Note: In addition to the dedicated large parting off blade holder, the two way tool holder will take 16 mm turning tooling for heavy work. A totally no flex unit. Cheers Rob

An excellent idea Rob. After trying various sizes of parting off tools in my little lathe I eventually realised the the largest one you can fit is generally the best! Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan. Yes, those little blades aren't worth a damn. Cheers Rob

Very impressive parting off blade Rob. It's the one part of lathe work I hate doing. I like the special tool post you made. Cheers Nobby

Hi Nobby. I used to hate parting off as the blade would always catch and dig in/sieze. Not any more. Between this rigid dedicated post and my "worlds cheapest parting off blade holder" parting off is a piece of cake. Cheers Rob

    Good video.
I reckon the extra thickness of that blade is totally worth it for the reduction in anxiety that parting invariably brings.

Yes, for this sized job the extra width is not an issue. The blade depth also helps a lot.

Parting scares me, It's the one thing i dislike to do. Rigidity, sharp blade, lube and make sure your tool post is square to the work. that's what works for me.

Most drama is caused by blade overhang leverage, due to flex/weakness in the compound mount and tool post. A rigid dedicated mount eliminates those issues, as demonstrated. Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, that no flex tool looks like it cuts well. Ironically I just released a video on a flex tool that I built. The flex part allows the tool to move away if there is a dig in. I wonder how that would go on a large piece like you had?
Thanks for all of the videos you have posted this year. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Stay safe and I'm sure we will see more videos next year.

Is this your casting? What did you degas with?

Yes, that's my casting. No degassing agent used or required. Cheers Rob
