Wow Steve, of course I remember you. That was a sentinel experience for me. I thought I might cross paths with you but lost your info of course. I toured the state till late July, almost 3 months. Didn’t make it to Prudhoe Bay but did get to Coldfoot on the Dalton Highway. Be cool to reconnect. I’m going back up next spring.
@@DanielFCutter I stayed home this summer but also am thinking about going back up next summer. I thought we’d bump into each other too and kept my eye open but it never happened. Put Homer on your list and then take the ferry out to Dutch Harbor. It was the highlight of my summer! Watch for Carol too, she’s everywhere! Haha.
Yea we need to talk! While I explored the Turnagain inlet and Whittier I didn’t go to Homer. After 6 weeks of solitude I was shell shocked by the amount of RVs heading down there so turned around. Next summer perhaps. A ferry to the Aleutian Islands.
Dan ,,,memories of riding the ferry from Juneau to Skagway in the 90's with my 80 year old mom sitting under the deck canopy not wanting to go inside so she would not miss anything...she loved the trip as all your viewers have too. Thanks for taking us along
i love this video. I really enjoy simple showcases of experiences like this instead of the fancy content creation vlog style videos. It feels more real and attainable and community-minded. I hope to ride the ferry one day soon so this is great to see!
Remember Carol? The ferry employee? I bumped into her again going from Homer to Kodiak and then again from Skagway to Bellingham on my way home in September.
Thanks Dan for the video. I am planning a trip for May of 24 to Juneau by either the Marine Highway or drive to Skagway & use the highway to get to Juneau. We have an expedition cruise starting in Sitka & ends in Juneau. Then by car to explore the interior of Alaska for a time before returning to the lower 48. I'm currently thinking of one way by Marine Highway & drive the other (either North to start or South at the end). I know costs will likely go u year to year but, what was the cost of passage with the car?
About $1000 for the car and $500 for a passenger if you camp out on the top deck. A state room costs more. That was from Bellingham to Skagway. So maybe cheaper for only part of that distance. The sooner you book the “cheaper”it is as they engage in what they call Dynamic Billing or something. As the boat fills up the price goes up. Call them-they are very responsive and its easy to book your trip!
@@DanielFCutter Thank you Dan. Their schedule is not yet available for May. I check every week. "Dynamic billing" is something they learned from the airlines. Sometimes called "Demand rate structure." I'd want a stateroom. My tent camping days are pretty much over since I turned 75. Not that I couldn't, just that I'd rather not with artificial knee & less stamina than ten years ago.
@@dennislyons3095 May is perfect. They are having some huge staffing issues and not all destinations are available. But the inside passage is their bread and butter--I can’t wait to go again.
Hey there! I don’t know if anyone has brought this to your attention in the last year since you uploaded this video, but you actually were traveling along the Inside Passage, not the “Inland Passage” that you state in your video. Yeah, if the AMHS can get their ferries to travel inland, I’m going to start flying instead! 😉
That barge the tug is pulling comes to the mine I work at. I work on an island 40 mins from Juneau. It actually just showed up here a couple of hours ago. There is also a normal commercial airport in Juneau. It’s not just boat or bush/float plane.
Hi Dan! This is Steve! We rode up together. In fact I’m the guy near the end in the lumberjack shirt. I had a dynamite summer, hope you did too.

Nice video, took the same route four weeks later, the solarium was much busier then

Dan, can your ride the Ferry all the way from Bellingham to Skagway, stay aboard as it turns around, and ride it all the way back?
what does it cost to go to skagway by ferry
Juneau is kind of the opposite of landlocked. It’s not accessible by land routes, only water or air. So maybe it’s water/airlocked?
Inside Passage. Inland refers to land away from the ocean.
