The Laz dialect of Atina-Pazar has a very strong influence from Greek in terms of vocabulary and grammar. Other Laz people called them "Khorumi" which means "Byzantine Greeks". The costal area of Lazistan (east of Rize to Sarpi Georgia) had a numerous Greek settlements that got assimilated by the Laz speakers who lived in the interior like the historical scholar Anthony Bryer mentions. For instance the Laz people from Pazar use the Greek words "ela, duliya, horoni, moro mu" and many more.

Wrong, this language isn't influenced by Turkish or Arabic, nor are other Kartvelian languages influenced by them, only some borrowed words and vice versa (Trust me there's more Georgian words in Turkish than you'd think) Modern Laz is influenced by Turkish only in terms of pronunciation, they started to soften the rough consonants. here it's actually quite good Laz, probably Xopa Lazuri dialect, which is closer to Georgian both in words and pronunciation and have the original language better kept.

The Ottomans fought for three centuries to destroy the Christian-Georgian consciousness of the Laz people.[29] Due to the Ottoman Islamization policy, throughout of seventeenth century Lazs gradually converted to Islam. As the Ottomans consolidated their rule, the Millet system was brought to the newly conquered territories. Local orthodox inhabitants, once subordinated to the Georgian Orthodox Church, had to obey Patriarchate of Constantinople,[30] thus gradually becoming Greeks, the process known as Hellenization of Laz people.[30] Lazs who were under the control of Constantinople, soon lost their language and self-identity as they became Greeks and learned Greek,[31] especially Pontic dialect of Greek language, although native language was preserved by Lazs who had become Muslims. In the middle of the seventeen century, several governors of Tunis, who bore the title of Dey were Laz origin, such as: Muhammad Laz (1647-1653), Mustafa Laz (1653-1665) and Ali Laz (1673).

This silly debate over the linguistic naming should be over. English and Swedish are Germanic languages but it doesn't mean English and Swedes are Germans. Likewise, Georgian and Laz are part of Kartvelian languages but doesn't necessarily mean Laz and Georgians are the same. If you're Laz and don't identify yourself as a Georgian, that's fine, you don't need to argue with language classification. Truth be told, Laz never really participated in the process of forming Georgian nation so I'm not surprised Laz in Turkey oppose any alignments with Georgians because of their own idea or Turkish political influences. You can't force someone be something if they don't want to, that's the bottom line. Just mind your own identity, local problems of assimilation and respect linguists who do their job instead of diving deep into this socio-political nonsense.

@@ozanbayrak562 not linguistically but by dialects. since end of 17th century yes coasts till Poti was controlled by Ottomans, but before it was controlled by Georgia, also in 18th century Imereti started liberating territories and started by Kutaisi, but I'm not talking about that. I mean before like 300 years ago, Xopa was always in Georgia, even when there was Trebizond empire (which was also created by Georgia and under influence of Georgian kings) , Byzantine empire and so on, Xopa was always in borders of Georgia, unlike Rize which was played between the Greek and Georgians at different periods of time. While for the last time Xopa was in Artvin region of Adjara autonomic republic of Georgia in 1918-1921. What I'm saying is that historically while Lazs of Rize or even Trabzon in Kaldea were kinda outside Georgia like Austria is for Germany, Lazs of Xopa were always Georgian Lazs. even phonetically and by common words Xopuri dialect of Laz is closer to Georgian than for example Atinuri dialect and that is also why Xopuri dialect is more similar to Megrelian language also.

Ajara, Argueti, most of Klarjeti and modern Racha-Imereti was at least partly inhabited by Georgians, if not fully. No one can claim the if the ruling dynasty was Laz-Mengrelian or Georgian, but definitely 3000 to 1500 years ago, there would not have been big difference in Laz-Megrelian and Georgian as it is now. So, proposition that Colchis was not Georgian, cannot be true. It was a Kartvelian State for sure, wich incorporated Laz-Megrelian and Kartvelian peoples.
Imagine liek that, "The Kingdom of Georgians" originaly a Tao-Klarjeti kingdom was also like that, it incorporated Georgians and Laz as well. Likewise, Kingdom of Abkhazia incorporated Georgians, Svans and Mengrelians. Could you say that those kingdoms were not Laz, or were not Georgian Kingdoms? This kind of separation in that case has no sense.
