I'm conflicted. Because as always you did an amazing job. And the horns on this sound amazing. But isn't this whole album about the singer's mom passing away? i feel like maybe a different song/album by them might have been a better choice. Or maybe don't do the normal outro. It felt really disconnected.
@Renaldo Matadeen oh that's awesome. Yeah, I love their music, and they certainly have helped me process my own feelings over the years. I was just thinking out loud and impressing too much of my person feelings on them. Probably should have just kept it to myself. Thanks for letting me know, I wasn't aware.
From a artistic pov, I think there would’ve been a more appropriate take on the cover as well since the song is essentially a dirge. Maybe slow it down a bit and drop away from the standard ska bpm and make it more in line with a New Orleans style funeral march.
Have you ever listened to ska music before? Like actually listened to lyrics? Bands make music on heavy topics all the time. And musically speaking, this isn’t even happy sounding. I specifically chose to model this cover after the best of the worst/dissidente with skacore vibes to fit the subject matter a lot better, and leaned into the skacore style rather then a more upbeat/happy sounding ska style to match the vocal style. The original song actually uses less dissonance on half these chords so from a theory standpoint those have “happier” sounding chords lol
Do you know what a dirge is? The original is nowhere near a dirge. The bpm of my cover is LITERALLY the same as the original lol
@@SkaTuneNetwork if you're replying to my comment, I never said that ska had to be happy or upbeat. To me it just felt weird to take someone else's song about their mother passing away. I mentioned that maybe the outro song you have on all of your videos could have been skipped. felt kind of flippant. but like i mentioned in response to Renaldo Matadeen i am probably projecting. It also sounds like maybe the singer has a positive stance on things like this, that i didn't know about. like i said before, i probably shouldn't have said anything. i should have just liked the video and kept my thought to myself. wasn't trying to, like, "cancel" you or anything. i love your stuff and we all make mistakes.
