Disagree with the guy saying that the Daytona didnt peek until the ceramic models. The Daytona has been hot and difficult to get waaaaaay before they went to ceramic bezel.
Not nearly the difficulty it reached at the ceramic release. That was actually the watch that wrote the script for all the nonsense today. They’ve used the “impossible to get” business model across the whole line now
It was originally a failure because no one wanted them because they had a screw down crown but we’re manually wound so you had to unscrew it every day to wind it.
Never seen anyone wearing it with stickers…
every Rolex dealer gets the stickers off nowadays -otherwise they risk loosing their dealership.
Then explain the abundance of fully stickered watches on the grey market
True, there is no alternative of a chronograph that is slim and 100m water resistant.
That is like leaving the tags and pins on a new dress shirt. If it’s meant to be worn where it, if it’s meant to be ridden, ride it, if it’s meant to be driven drive it. One day you’re not going to be here and life isn’t a sequel.
Paid retail for mine. And the hype is more than deserved. And I’ve scratched the band to buggery as I wear it every day come rain or shine
The steel Daytona was difficult to get long before the ceramic models. 23 years ago I was told the wait could be years.
He said he got it polished and hated it …Coolest shit ever👍🏾 I’m team scratches as well😂
“Slim automatic chronograph” is the exact reason why it’s my grail watch
Glad they mentioned the Daytona thinness. Pretty wild on wrist
I never understand watch guys that are against having a nice, clean, scratchless watch. The fact that you would have sold the watch because there were no more scratches is baffling to me
But but but. What about the safe queen Batman that never got worn and then was sold? Sorry couldn’t resist. It was yours to do as you wished but it’s kinda similar right? Most people that get a Daytona at retail have way more expensive and rare watches. If they didn’t, they’d never get allocated the Daytona so I think a hell of a lot do get worn.
The king TRMZ goated streamer.
Totally agree the people getting offered daytona at list have many more expensive watches.
I mean i keep my watches in pristine condition even tho i do wear them its all down to the person i guess
Stop hyping rolex full stop....
@@WatchUnwind Not really. People are just sheep and cream over Rolex, especially Americans. I've sold the Rolex I owned as I no longer want to support the brand.
@@stevebennett7783 I enjoy my Rolex. I like the history of the brand and their accomplishments in watchmaking.
@@WatchUnwind I get that but for me personally the current Rolex brand isn't one that im interested in. They are no longer the makers of tool watches and more watches for tools. Still I doubled my money on my sub so im happy. Enjoy your watch.
As long as I’m aware of the Daytona, 2002, after I got my first Rolex, they were on lists. I got a 116520 in 2008 after three years on a list. I got the call a few weeks after the stock market had a huge dip. Probably called a bunch of people who declined because they got wiped out. The whole sports line is now on lists. People paying double retail for retail SS GMTII’s?
As far as stickers go, it’s dense. Reminds me of people leaving plastic covers over their furniture. Mind you, I’m not taking my Daytona rock climbing or wild water rafting. There’s my Sinn 556A for that. Mine has the ubiquitous hairline scratches on the bezel and center links from normal use. The first scratch on any watch always sucks but I figure after 5-10 years of use it gets serviced and it comes back like new. For the circle to start again. As far as memories go, I rather take a photograph or write in a journal instead of putting a scratch on a watch.🙂
There is no difference if this watch is water resistant for 5-10-50-100m, their owners wont ever put them on water anyway...
Really don’t like the look of the Daytona, especially the bi-metallic and precious metal versions. Tool watch turned fashion watch IMO, I’ve never understood all the hype around this watch.
Seriously? Since ceramic models? It was hyping even before that.
The Daytona has great dimensions, and wears very comfortably
I have a cool story about a 116520. I have the black dial. I believe it is a 2007. We walked into an AD. They asked how can they help us... We said we would like to buy a daytona ss. Every sales person in there laughed. They said it was like a 5-10 year waiting list. Within 30 min we had one. It was shipped to a family members house in the midwest. We are in Florida and never looked back. I refuse to ever pay over retail for a watch. It's not that serious
I never liked the daytona until the ceremic bezel lol. It's weird how a small change can get your interest
They should change the screw-down pushers. That makes absolutely no sense to have
Your opinion.
Disagree with Andrew about there not being an alternative to the Daytona. There's the Zenith A386 from which the movement was taken and put into the Daytona because Rolex didn't have a bloody chronograph movement themselves at the time!
People can do whatever they want with their properties…. So don’t get mad of you see someone using his rolex with stickers on…. Buy one for your and take even the case back if you like it
I remember as being in the trade for 25 years so far zenith daytonas being left in trades god i wish i had the forsite i left a gold zenith daytona for 5k b&p in a trade and took the subs instead lol then again i used to buy gmts for 2200 good old days
My brother in law has 3 Rolex. All of them are scratched up pretty good. He has a Fluted DateJust - a silver white Daytona and another I have no idea what it’s called. However he has not wearer them in years and uses a smartwatch. Good news he is letting me borrow one of them for an event so I’llbring one out
I think a watch, like a car, regardless of it's value should be worn (driven). That's where the history and appreciation come in. How can anyone appreciate something in a safe or covered all day?
Nah wearing a watch with stickers on is insaneee
These guys are going to say what ever is counter to whatever the majority think just for the sake of saying it. This is just as bad as being a watch snob is being a hater just because a watch is hyped up doesn’t mean the Daytona isn’t a great looking watch.
True, there isn’t an alternative that is slim chronograph.
@@ItsNeverTooHot4Leather only the el primero original but it only has 50m water resistant. There isn’t any slim chronograph that is 100m water resistant.
it soon will be well the black dial now £18k in the UK will drop to £15k soon
the irony of the "ceramic" bezel Rolex and other watches is that those bezel inserts cost about $10.00 to make
Someone stopped me the other day to ask to buy my Batman because it was worn and had scratches 😂 needless to say if you see my avatar I’m never selling that watch - and it will be worn to death!! 🖤💙
Totally incorrect, the daytona was a desirable hard to obtain watch well before the ceramic was introduced
cosmograph*
Fully agree about the Daytona i just don’t see it
Don’t talk rubbish. Never seen anyone with stickers on a Daytona and change that APC is it the only top you have ?😂
I get Adrian wanting to do it for himself but I will never understand people that get pissed off about other people keeping the sticker on
Zenith?
😳Don’t lesson to these guy or and body the says nonsense like this …We should care just like a Rolls-Royce isn’t just a car a Rolex isn’t just a watch but Whatever helps you sleep at night 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂 watch guys ….
Bro Zenith invented Daytonas movement, Rolex never did a thing except for 5000-6000$ worth of gold case and bracelet on it, if that's Rolex for you than you can have it I swear it's the biggest fraud ever
Speaking of not hyping up Rolex, doesn't he have like 4 Rolex sports watches, 1 that he just bought recently?
Rolex makes amazing watches and he openly loves them but I think k it’s the fact people buy them then baby them
Dont agree with you. Channel going backwards
Happens with music. You don’t like it until you do. Check out la Leyenda del Tiempo by Camarón de la Isla.
Was very popular well before the ceramic came out. 116520 was hard to get even 20 years ago
Exactly!
Yup I can confirm! My uncle tried to get one at retail for a 116520 white dial at the time in the early 2000s and it was even difficult to obtain it back then.
