I've done so many 500+ mi road trips in mine and I love it. I've put 20k miles on it in 9 months. Seats stay comfortable and the ride is pretty good in comfort down the highway. I don't even mind looking for longer back road routes because it's just such a blast. I had an Elantra N before and would always have to make an extra stop or two to stretch my back out, but not in the CTR. Plus I usually get around 30-32mpg so it's not that bad on fuel. It's the best car I've owned by far
i wanted an ITS but the FL5 seats are actually better padded than the integra IMO. i got fatigue in my a spec, but not in my FL5 driving long distances on bumpy NY highways
@mrdiamonde pretty easily. I've never owned a car that didn't outperform its epa ratings. The 30-32 is on long hwy trips, but i think my overall all-time avg is still around 28-29
Just took my son to a hockey tournament and put about 850 miles on my ‘21 Type R in a weekend. It was extremely comfortable. My wife has a 2016 Highlander that we take on road trips, and those seats kill my back, but I was good to go in the CTR!
Took my DE5 on a ~1000km road trip this summer and it was A BLAST. Was a bit nervous about taking it to some slightly bumpy roads to campsites, but those memories I made… The FL5/DE5 are great cars to have as a daily.
That's awesome man, I'm looking to get an ITS next year also. Do you think a regular sized cooler would fit in the back with no problem? I love fishing and trying to avoid buying a truck lol. 😅
@@LexCTF I think a cooler should be able to fit (without having to put the back seats down. You’ll probably have to put it deeper in the trunk against the wall of the back seats. For my trip, the trunk was stuffed and I had to put some extra stuff in the back seats (I also did a 5% tint on all the rear windows just so it would be hard to look into. Also, I kept my trunk cover on the whole time. You might get a tiny bit more room if you remove it?)

The lane keep assist and cruise control make this car extremely easy to drive long distance. I recently got over 30mpg on my 300+mi drive last weekend. Very impressed with how well rounded this car is. I did a 4 hour track day followed by a 4 hour drive home in one day and was not sore at all afterwards.
I got a 24 Golf R the car is a great daily and great in long trips. The Type R is beautiful car the only downside it does not have 3rd seatbelt in the back, besides that Type R always a good choice.
I daily mine 600 miles weekly love it and thank to your videos make me decide for it. Mine is completely stock and that’s gone to be the issue fun to drive as is.
Thanks, Joe, for letting us ride shotgun with you in your Civic Type R. I think I would go the Civic Type R route over competition. It really does offer a lot of versatility and likely good reliability.

I swapped out the suspension control module for the Integra version. Result: I now have two usable settings for the street, Comfort and Sport. Before, only the Comfort setting was usable. (There are some pretty rough roads here in SoCal these days). But I agree totally with your assessment of the FL5 - it’s a great car.
I drove 2 or 3 hours one way the other day to drop off a set of wheels to a marketplace buyer. No issues whatsoever with comfort or the seats. The one downside is the fuel tank capacity. You can only go maybe 250 miles before you’re looking to fill up again.
Drove my 2019 FK8 over 600 miles daily to San Diego for a year for work plus a couple of pleasure drives to Carmel/HWY 1(80 thousand miles in one year). The Type R was comfortable and bulletproof with plenty of storage for luggage/work tools etc…absolutely no issues. The only thing I would recommend is buying some lightweight 18 inch rims because the 20 inch stock rims will give you multiple flat tires at once if you hit bad potholes, rocks, debris, etc. There isn’t much give in those factory rubber band thick tires and the 18s will give you a cushier ride as well…
You should drive a GR Yaris someday. I know it’s not available in the US, but after having driven both, I can tell you the experience is night and day. Almost 500 lbs difference in curb weight.
Joe have you thought about swapping in the Type S damper module for a smoother ride? Is the ride quality in the Civic type-r better than that in the GR Corolla?
Change over to the type s electronic damper and that will help... however if you are tracking the Type R then leave it alone... guessing most don't track it so for those it is worth the $ 300.00 mod. I tracked one car I owned GT500 and realized very quickly how much it cost to track a car. Entry Fee, tire upgrade, brake upgrade, suspension work, fuel, etc. It was fun but never went back now just go watch others beat up their cars..LOL Out of all the hot hatches just wished Germany would allow the ClubSport in US having 300hp FWD with a DSG would be a lot of fun. In 5 more months the Golf R with 331hp hits the US and should be interesting.

Just curious Joe…are you considering some of those Honda Performance parts that were introduced on the prototype Acura Type S? I’m referring to the 6 piston brakes and maybe the dual oil cooler set up(if it doesn’t require you to replace the front clip obviously). Supposedly the total parts offered will lower the total vehicle weight by 200lbs(lightweight wheels, hood, door cards, rear seat delete etc.)…and a CTR version of these Acura parts are going to be made available.
