I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (January 6, The Epiphany of Our Lord), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church. I played this as the Hymn of the Day. It is #815 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. So ends the Christmas season. But we'll pick it back up on December 1, 2013.
A lot of great spiritual songs came out of the Church of the Redeemer, Episcopal, Houston, TX in the 1970s. This was one of them. I croaked a verse out impromptu at my neighbor's graveside gathering. It seemed apropos. I want to see the brightness of God I want to look at Jesus Clear sun of righteousness, shine on my path And show me the way to the Father In Him, there is no darkness at all The night and the day are both alike The Lamb is the light of the city of God Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus Silence... punctuated with a few sobs and I'm no singer. Requiescat in pace, Patricia Mueller.
I grew up at the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal in Houston. I have beautiful and fond memoriesof such a wonderful place. This is one of my favorite hymns.
I first heard this song in mass this past year. I have been attending mass for 30 years and never heard this song and it is so beautiful. I lost a beloved aunt this year, my mom and my uncle developed cancer that has since been treated, and this song has kept me in remembering my aunt and our family's tribulations. Gracias a Dios por todo. Thank you god
It me, again. And this is to all denominations: If Romans 6:1-4, 12-14, 17-23 is your Scripture of the Day, this is a good hymn to compliment it. Another is Bless Now, O God, the Journey, written by Sylvia Dunstan (1955-1993).
Ed, I am trying to find out where to get the picture of Jesus walking with the young man in the video song I want to walk as a child of God. Could you help me to know where to purchase this picture? Thank you very much for any help you can give me!
