Your Black Girl Magic Rocks!
@@s.m.7109 why the need to point out race so much, just enjoy
