- Ben Whishaw seems to love taking on iconic characters - from Q to Paddington and now Michael Banks.
He and Emily Mortimer are playing a grown up Jane and Michael Banks in Mary Poppins Returns - a sequel to the original movie.
They sat down with our reporter Lydia Batham to the talk about the surrealness of being in a big Disney movie, what makes them happy cry, how people don't recognise Ben Whishaw's voice and what their party tricks are.

Ben went to my school (before I was there!) and we are all so proud of him back here!
Ben looked great in this.
This is so ironic because Emily Mortimer is also playing Mrs brown in the new movie
If I close my eyes I can hear Paddington answering these questions
Terrible interviewer
yeah, she seems nice but those were terrible questions, yikes !
Well, I am disappointed he is not a well cast Michael Banks... at all! Could he be more different to Matthew Garber? Come on, Rob Marshall... or whoever did the audition process!
I actually liked his performance a lot. It's hard to portray someone who loves his children while in a personal crisis and I thought he did that. Matthew Garber was only 7 or 8 when he played the young Michael Banks. Who knows what his character would have been like 25 years later?
@@charleshoxsey9183 I respect your opinion and I didn't dislike Ben's performance myself, either. The point is I think he shouldn't have been chosen in the first place, not if we want things to make a bit more of sense. Besides, we do know that really red-haired people with a freckled face like the late Michael Garber keep being red-haired throughout their lives. Hair colour aside, I don't see a grown-up Michael Banks in Ben Wishaw either. Their face is so different. And notice that I'm only saying this about Ben Wishaw, as I consider the rest of the cast more than fine. Emily Blunt, for instance, cannot be mistaken for Julie Andrews, but she doesn't have an specific physical feature that makes you go: wait a minute, Mary Poppins is not like her!
@@JamieZarrr Thank you so much for replying! I thought about what you wrote and I definitely see your point.
@@charleshoxsey9183 the boy who plays Michael Banks in the old movie died a few years later after falling seriously ill.... :(

Never seen the original, *but* - I loved Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks.
Ben Whishaw as Uriah Heep, on the other hand………is just, *WHY?*
