Frederick the Great was the most enjoyable to me. Pompey was hard to beat though.
Theotian Yarttar yeah, Pompey doesn't need words to beat the other greats and Ivan
pompey ftw
Yeah.. He was was a-head of all of them for me.
Nightmare 43 LMAO
He def one
The way he killed them was the way they died in history
Alexander the Great:poison
Fredrick the great: died while asleep in a chair
Pompey the great: died on the way to a speech
Catherine the great:supposedly died while having sex with a horse
Ivan the terrible:died in the middle of a game of chess
I don't think Catherine died during that, it was a rumor that she had intimate relations with a horse.
She died of a stroke.
+AegonSnow Note the "supposedly"
Nah the enemies of Catherine spread a rumour that she had sex with horses. Thats why you hear her say "that horse story is pile of shit"
Catherine died on the toilet kinda like Elvis, but rumors were that she had sex with horses and ruined her insides so badly that she died from intestinal complications because of it.
its only recently that the horse story was called fake, can you guess why? Give you a hint a female historian said it was a lie spread by sexist men in that time period. The same historian also said that the Hollocaust never happened, that the first person on the moon was actually a russian woman. But the horse story is more than likely true.
Such a shame that almost everyone reacting to this battle don't know shit about people in it.
***** not knowing stuff is fine. Reacting to stuff you know squat about is not, that's all I'm saying. I love ERB's and I haven't even watched about a dozen featuring people I know nothing about - what's the point of it?
There's absolutely nothing to these reactions.
gm I'm subscribed to both of them. Those two and BSH are by far the only ones on youtube whose reactions to ERBs are worth watching
gm he's got a film degree, his reactions to movie-related ERBs are great.
Some people take ERB way more seriously than they should. Just because it has "History" in it's name doesn't mean the series is meant for historical experts. In fact in regards to the historical figures they use, it's usually meant to get people interested in actually looking up people and learning about them.
But besides that, let's not forget that ERB got it's initial boost of fame from Adolf Hitler (the most infamous leader in history, everyone who has taken one year of history class at almost any level knows that name) vs Darth Vader (the biggest character in one of the largest science fiction franchises out there).
And a lot of their fan favorites battles include celebrities and fictional characters just as much as they include historical figures.
BishopS the key words you should pay more attention to are "reacting" and "this battle". What is there to REACT to if you don't know anything at all about the thing you're watching?
PS: you should try reading my comments in here, it's not like you're the first jumping on me with this. I explained why I said what I said pretty clear somewhere in there. Just saying.
History nerd time.
First, Napoleon is French, not Prussian. ;) Frederick the Great is an awesome figure in history, check him out. It would take too long to list everything. (He wasn't a great husband, though. Not horrible, just...neglectful.)
As someone already mentioned, the ones who died, died in the ways that they'd died in history. Alexander was poisoned, Frederick died of a heart attack while napping in a chair, and Pompey was beheaded before he was supposed to make a speech. (Hence why he died before getting any bars in during the rap battle.)
Catherine never abused her men, she just scandalized everyone by fucking a lot of them and being absolutely unapologetic about it. Also, well... she staged a coup against her husband, Tsar Peter III, and he was killed during it, but there was never any proof that she had any part in him being killed, just dethroned. From then on, she never married (though it's rumored she married Potempkin in secret) and instead chose to keep a string of boy toys by her side. And like any aging rich dude, they did seem to get prettier and younger the older she got.
She died of a stroke at a ripe old age, but because of the way people looked down on promiscuous women back in those days, someone started the rumor that she'd died from being crushed by a horse that she tried to fuck, but which had fallen on top of her. As Catherine says in the rap battle, the story is a pile of shit.
Im still salty about the fact Catherine said Romans Prussians and Macedonians are not match for a Russian even though Fredrick the King of Prussia faught off Russia Austria and France ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
All the European powers looked up to Rome and Alexander hence why Russia at one point called itself 3rd Rome and the title Kaiser Tsar comes from Ceaser.
Also the fact that Catherine herself is Prussian......
Well he did have the most Disciplined army in Europe under his command Honestly A Russian Prussian Alliance could have Granted them dominance in eastern Europe
james friel Really I considered Him and Bismark to be equals
+Paul Anthony Catherine was born in Prussia, her parents were Prussian. Sounds like a Prussian to me.
Frederick the Great is a figure history buffs will know more about. You are correct in that most schools don't go deep into European history during the 1700s and on. Most people have no idea that the Holy Roman Empire is NOT the same as the original Roman Empire of Antiquity.
By the by, the guy who Dracula is inspired by is actually named Vlad the Impaler. Look him up. He did some messed up shit.
I was about to mention that, like, no, Ivan the Terrible was NOT the inspiration for Dracula. It was Vlad the Impaler and you're right, he DID do some fucked up shit. The Romanians still considered him a hero though I believe.
Yea and he also kept the turks at bay, so big thanks for that
That's exactly what they said.
No, romanians don't consider him as a hero. Not at all xD
How do you know, are you romanian?
That wasn't "an actress" that was Meghan Tonjes who sang the lyrics as well.
james friel It was sing songy rapping. There wasn't really a melody and it was rhythmic and rhymed. Basically rap.
+Brendan Beckett
it became hip hop
She had one of the best parts in all of ERB because she just sounds professional like she would be on stage.
i like erb when you knew it was erb and it was kind of low quality it seemed better then
@Brendan. Well I think anyone who has even watched just a couple of ERB videos, knows that the "actor/actress" is always the same as the "singer/rapper". So it was pretty weird that these guys did not seem to know that. FFS, they credit who is doing which part at the end of every video.
It is a bit disappointing that you don't get all of the nuances of this battle, because there are more then any other battle They really did a great job on the history aspect of this battle. It's one of my absolute favorites. I know I am a year late to make the recommendation, but if you love GoTs (which I know you do!), look up Ivan the Terrible. The dude is almost cut from the same cloth. He's incredibly, deeply insane. He makes the Mad King look relatively tame by comparison.
U have to do Steven Spielberg vs Alfred Hitchcock
yup
YES!
YES
Continues to ask if it is Napoleon when the Prussian flag is revealed.
Catherine the Great had an epic flow, as did Alexander the Great. Ivan had some pretty good punches and Fredrick the Great was just hilarious. Pompey was there.
Catherine supposedly was crushed to death trying to screw a horse... it's not true but still funny.
The actress and the singer are the same person :D Her name is Meghan Tonjes
+
Lloyd: "what about [...] PRUSSIAN" / Guy: "NAPOLEON???" fml :|
You guys are quickly reaching 100k, good luck!!!!
I love how they arrange those characters fitting to their actual role in history. Ivan started out not really terrible (I think, never learned a lot about him), but he grew prograssively madder, having rage fits and so on and so forth, until he accidentally killed his daughter in law and then his son. So this Ivan starts with a strong verse but than chooses more and more terrible and evil methods to get rid of his opponents.
Alexander was young and powerful, but (probably due to his young age) also a little arrogant and supposedly had a drinking problem. He died undefeated, but very young, so they let Alexander start very strong, fast and aggressive, even giving him more bars until he gets murdered and taken out of the context. There's no doubt, that - had he not been killed, he would have won this whole thing - but he succumbed in a way to his youthful arrogance.
Frederick is more or less a funny and comic relief, wich fits him. Aside from being a ruler and commander, he was also a poet, so there are some funny little quotes about him. I always enjoyed learning about him in history very much, because though it wasn't really funny, there were always some funny sidenotes. While Alexander has very straight forward lines that hit hard, Frederiks are more refined and by default not that easy to understand, if you don't know Frederick the Great. Frederick was wise and he died with 70+ years sleeping in his chair. Different to Alexander he doesn't really fall to Ivans tricks, but kinda robbs Ivan of the possibility to kill him, by taking the chair, but than dying on his own. While Alexander with wheeps for a worthy opponent, Frederick knows he has won, and instead of destroying Ivan even further, choses to rest instead. Other than Alexander, he's finished, he doesn't has anymore to say.
Pompey... I think the most important about him in this rap battle ,is not that he was killed by his supposed allies before a speech, but that he was thoroughly outshined both in the battle and in reality, by the people coming before and after him. He's called 'the great' but if you live with Caesar, (Cicero and Marc Anton in the same era, not to mention Augustus in the next generation)... well, he's not exactly the most important figure of his time, nor the most remembered.
Catherine was the last and concluding the battle. Can't really say much about her, because I never knew much about her, but I liked her straight forwardness. In a way she has the same aggressive, attacking (even insulting) attitude Alexander has, but she's not as young and naive as him, not falling for Ivan's tricks.
This battle was essentially Ivan the Terrible vs all of the Greats
well not ALL of the greats but yeah
Just do Steven Spielberg vs Alfred Hitchcock
"Take it home in boxes. Take it home in cases. If your parents try to stop you, just throw it in their faces!"
-Ivan Ooze, 1995
Every reaction I've watched where guys are reacting they completely neglect Catherine the most badass and impactful tsar considering the time
Cringe Catherine rap? Where?
+PushandillPushback
It doesn't matter how many times you listen to it, that doesn't change the fact that your feelings are not facts. You feel that it is cringy, but it isn't objectively so. Additionally, you're projecting a little. There wasn't anything about girls being better than boys in Catherine's lines. She waged wars in Europe that strengthened Russia, she valued informed leadership and would have hated Ivan the Terrible and the "sick shit" running through his brain. Going on and on, there's nothing about girl power over boys.
You are free to feel how you like, but realize that those are your own feelings, and have nothing to do with the video or the music's message and quality.
+PushandillPushback
You say these things about how well you know what's good or not, but you don't mention why it is or isn't cringy. Do you not like the rhythm? The lyrics? Do you not like wordplay, such as the use of political and mental "unbalance?" Does the sudden caesura after Ivan's rebuttal against Catherine bother you, that she broke the pattern of the battle just as she did in her own rule, mirroring history just as the title of the series suggests? If listening to ERB is the only thing you have going for you, you're not an expert, just an obsessive fanboy.
They didn't put her in the rap because they needed a female. You might have your head too far up your ass to see, but the motif is pitting "the Greats" against "the Terrible." They could have had a legit Pompei verse, but the dude died at his speech; that's not the kind of Great you'd want beside Alexander "gives no fucks about Persian resistance" and Frederick "loves tall boi soldiers."
@@SwordTune And he is sharing his opinion which he has every right to do.
Women were created in labs by the liberal mass media, like global warming, to further their agenda. Just by women existing we are all being force-fed feminazi ideology and being BRAINWASHED. Wake up, sheeple!
React to "The Last Bastion" animated short pls!
do Zeus vs Thor that's one of the best
Yes, yes it is.
ikr I'm a talking wisdom dog I know everything
lmao. That's one of the worst. It's just legos. And why would you want to see them do a reaction video for legos? You must be 8 years old.
+Rob Johnson you do realise rap battles are for the lyrics not the visuals right? Moron
+Asif Yakub They are for both, idiot. ERB wouldn't spend time filming battles with make up and wardrobe if it wasn't. These guys wouldn't be watching the videos if it wasn't. That Lego battle is one of the most disliked videos on ERB. Stupid suggestion.
why nobody know about her and the horse story?
I know right
What's great about ERB is based on reactions people give, you can exactly tell how much someone knows about history
ummmmm no hunny dracula was based off of vlad the impaler
Zeus vs. Thor!
Hell yeah! one of the best
I swear you guys are going to like this one
Hell yeah one of my favorites
i love that rap battle
Mega Flygon! Zeus vs Thor vs Perun (they are Greek, Scandinavian and oldSlavian gods of storm).
God damn why did you guys stop reacting to the battles. Ahh sad days
Hello there Eric, Shane, And Aaron. Hope you guys have a great week.
Oh yes i've been waiting for this...
Man I requested this!!! GREAT!!!
Alexanders bit, is ridiculously amazing. He only needs that tiny bit to take it home and win.
#wrecked
Best ERB since years
I love these ones where they just have fun with history rather than being a proper rap battle.
I subbed!
Please Zeus vs Thor next
This was one of my favorite ones they've done and I enjoyed your reaction. Also the next one you should do is Steven Spielberg vs Alfred Hitchcock or the darth vader and hitler one, they're both good.
,,oblique attacks aint exactly straight" it is funny because he was gay
Also because Fredrick's use of the Oblique Attack is essentially also not straight since it dictated you to throw your main attack at your enemies flank.
Ivan the Terrible is actually Ivan The great - in English language there is no word for Russian adjective that was used to describe Ivan. He was violant but far not as violant as many other rulers and he did many great things by the way - taking into the account the age when he lived
No, Ivan the Terrible was almost always 'Terrible' (which began when Mercury madness began to consume him) you are mistaking that for his father. Who was Ivan III AKA Ivan the Great who freed Muscovy from the Golden Horde which was the ruling Mongol authority in Russia. And got a foundation for which Russia could expand on, which came from Ivan the Terrible who expanded upon it much more and claimed a lot of modern day Russia.
So awesome
ERB: Doc Brown vs. Doctor Who
This is One of my favorite "epic" rap battles.
I watched the directors cut of Alexander the Great multiple times.....I regret nothing!!
"That was like a story (...)"
Yeah, I mean, who knew, considering this is epic rap battles of *history*.
You need to tell me where you got that 'Terminus Steakhouse' T-Shirt! Please!
All these history geeks salty af in the comments lmao, acting as if knowing Frederick the Great is considered general knowledge to people who never studied History. Can almost guarantee you the reason they mistook him for Bonaparte is literally just because of the hat, they're shaped similar and it's a defining feature for Napoleon to people who don't know anything else about him.
Hey Eric, when you go to get your haircut what do you tell your barber/whoever cuts your hair to do?
There's a story about Catherine the Great that says she died when a horse fell on top of her, because it was suspended in the air and she was having sex with it. It's not actually true, which his why she calls it a pile of shit in the battle, but she did have a lot of (human) lovers while alive, so her enemies made up the horse story after her death, to discredit her memory.
Eric and Aaron what are your thoughts about the 4 episode crossover
arrow/flash/legends/supergirl
hey guys, loved the vid as usual. just you so know, the new Overwatch Animated Short "The Last Bastion" is out and its amazing, think you guys would like it

Why did y'all stop doing ERB reactions??
Pompey was such fire that he only needed one bar
Where's that pen at?
This battle was erb's version of the way the greats have died
The woman that played Catherine was the singer for Catherine
Moses vs Santa is sooo funny, y'all need to watch it.
I love the look on Ivan's face as hes poisoning Alexander's drink

George Washington vs. William Wallace
Dracula was based on Count Vlad Dracul...
also known as Vlad the Impaler, like they said.

You guys need to do reaction against Zeus VS Thor it is GREAT
Cathrines enemy told people she hade sex with horses but it was horribly wrong
Are they finally doing Hitler versus Darth Vader wow waited years for this one
If you guys like the raps as the key part then watch Shakespeare vs Dr. Seuss rap battle, you will not regret it
Ah yes... the lesser known flute buster, hailing from Prussia, Germany... 'Napoleon The Not So Great'!
Good lord.
The "saddle" joke was there has been a persistent rumor since her time that she died having sex with a horse. Completely false. But, she was actually well known for being very promiscuous.
read the story Ivan the terrible was not so cruel he killed fewer people than the English Queen Elizabeth I
You guys should do Zeus vs. Thor then Eastern Philosophers vs. Western Philosophers
The actress was the singer
nobody knows that the impaler was not the man dracula was based of... it was the father, dracul
The saddle thing is a reference to the rumor that was spread during Catherine's lifetime that she had sex with a horse
Where's Calvin??
Calvin must of been busy.
hitchock and spielberg one of the best epic rap battles. You shold watch them insted
The saddle joke is in reference to the rumor people spread saying Catherine the great died having sex with a horse

Yall should react to the Zeus v Thor battle
Shaka Zulu vs Julius Caesar is really good
Yall need to watch Einstein vs Hawking

That's her actual voice though
you should do rasputin vs staline (although judging by the many mistakes you made about history I doubt you'll understand all of the references). I know it's because of your education system (too centered on the US)
u guys should do a reaction to martin Luther king vs Gandhi
guys plz do eastern philosophers vs western philosophers
possible GOT spin off shows please
Dunno if anyone has said it already but the funny thing in this Rap Battle is that every Opponent of Ivan died like they really died based on our knowledge.
Alexander died of poising, or atleast that is one of the many theories, another famous one is Typhoid fever.
Friedrich II died in his armchair in his castle in Sanssouci. Napeoleon visited his death place btw. and said he would never come even close to where he is, if Friedrich would have been alive.
Pompey got stabbed to death, so he is the exception here.
People always say that Catherina died because of a horse saddle or something like that, which is completly bullshit hence why she said, "the horse story is a pile of shit"
The Funny thing is that Frederick the Great "Old Fritz" actually "beat" catherine the great :S
All in all this Battle is so great because it has a ton load of historical references
Of course Calvin wasn't there for this one...he was in the video!! ;)
Do Batman vs Sherlock Holmes
