Michael did write his own music. I think he started writing songs at 13. It was stated that he wrote 150+ of his songs, which basically means most of them.
Michael is also a very talented beat boxer. You don't really have to know an instrument if you can make a beat of a song using your mouth. And he did that many times, incorporating his beatboxing into songs to make it the main beat you hear-Prince doesn't do that now does he?...So what you said is completely irrelevant.

That thing he does with putting his fingers into the air to signal to the band how many breaks they had to do. That according to the members of The Revolution was the most difficult thing ever because you needed to be on your toes every frigging second.
In fact, a year later, after Prince disbanded The Revolution and started The New Power Generation, there was an instance of the band about to get on stage for their very first show and bass player Levi Seacer Jr. going "Good luck everybody!" But just after he said it, Prince shot him a pissed off glare and shouted "HAVEN'T I WORKED YOU GUYS HARD ENOUGH ALREADY?"
At which the others went "Yeah you worked us to death!" recalling daily rehearsals of eight hours for months on end. At which Prince continued "SO YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S NO LUCK INVOLVED IN GETTING THIS SHOW TO GO RIGHT!"
You guys missed out seeing the 80s Prince. He pushed the envelope & he could get away with it. His stuff was sexy, sensual & dirty & I LOVED it 😝
Prince shows were not comparable to any you've ever seen. And he had so many songs to do most of his shows were damn near 3 hrs long. He never had an opening act either💜👑

@@cryptozoomauler5505 he must have catered that according to the area he was playing in. Here in the DC area I nnever saw any opening acts foe Prince. I attended shows in the late 80s up until his next to last tour. At any rate I feel lucky to have seen the greatness 🥂

Head is the song that made his original piano player Gayle Chapman to quit. She said, "I don't mind doing it but I don't want to sing about it." Maybe the BEST thing that happened to Prince as that lead to Lisa joining and she brought Wendy!

Prince was too cool, and definitely got the ladies excited. Prince could also play all the instruments and I've seen live shows on UA-cam where he is playing bass and drums keyboards and tha magical guitar 🎸 playing.
A unique talent that many others have tried to imitate but have fallen short. A true musical genius. A modern day Mozart. Gone too soon. GOAT !!!!
