Translation for Beau de jour is not "a beautiful day" which would be "une belle journée". It is a very strange name for a french because it doesn't mean anything really, something like "beautiful at day". It may be about an old movie "belle de jour" about a women, call-girl at night. So here we have the masculine of "belle" "beau", so maybe a man selling his body. It's Tom Ford after all!
I now know why this gentlemanly Master of olfactory review is called “A.C.”- it stands for Absolute Class and Astonishing Craft. Your dexterity when it comes to choice, description, and presentation of Perfumery sir is not only a hidden gem but an esoteric masterpiece of experience. Hat’s off to you! And keep up the impeccable work sir.
My good man you are more than deserving of the gratitude! You are truly delivering value to all of us . To give you a specific example - I recently watched your older review of Valentino Uomo Noir Absolu, and in this review, you defined it as the best designer release of 2017.... And you were/are absolutely right...I finally received my package last night from Harrod’s (it was very hard to find and deliver to the States) but when I first smelled it I was flabbergasted... the Fragrance was just like you described. extremely timeless, distinguished, elegant, and unique. And yes I do slightly pick up on the hints of the caramel coconut in the smell (not the crepe from the Philippines just the coconut). Now onwards to the 2012 version of Dior Eau Sauvage. Although it will be challenging for me to acquire now I am very much looking forward to finding and obtaining it. Thank you again sir! From a true fan 😃
I bought it two days ago. By now, I can already say that this is one of my favourite barbershop fragrances. Longevity was superb yesterday (14 hours!). I smell it less obvious on myself today, but it's still there. 9 out of 10 for me. Great review, sir!
No lie I smelled this today and thought, “No way women like this scent.” But once I got to the dry down….oh yeah! Smooth patchouli and lavender that just smells so natural. And it’s minty too. An acquired taste yes, but very gentlemanly.
Indeed! i quite enjoyed it myself bar the opening which reminded me of a few scents I mentioned. Great offering from TF nonetheless. Thanks for watching :)
Zino by Davidoff (patchouli first, then lavender) Beau de Jour (lavender first, then patchouli). I own both and actually prefer the Davidoff because it is smoother/creamier.
This is my favorite fragrance and I have lots and lots of them. I find this to be stunning and I myself do not find it to be redundant at all. Infact the allure for me is that it doesn't smell like anything else out there.
I think it mean the 'beautiful man of the day;' but I'm glad you reviewed the clone to Zino Davidoff, jk, (I just wish to spend lesser); but thanks; I love your channel, everytime you say' Fellas!' it just makes my day...oh I own Azzaro PH, might be nice to layer.
Hi AC sir , lovely explanation as always :) I am really liking it , obviously I didn't smell the PB version, but this signature version is excellent Fougere - Oriental as you described. Mint basil Green / Fresh , Little spicy along with rosemary , Geranium oakmoss patchouli gives keeps it little damp and earthy and also I am getting incense-y/smoky touch from middle till dry down and that might be because patchouli-Amber Oakmoss combo , you can correct me If I am wrong. Overall I am getting a feeling of forest after last night rain on a slightly sunny day , so getting the dampness weather is still not bright so can enjoy the beauty of pure washed greens.
I quite like your analysis Tanmoy, and yeah the signature line BdJ is quite wonderful as well. Please try and sample the PB line as well if you get a chance.
Love this scent. I have a decant that I use at work. But speaking about familiarity AC, do you know what came to my mind? When I was a kid back in the 80's my dad used to buy English Lavender talcum powder and the soap from the same brand. Smelling that bar of soap right out of the wrapper is the first thing that came to mind.
I've been tempted to try this one, but I've never been a big fan of barbershop scents! About as close as I got to liking one is The Tragedy of Lord George by Penhaligon's. That one is spectacular! Great review as always my friend!
Taking time off from busy-ness to applaud review. I tried Beau Pr Blend a while back: powerful lotta lavender as described for sure. Great to hear sig line retained most or near all of the wow performance. Shout out for that vintage tuscany bottle - my fav (and only lol) old-school 80s style collection gem. Really like Beau but mentioned sharp lavender and patchouli predilection has me tempted to hunt recently sampled Davidoff Zino instead ha ha. Liking the content as always though been busy as explative.
Had a sample of this, really enjoyed the scent. Been debating about acquiring it. I did pick up the old tin can YSL Rive Gauche. Waiting for it to arrive.
Smells Good yes sir! Was actually looking to get a 30ml of Beau de Jour, but then this popped up from a friend of mine. $/ml was coming out cheaper with RG vs BdJ, so why not. Never smelled it before, let’s see what it’s all about.
This is in my "trying to let it grow on me phase". I really hope it does. I'm a bit off-put, as you mention, by the familiarity, plus the nuclear level herbal blast. I definitely don't wanna smell like my spice cabinet. I might even consider using a roller ball to apply this. Though this is clearly fine quality, my brain has a huge stock of memories (for good or for bad) created in the 90s associated with the fragrance opening. I wanna give it more of a chance after watching your review. 😎 As always amazing reviews and thank you.
Great review AC! I mostly agree with your assessment of this one. I love the opening and the mids and I definitely get the Grand Soir comparison at the end. It’s a fantastic scent. However for me, off my skin I do have one small gripe with it and that is that it evolves far too quickly! I often find by the 2hr mark I’m just left with the basenotes with the amber staying for a very long time, not a bad thing! I just wish that the mids lasted a lot longer. All the best!
hi thank you for this amazing video I really appreciate your analysis! if you would oblige me I have several questions between this fragrance and another fragrance which you reviewed not so long ago. Could you please tell me: Which do you prefer between this and Gravitas Pour Homme? Which one is a better scent? Which fragrance is crafted better? Which one performes better? Which one do you think would garner more compliments? Many many thanks!
Y'ello! I've tried it like 4 times so far, and I keep coming back to it and smelling it and smelling it, but I still kind of don't get it. I mean I like it, but it is very generic barbershop fragrance. Now, I'm more on the floral side of fragrances, also exploring the Frederic Malle line... Musc Ravageur & Carnal Flower so far have stood up to my nose. Trying to reach the "Portrait of a lady" level, but still too much for my nose. Enjoyed it as always! Stay safe, Stoyan
@@ACSmellsGood yes I found it after I wrote the comment ofcourse! I was disappointed that Sartorial didn't make the cut...I liked the juice so ordered a bottle. What's your take on it?

I agree with your point, TFs signature line is value for money. I have to start shaving to wear such fragrances lol. I'll try this one soon. Stay safe sir 🙏
The bottle and juice colour reminds me of EAU SAUVAGE... Does it smell like EAU SAUVAGE or different? Plz let me know sir... Never stop introducing us to quality fragrances, as you do always🤝👌👍🏼
This has become one of my top 3 fragrances of all time. Thanks for the recommendation ♥ I have tried looking for similar fragrances: tried Pasha, Dior Eau Sauvage. Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance.
So nice to hear that. This is exactly the style of perfumery that needs to be revived. One I would highly recommend would be Zino by Davidoff and the others would be Lalique pour Home EDP, Guerlain Heritage EDP, EDT and Houbigant Fougere Royale. I have reviewed all of them except Zino, which I shall very soon :).
@@ACSmellsGood Thank you. And yes, absolutely. Have already blind bought Boucheron and Havana on your recommendation. Loved the story about reviving some of these lost masterpieces and the identity of their perfumers. What stands out for Beau De Jour is its old school but high quality. The projection and longevity is phenomenal. Even in cold weather. Although it really shines in hot/spring weather. No other old school fragrance has done it for me yet. All of them die down after few hours. Or they’re more conservative i should say. Probably in sync with those times.

I’m sorry, but it sounds like the nastiest and heaviest chemical warfare - some kind of naphthalene insecticide. My favorite Barbershop scent.
1. Beau De Jour
2. Rive Gauche
3. At The Barber's
4. Drakkar Noir
I have done a list on this, do it check it out for more ideas :)

I agree with you about the signature line. I find them to be more interesting and of better quality than many of the private blends. Excellent review.
I couldn't agree more Lee, they are just fantastic :)
Do you think it smells similar to Dior eau sauavage
Great review! Love both the Private Blend and the Signature versions. A total gem.
Thank you :)
Zino by Davidoff (patchouli first, then lavender)
Beau de Jour (lavender first, then patchouli).
I own both and actually prefer the Davidoff because it is smoother/creamier.
Zino has much more oakmoss which can lean towards a retro kind of smell. Beau ends with patchouli which is alot better than oakmoss.
