First, Nintendo named the Pokemon gengar after Doppleganger.
I believe they associated the concept " a double of a living parson" with " a shadow".
Second, KulfiQ said in his CD he mistakenly assumed that ganger(gengar) means shadow when he wrote this song.
Well, by the way, I guess I found a mistranslation.
It's " 'Youngsters these days!' I often hear the line or such things."

According a wiki page Gänger was supposed to be german for walking...but in German it means predecessor and then the meaning got switched with being a shadow and then people were mistaking it for a pokemon. Yaay for being lost in translation. Ad Gan could mean cancer too buuut.. doppleganger makes more sense ~ ^3^

I have a question about the tittle, is *Ganger* the translation of *Gengaa* or is it the normal romanisation ?

I've always seen the title written as "Narisumashi Gengar".
