Dear Prashant bhai, thank you very much. You are doing excellent work for small retailers. I am feeling so proud to be associated with you and Definedge. This kind of detailed video series, with such clarity, is truly a masterpiece. The value of these videos far exceeds any worthless paid course. God bless you, sir. ईश्वर आपको इतनी शक्ति दे कि आप अपने अद्भुत कार्य को जारी रख सकें। Thank you 🙏
First of all many thanks to Prashant and his team for taking time out and making this series on momentum investing for the benifit of retail investors 🙏🙏. 9:40 In 5th model (RS and Above D Smart) what is the sorting criteria?? Returns or Volar Score?
For me, Key Takeaways from the Momentum Investing Series are as follows 1. Concept of VOLAR, higher the better 2. Mindset shift about Backtesting: It's a tool not just to know past returns and hit ratio, but it can help to understand the behavior of instruments, patterns, indicators, strategies, etc. In different market phases. 3. Understand and accept the downside of a strategy. I'm following a similar approach, and when the market was sideways and volatile, the win ratio was low, but when the market resumed trend, it rewards well. 4. Clear differentiation in approach for Momentum Investing (Churning frequency-Monthly, Performance Evaluation-Quaterly/half Yearly/yearly basis as we need to give some time to the winners to run and earn for us, Buffer to reduce churning , rebalancing fixed date for equal position sizing, separate books Segment/Sector Wise etc.) AND Momentum Trading (Scan daily or weekly to know stocks participation from a sector and make it a universe for trading sir's and mine favorite continuation patterns) I am grateful to you and the defineedge team ❤️ 🙏🏻 🎉
Prashant sir ..your ubderstanding of the subject and the way you explain is simply incredible ..No offence against anyone but post covid there are so many you tube channels but the kind of content u bring in so well researched nd explained .. Kudos to you nd the Define Edge Team
Sir very good video indeed. Please discuss additional parameters such as CALMAR ratio or maximum drawdown for the various strategies you discussed in this video.
Prashant Sir, Thanks for making it simple for momentum investing. Please help for below questions on momentum investing. 1) Exit criteria in profitable stocks can be maintained with R:R? like 1:2 Minimum by moving stoploss to cost once stock goes in our favour and have moved 1:1 at least 2) If we select volar as filter criteria, I have seen if stock hits 5% stoploss in a day it will hit 10% stoploss too may be on next day. so what should be our exit criteria because some stocks have 20% circuit limits too. 3) please share profit booking and stoploss trailing criteria too in the momentum investing trading.
Stocks will move based on market conditions. Instead of percentage, I suggest some technical criteria for stop-loss. We don't want too much churn here. For trading, 1) Yes, you can do that. 2) Midcaps can easily move 10% - 20% in a single day before bouncing back. 20% - 30% stop with 1:2 RR is fine. 5% stop for front line. Please trade according to your risk appetite, these are just suggestions. There should not be too much churn, so the stop should not be too tight. Regards, Prashant
You have an excellent software. Far ahead of likes of kite and groww. Kindly add a facility for trade journal using CSV excel sheets also. It can be a game changer.
Yes, you can do that. Nevertheless, this method will automatically give weight to sectors that perform well since more stocks in those sectors will appear in the list. However, you can perform a sector analysis and weigh based on that. Regards, Prashant
You can do that through the indicator value table. RZone -> Table -> Indicator Value Table. For this method, however, simply select the condition Price above D-Smart (6-period). Stocks will be filtered based on that condition. Sort stocks based on Volar. Regards, Prashant
Sir, Is this conclusion valid, based on the results of the back testing shown in the video: to prefer condition number 5 (52 week High , retracement of 20% ( or less), Above 200 EMA, RS & DSMART conditions) as the scanner conditon for least churn and most returns? The results show that the return for backtest period was 337.5%, Hit Ratio was 67.19% and Churn was 2.78 per month: this is the best of all the five conditions tested. Thank you for a wonderful teaching series on Momentum Investing.
You can check that in performance based ranking table (PBRT). RZone -> RS Scanner -> PBRT We can add that in same window. I hope people will not find it overwhelming. Regards, Prashant
Thank you for explaining in simple way and also providing software to test in many ways else we have to do lots of excel work to do this strategy , Nifty is outperforming against Nifty GS . Can I start from this month? As markets are at high levels , prices are away from moving averages and prices & breaths are overbought zone.
Your inputs on Portfolio Building by 'Momentum Investment Strategy' are very useful but we as an investor fail to move forward. Can you give a complete example of ' Your Guidance on Portfolio Building' starting from the scratch based on 'you like the parameters' and its churning Weekly or Monthly for last 1 year to see performance as well. Would be very thankful if you can make videos on such detailed topic by keeping Nifty 500 as Bench March for stock selection.
Please check out the first two videos in this series. I have explained it from the beginning. ua-cam.com/video/Kd5moRL9wtY/v-deo.html I will explain again if required. Regards, Prashant
Can you please elaborate on dual momentum. How it can be done in practice. What I understood is that check last month’s nifty 500 performance wrt Nifty GSEC and if nifty 500 is doing better than follow this strategy, else no new entries but only exits in that month. How you can do this (equity vs bonds comparison) in system, that ratio chart etc. is not well understood. Please explain that.
Daily dekh sakte hai lekin naye stocks kafi honge usme. Weekly dekha to bhi chalega. Next week us list ke stocks me trading opportunities dekh sakte hai. Regards, Prashant
Sir please let us know what is the value of box size in P&F charts for calculation. In last video you mentioned value of 1 percent but here in scanner we are using default value of 0.25 percent. Both values are giving few different stocks sir.
Momentum Investing scanner has been updated since the this video, Now if we are selecting Relative momentum then its asking "Please Select System Builder for Relative Momentum" Please let us know what to select here for 9:40 In case of 5th model (RS and Above D Smart)
Take an example of Apollo Hospital. On 3% x 3 DAILY p&f charts , price is in O column. Scan crops up this stock as momentum stock. When stock price On 3% x 3 DAILY p&f charts is in O column, is it wise to enter in this stock and wait for its reversal ?
It is ok to invest in that stock. I recommend D Smart criteria. If stock is above D Smart, it is in uptrend. Column of O is fine. If you want to invest only in stocks in column of X, you can select that condition as well. Regards, Prashant
Dear Prashant Sir, This is a wonderful series which gave me easy to do strategy for Investing in momentum which as a trader is difficult to do as our psychology is always to get out of stock with small losses but later repent to see it grow multifold. I have always been a fan your style of simplifying teaching. Sir if we take above Dsmart in 1% do you think it would be big box size. Thanks
Sir I want to know why there is difference in sharpe return calculation for same period when we use P and F chart (1% box value) versus Candlestick chart?
Thank you for this strategy .. one question : if we start with say 10lakhs of capital for say top 10 stocks .. after 2-3 months can we increase the capital for invested stocks say by additional 5L capital? Or should we buy stocks from next 10-20 list ?
Dear Sir , if we select 1% PF chart on price and on RS as suggested by you it will only consider charts where stock is above 200 EMA on PF 1 % is it ok ?
No, it will consider stocks that are above the 200-EMA on candlestick charts. The condition on P&F and RS will be determined by the strategy you select. For example, if you select the 'Above D smart' condition, then that condition will be checked in the P&F and RS charts. Regards, Prashant
Sir if I use 100% buffer, that means I won't make entry of new entrants as long as the share doesn't go outside the first 40 ranking. Sir am I right? Please comment
Only Monthly churn. I am planning to demonstrate backtesting with stop-loss criteria as well. When the backtesting option is enabled in that scanner section, I will record a video. Regards, Prashant
Sir ji ek option scanner bana sakte hai? Scanner ke undar ye criteria hona chahiye. Open interest ( increase/ decrease) Type ( ce/pe) Percentage change ( increase/decrease) Option ltp( increase/ decrease) Underline price ( increase/ decrease)
Sir, Q1. SL could be placed on momentum investment stocks on 1% EOD D SMART right? Q2. On one hand you said if you follow dual momentum and nifty is underperforming bonds, we will park money in liquid bees on exited stocks on other hand you are saying bear market is not a problem for this strategy! New OP stocks will enter in place of underperforming stocks. Please clarify as if we are parking money in liquid bees during bear equity market, how OP stocks will replace UP stocks?
The backtesting facility will be included in this scanner as well. Then you can check for the period you want. It is likely that there will be down years, but this method is expected to perform well over time. Regards, Prashant
I would like to add that by default stocks in this scanner are NOT arranged as per returns of last 252 days. Kindly click on returns tab before making any investment decision.
Yes, because conditions are qualified. Stock went up 30% can also go up further. With this method, we are not in the business of predicting. Its a 'Buy and Hold Momentum' method.
What will happen to your Buy and Hold stocks that you have invested in? Compare this with that. Here, there is a method to exit and rebalance. Chances are bright that the portfolio with perform over a period.
Momentum stocks can experience sharp reversals, where prices suddenly move in the opposite direction. Such reversals can be triggered by changes in market sentiment. This can happen frequently in Nifty 500. As far as stock return criteria is concerned, chase past performance and ignore fundamental valuations, leading to poor investment decisions. What is your frank opinion? Momentum investing typically performs well in trending markets but can struggle during periods of consolidation or market downturns. At present Nifty 500 is in uptrend. If something goes wrong structurally then Nifty 500 may nose dive. In your lectures, we are going to churn the portfolio with say 100% buffer. Is this only way which represents what I call as a willingness to adapt to changing market environments?
This method of momentum investing will this method of momentum investing will pick best performing stocks in momentum. Your stocks will be switched based on market conditions. For adapting to market conditions, I recommend dual momentum. Plot the Nifty 500 to Nifty GS composite index ratio chart. If it is outperforming, then continue with the method. If it is not, then park money in liquid bees until the next rebalancing date arrives. This way, you will invest in a fixed income instrument when stocks are not performing. pick best performing stocks in momentum. Your stocks will be switched based on market conditions. You can use Radar's platform to filter fundamentally sound companies and use that group for momentum investing.

Sir please let us know what is the value of box size in P&F charts for calculation. In last video you mentioned value of 1 percent but here in scanner we are using default value of 0.25 percent. Both values are giving few different stocks sir.
Momentum Investing scanner has been updated since the this video,

"Please Select System Builder for Relative Momentum"
Please let us know what to select here for 9:40 In case of 5th model (RS and Above D Smart)

I would like to add that by default stocks in this scanner are NOT arranged as per returns of last 252 days. Kindly click on returns tab before making any investment decision.
Yes. To find the first 20 (or any number that you desire) stocks, you must sort the stocks based on Return or Volar.

If I buy Stock on Every 1st date of month its already moved 30% in last 30 days
then we buy or not buy
Yes, because conditions are qualified. Stock went up 30% can also go up further. With this method, we are not in the business of predicting. Its a 'Buy and Hold Momentum' method.
What will happen if nifty 500 nose dive for year or two?
