Hey guys, thank you for watching! Just wanted to clarify a couple points: - The wheels are Fifteen52 Traverse MX wheels (here's where to find them, if you're interested): parts.vw.com/p/Volkswagen_2021_Atlas/17x8-Traverse-MX-wheels-by-fifteen52-----Radiant-Silver/94733613/3CN071497AA7W.html - You can get the pieces to the Basecamp accessory package through your VW dealer, if you'd prefer that over ordering the pieces online. - The Basecamp package is not compatible with the *R-Line* (not R Type or Type R, sorry for any confusion!), as the R-Line is also a body appearance package. - The Basecamp accessory kit is also only compatible with Atlas models that have a tow hitch.
Was not expecting this to be shown in Moab on your trip to view the Jeeps. A bonus content! Interesting, yet as stated, overly priced and overly stated name implied. And it is a heck of a coincidence that you referenced your trailer, was just thinking about that thing 2 videos ago. Glad you are still using it. :)
I worked for a VW dealership last summer. The base camp appearance package is just that... an appearance package. The Atlas is a very good road trip crossover overall. Super comfortable and well laid out. Try the 2.0. Here in Colorado, I prefer the 2.0 overall which surprised me for the size of the vehicle.
I know you guys don't have the best reputation with subaru, but I really hope they give you an outback wilderness model to check out. I'd love to see your review on that. Or maybe you can get someone to lend you one
Oh yeah, I remember the days of the Touraeg alright. That was the first SUV I fell in love with. One of those models had a v12 engine with almost a thousand lb ft of torque OMG! Those were the days. They still have the Touareg in Europe but I think the v6 is the largest engine you can get with it. A damned shame... It takes away a lot of the luxury not being able to just waft away, even if you're overtaking some truck uphill.
Have a 2019 (without the basecamp package) and was also very surprised how easy towing a smaller trailer was. Really impressed me. I would agree though it is not an offroad vehicle. Maybe some slightly rough dirt roads and that's about it.
My wife had one for about a week as a rental. My take on it (and hers) was kinda, meh. It was fine, but just really blah. Interior seemed huge, however. Our Highlander isn't very exciting either, but at 161k has had zero issues other than replacing normal wear items. Something to be said about that peace of mind, that it just works.
Geez, come on guys do a little research before hitting that record button. The are called fifteen 52’s which is a very well known company. Tisk tisk tisk.
Great video!! But Nathen sounded like he was running on ten cups of coffee lol 😂 been a big fan of VW vehicles and love the adventure models. Hells Revenge???
We vw atlas white two set of tirres 18 inch winter tire and 20 inch 4 season tire . white the 20 inch the car is not comfortable and the acceleration is horable
Others yes! But not the Atlas. I would love to see the 4Runner, Tacoma, Colorado ZR2, the new Frontier, Ridgeline, all full size Trucks and some others. But I have seen some Atlas out here cos we do not have the 25 years rule.
I would like to remind the viewers that you have already tested the Atlas against the Nissan Pathfinder where the Atlas passed your 3 tests and the pathfinder failed on its 3 challenge test
The 2021 VW Atlas Basecamp towing a 2021 Airstream Basecamp 20 X would be interesting there is VW Atlas with Audi Looking design testing in Europe its most like a bigger 7 seat Audi Q9 as there is BMW X7 & Mercedes GLS as the Audi Q7 is more of a BMW X5 car size Audi would need a bigger Crossover too
This is probably the oddest video I have ever seen you do. Base camp implies over landing, sleeping, cooking ect. And what you get is a badge and then you have to buy rims??????? WEIRD
Only thing worth buying as an add-on to Atlas is the 17 inch rims and all terrain tires. Real skid plates would be worth it if you are really going off road a lot. Would also need a lift kit installed- and these probably would affect stock calibration from stock wheels/tires. Seems the faux-skid plates package is useless- and also decreases ground clearance. The actual stock Atlas SEL is a great car though with decent power, great digital dash with map, great Fender stereo on premium model, decent ground clearance, and a 4Motion system that has practical use off road....
This vehicle is dead in the water before they've even released them. The wheels and tires are amazing, but nobody is going to purchase this because of that customer buying experience.
Yikes, that looks like a low rider. VW and Porsche make SUVs with air suspension and high ground clearance, right? Touareg and Cayenne? Might be better for Moab...
People that have decent eye site. Subaru station wagons are fugly. Only the CrossTrek looks decent as a smaller hatchback & that doesn’t compete with the Atlas. Not all of us want to be forced to live with the anemic powertrain & ugly design philosophy of Japanese vehicles.

Good to see Nathan enjoying what he does again. I don’t think Hyundai Elantra’s are what gets his motor going 😂

Are you OK Nathan? Looks like you're having trouble walking. Take care of yourself buddy, you're one of the best and we don't wanna loose ya!
That's right, Tommi! Love it when you keep it real. Great job.

Decent looking SUV & I’m not usually a fan of foreign trucks/SUVs. Price seems fair for what you get too.
Nothing more than a collector's item for VW guys in 50 years.
The still make the VR6?! I remember when they used that engine in the golf and Corrado
Those tires look huge on the atlas.
Geez, come on guys do a little research before hitting that record button. The are called fifteen 52’s which is a very well known company. Tisk tisk tisk.
Not to mention it comes with an undercarriage skid plate. Although it may be a plastic, it’s under most of the vehicle which protects quite a bit.
I just installed the very same wheels on my Atlas with Falken Wild Peak AT3 tires. The atlas went from wearing hi heels 👠 to hiking boots!
What size tires, James? I want to add the beefier tires but I don't want to lift the vehicle, because I feel like that will open a can of worms.
@@RobertHolguin 245/70/17. Hope this helps. I love the tires.
There is a basecamp for sale at my dealsership right now, but good to know that's the reason!
Great video!! But Nathen sounded like he was running on ten cups of coffee lol 😂 been a big fan of VW vehicles and love the adventure models. Hells Revenge???
The wheels aren't 52's. The brand is fifteen52. They use the 52 as their center caps though.
Soooo the base camp package is a set of wheels and badges?
We vw atlas white two set of tirres 18 inch winter tire and 20 inch 4 season tire . white the 20 inch the car is not comfortable and the acceleration is horable
I really enjoy your channel!Would love to see the Atlas, and a bunch of other vehicles you have, here in Europe.👍👍👍😎

VW needs to work on its BASE level horsepower powertrains which has been outclassed by the competition. An update is already overdue.
I would like to remind the viewers that you have already tested the Atlas against the Nissan Pathfinder where the Atlas passed your 3 tests and the pathfinder failed on its 3 challenge test
Looks a lot like a older Grand Cherokee...?!

Touregs are available in Canada. You Canada and Europe are not the same, right?
still, it performed better than subaru outback on your other test?
Did I miss it or did he not mention what size the wheels are ?
I'd like to see the same comparison with the new Explorer
peep the TRX in back o.o
what campsite is this?
This is probably the oddest video I have ever seen you do. Base camp implies over landing, sleeping, cooking ect. And what you get is a badge and then you have to buy rims??????? WEIRD
It's like they had to do some kind of review of it since VW lent them the presser.
@@donleamon8653 Fair enough, don't bite the hand that loans you a car
Please stay tuned we have a full review coming over at TFLcar this weekend.
@@TFLnow I am always staying tuned. lol
I’d consider this thing if it was a diesel and more off-road worthy.
So a Touareg?
@@davidpackphoto yeah from 15 years ago when they still made good Touaregs.
It looks like it is fairly competitive for the money in its class and yes that sadly means plastic. Lol
April Fools Right! So the only upgrades are the wheels and tires? And the badge?
These basecamps are for sale here fully equipped and lifted for $58k. Huge unreliable beasts that look like German tanks
Im sorry but you can't compare a Touareg to any Atlas! Ill stick to my Touareg anyway.
Touareg can tow way more and has way more horsepower. Why didn’t they just keep that and not build the Atlas!

The fact that Roman has actually called VW "VolTswagen" is funny now that they wanted to rename the brand
Subaru Ascent for the WIN !
The Ascent is among the uglier station wagons on the market - hideous.
@@krasnaludek298 opinion don’t count, get lost.

Man....VW could f*ck up a wet dream!....parts catalog? Jeeeeezzzzzzzz
It should be a trim level, the way Volkswagen is doing this is going to guarantee their failure
People can't seem to get enough plastic.
Yikes, that looks like a low rider. VW and Porsche make SUVs with air suspension and high ground clearance, right? Touareg and Cayenne? Might be better for Moab...
So there's no such thing as a Base Camp pkg you just dress up your vw with bits from the parts counter 😂🤣🤦
VW's break all the time on the road so why would you take one offroad?
As far as the car....... That's not even a good mall crawler!
Definitely an appearance package, not an off road vehicle. Two words: plastic oil pan. Two more words: no skid plates. Final two words: too expensive.
You'd be an idiot to buy this over a 4runner if you really wanted to go off road at all.
Who would buy this when you could just get the Subaru Outback Wilderness from the factory?
People that have decent eye site. Subaru station wagons are fugly. Only the CrossTrek looks decent as a smaller hatchback & that doesn’t compete with the Atlas. Not all of us want to be forced to live with the anemic powertrain & ugly design philosophy of Japanese vehicles.
