    I bought a 2020 Allez Base two years ago based on this video. 5000 miles, 300000ft+ feet gain later and the bike still rides and looks brand new. I’ve been through a couple of derailleurs, chains, and brake calipers (all Claris now) and the wheel set are Hunt Aero Superduras, which were the best upgrade so far.
    I really wanted 105 11 sp gearing originally, so I’m thinking about upgrading it with 105 components eventually. Part of me still wants disk brakes and a carbon frame however, so I may eventually just sell it and buy a Tarmac instead. Still, the 8-speed Claris R2000 has been a reliable workhorse and I have zero complains about it. Other riders in my group are still amazed that my bike is 8-speed, given that I’m still one of the stronger sprinters in my group.

    In 2017, I had a Walmart road bike called "GMC Denali" it had a lot of stickers (which I removed), Shimano tourney group set (triple crank) and weighed a ton, but I love that bike. Without it, I might not have gotten into cycling. At the time I didn't know anything about road bikes, I had to start somewhere.

      If the bike is getting you from A to B, doesn't break down, it is doing its job as advertised.
      The high end bikes are a sheer luxury, nice but not required + you worry more about it being vandalised or stolen.

      @@waynosfotos True. I was just sharing my entry into cycling. For some people this bike is all they need. It also depends on what you want your cycling experience to be. Okay, Specialized has upped their entry-level frame game. Those welds are acceptable. That's no budget frame. Those look like Made In USA CAAD welds. That's a nice looking cockpit too. Remember, the original Allez E5 frames were the stuff back in the day and were crit races favorites besides the CAADs.
    And I'll take those square taper cranks over BB30 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I like how the rear brake is "in-line" with the frame. That has to make for some really efficient braking.
    And yes, a $1000 bike is worth it IF the rider doesn't do any permanent upgrades to it. Upgrade the pedals, bar, stem, saddle, tires & wheelset, all stuff that can be transferred to an upgrade-frameset, and that way, all that money invested stays with the owner. Or, just ride it into the ground and keep it as a bad weather ride when they get a nicer bike.
    Think about it, if they added some SPD-SL's and a set of ICAN Aero 50's, for very little money, they would have a pretty decent rig for about $1600 or so. I loath dropped seat stays, but I have to give it to Specialized, they made it work here.

    • @arewestilldoingphrasing6490
      @arewestilldoingphrasing6490 Рік тому

      Specialized sizing is based on height so 175 to 183cm they recommend a 56. If you have shorter arms and or torso then go down a size and if your arms and or torso are long than try up a size.
      I have a 72cm inseam but at 177cm tall and fit on a 56cm. My arms are longer than avg so I could size up to a 58cm despite being shorter than the recommended height.
      However other brands like cannondale are a little better at sizing and go based on inseam. With a 72cm inseam I would fit on a small cannondale but bc of my long arms I fit perfectly on a med (54cm) cannondale bike and a 56cm is a little too long for me on Cannondale.

    This bike was really easy to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

      @@Demon09-_- agreed. I remember a few years ago bikes nearing $1k at the very least had Sora. Those were still a dream to me cause I never thought I’d spend that much money for a bike (was still riding cheap mongooses). Fast forward to last year and I had no choice but to fork over that $1k for this bike, or just never get into road bikes. Should I have waited for something good to pop up on the used market? Probably. Might have gotten something with Sora or Tiagra for the same amount. But its a sacrifice I’m happy to have made, because this is the best riding bike I’ve ever owned

      @@Demon09-_- very true, and I don’t see them going down anytime soon, as long as people keep paying that extra cash. However, I still think the $1k I paid for this bike was well worth it, because I also paid for the lovely shop experience of talking to someone who knows bikes and recommended this as my first roadie. Oh, and I can’t forget the fact that, since I am about average height for a male, the size of bike I ride (56cm) is extremely hard to find. I remember having to call quite a few shops to see if they had entry level road bikes in 56cm, and most shops either had an entry level road bike on the floor, a size 56cm road bike on the floor, or neither. Was mostly high end bikes way out of my budget. Everytime I look at/ride my basic as hell allez, I remember how lucky I am to even have found it and not have to wait for hellish back order wait times.
