This was excellent. So many attempts at "SURPRISE, IT'S A HORROR GAME" fall completely flat, but this was properly intriguing -- and that was the perfect point to leave off the demo.
In fact, calling it a "demo" feels like it's doing it a disservice -- this feels more like the "Episode 1" of a shareware game from the '90s. And I mean that 100% as a huge compliment. Proper creativity backed up by solid game design and a clear artistic vision. Chef's kiss.
Right? This *is* a complete (albeit short) game in itself, promising more the deeper you dive.
This one was so effective because it was more than just "creepy old game." I like how theyre going beyond and giving it another layer of reality to go through. AND the game looked fun.

Plus the game title isn't even lying. Technically, out of the four games, after whatever chaotic thing happened to the characters we met, their world was covered up with a fresh coat of paint: Normal Fishing

The ugly monotone puke color on everything turned me off, but now I see that’s VERY intentional. You are not supposed to feel comfortable. But at the same time, you stop noticing it after an hour… which feels like getting used to something that should repulse you. Which is ALSO likely very intentional! This studio is clever. I want to see more >:)
I was a little bit skeptical when the whole meta "game is broken/glitchy" thing came into play, but the way it ended with what it actually is SOLD me

I gotta say, since maybe a third of all video games have fishing in there somewhere now, this actually one of the cooler fishing mechanics I've seen.

I love how the more Dan plays horror games the more he grows to love them. Old Danny would’ve begged Arin to turn it off.
I think it's more that the NES graphics keep things from being too much for him.
To be fair this one's a lot more tame (thus far)
Sometimes I'd prefer old Dan, I can't watch any of those observation duty episodes or comps because if something pops up suddenly Dan screams loud enough to peak the mic and nobody does anything to fix that. He doesn't lean back when he's feeling scared, the editors don't turn down his mic, something will just pop up on screen in a game where the jumpscares aren't even what causes you to lose and he screams like someone pulled a knife on him
Someday, Dan's gonna be like "Is this a horror game? hell yeah, lfg"

I'm disappointed, too. They made a Frank reference about a month ago in the Rat Simulator video, though. Glad that giant-balled, bald badass still lives on.

Darnold and Anthrax! If you liked this game and while you wait for a full release, y'all should really play Dredge!! Another really cool fishing game with some deep secrets going on, and surprisingly way more play time than just a "fishing game" normally would have! Another game with similar old retro style to this one is Faith! Another scary game where youre uncovering a spooky-ooky story. Final game I'll recommend that has a similar LARGE story is Inscryption! Starts as a card game with MTG type rules, so I know you'll both enjoy that, and then does a similar thing this game does where once you "finish" the first round, multiple other games WITHIN the game start opening up! Hope y'all will play some or even all of these at some point! Mayhaps Ghoul Grumps since I know y'all record way in advance O.O
I've wanted to play Inscryption, but I've always hated deck builders. Hopefully it doesn't make you learn too many mechanics before pulling the rug out and sending you into the meat of the game?

God, the "special fish" encounter music is such a banger. It gets me pumped every time it plays. Genuinely fantastic soundtrack overall.

Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia is another good creepy fishing game if you two feel up to it

Love this game and everything about it. I can't believe it's a demo it looks finished in every aspect.
After I watched their first episode of the demo, I went over to ManlyBadassHero's video and watched that. Just knowing the creepiness that's about to ensue (and really ramp up) in this episode has me cackling in anticipation

I don't think they understood how the time works, if they think of it as bag slots then they can only get five fish before their bag is filled and they have to end the day. Basically the time slots only decrease by catching the fish.

I think the rise of “Bla bla bla innocuous job” simulator has given rise to a lot more interesting ways in which you can tell a story, at least in the indie scene, and that makes me happy.

Definitely thinking this game has some kind of simulation aspect to it. The phone call about how much a human brain can store and the people suddenly having memories that they don't think are theirs. I am super excited about this game and am looking forward to a full release!!
