How is this band real? This song is so complex and they just kill it. What's funny is that Priest has such incredible songs and they could have easily gotten by on leads that were less than stellar but their leads are always mind-blowing, melodic and next level. They are truly the full package, always pushed the envelope and that's why they are one of my favorite bands of all time.
Awesome live footage the way it was meant to be played from way back in the day! Hearing Glenn & KK play this one puts chills up my spine. This video captures the essence of a live Judas Priest performance. They take the opportunity to improvise and musically explore, stretching out the solo, their guitars crying out an epic tale of tragedy and sorrow like some incredible metal opera. The lyrics and mournful melody epitomize the hard and often tragic life of a hardcore rocker or outlaw biker.
What are you guys on about, KK is right there at the left of the stage. He does the initial part of the solo just like on the album, and the sound he gets out of that guitar is orgasmic. Cameraman could have paid a bit more attention though
Saw this tour in New York's Madison Square Garden. A few nights either before or after this. Priest was banned from the Garden on that night. We tore the place up because they played and sounded so great! That was the fans way of showing their love. Whoever is old enough to have seen this tour is lucky. And I'm one of them. This was the Priest in their absolute prime. What they're doing now is absolutely a completely different band. I mean no KK or Glenn?!! at the live show?!! Come on man!!!!! It's sickening to say the least. But i know young kids don't get that. But it kills me to see young kids today thinking that Andy Sneap and Ritchie Faulkner are Metal Gods. Pfft.
Tipton and KK are a perfect guitar duo, it's not the same without KK. The symbiosis of their solos (musically) here is matched only by the other legendary pair Murray-Smith.
O solo do KK Downing no meio da música, nesta ocasião, saiu ainda MELHOR que na versão de estúdio. Repleto de sentimento o guru...Aliás, esses 2 guitarristas são magistrais e o Judas no todo um monstro sonoro aí =)
haha, who cares if its shit, the energy is there. If I bought an album and it sounded like that, then I'd be pissed off, but I think live stuff like that is charming. He nailed it on one of them though @2:30
To me, Defenders of the Faith is a great showcase for the range of this awesome band. You've got your fast and crazy "Freewheel Burning" and "The Sentinel" (who doesn't consider that tune a favorite?). There's the slower and powerful Love Bites and album title track. There's the melodious Night Comes Down and Rock Hard which still don't lose touch with the heaviness of the rest of this masterpiece. This has been my favorite band for 25 years. They ARE metal, period.
Check out the late and great Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy fame. So much better as a solo artist. The song you need to view is a live version of is this, "The End of the World". This should knock you out!!! I was fortunate enough to see the Late Mr. Moore (R.I.P.) at two venues and one right here in my home town. He is simply ... incredible!!!
Thank you Judas Priest for what you do. I turned 50 years old today. Your music got me through some dark times. And I know I'm not the only one. They say everything gets better when you get older.
Funny you say that, and I agree, but However this performance I’m pretty sure was definitely in the year 1990 or 1991, or actually could be the Ram It Down tour in 1988 to 1989.Judging by the stage set up, their outfits, And exactly how Rob’s voice sounds
Are there no studio-produced videos from the Defenders of the Faith tour? Just about every video for songs from this album that was commercially done are from Turbo or one of the later tours...
yessir my friend, became a massive judas priest fan for awhile after, i unfortunately didn't enjoy turbo and them moved on to gnr and then the stones and blues and now brmc, but yeah, i'll remember this show all my life, they opened with love bites, i was 14, my first big event ever, watching rob halford appear with a motorcycle during the encores was just killer, this defenders of the faith record still is one of my all time favorite records, heavy duty is to die for, cheers friend
Just came back from the Priest Gig in Huttwil Switzerland...awesome...they still rock the town!!!Wednesday night and the Priest was definitively back! Couldn't believe they also played "Rock hard, ride free"...what a great show for such a small place in Switzerland
I have seen Judas Priest many times and they never failed to be anything less than SPECTACULAR !!! K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton are the best "Tandem" guitar players ever!!!
when you read KK;s book, youll see the Priest in while new light,,, things I always suspected just fro their persona, were true from KK's perspective... pretty awesome
They played this when I saw them two days ago! The playing was perfect and Rob was in top form! Don't judge him on what you've seen in the latest DVD, Hhe seems to have gotten the voice back. It's probably because he stopped smoking, and been singing more diverse songs since rejoining Priest and his voice gets more of a workout. He's extremely impressive now. Although to sing the "all day, all night" he did use his lower register, but that was it. Everyone should catch a show of this tour!
man when i listened defenders of the faith, wow i became a defender of this faith called rock hard ride free, this is a desire playable song!!just love this harmonies on the guitar!! hell yeah!!
Actually I’m relatively sure that this performance is from the ram it down tour of 1988 Goa qlllljudging by how Rob’s voice sounds (which sounds amazing don’t get me wrong) however I can tell this is late 80s Rob snd not 1984 Rob by the subtle differences in how his high notes sounded here in 1988 compares d to 1984. and also I’m pretty sure this is their stage set up from the 1988 Ram It Down tour as well.
Yeah, okay. But it's on pace to surpass many of them.I'm afraid Turbo might be their #1 album, even though I am not fond of it.For me nostra took awile to get used to,but there really is nothing like it.Classical metal:another Priest experiment.
i was told that in some european countries they dont mosh, my buddy went to a few shows there and started moshing. someone was like "dude wtf you doing...watch the fucking show"
cant believe how tipton didnt miss a single note on that solo....pure talent
1st lead break or second? KK did the first one.
@@Dharmicaction I think in this song KK played a better solo.

My wife asked me, How come the guitars sound so good..............................................................The Priest baby....
This is why they are metal gods, they play almost identical to studio, even with all the difficulty of the song.
Halford is quite far from the studio performance I'd say.
@@freakazoid4691 no.
Not in that year.
Not in that performance.
@@freakazoid4691 It is almost like in the studio. I don't agree. He sings in a fantastic way.
@@lucademizio6885 Yeah I'm completely agree. It sounds like almost like in singing in the studio.
@@freakazoid4691 ??? Halford is very good here.
Such a great metal tune...those solos...blistering.
Mr.Dave Holland THE BEST drums Judas Priest, ONLY 1,PERFECT, FANTASTIC, MAGNIFIC. R.I.P LOVE YOU FOREVER ❤️
beautiful tear jerking leads!
Fred Suero increíbles!!

C’est un son de malade! Bravo ! J’adore
God Glenn will always be the best! Followed by God KK. Amazing and historical solos to be remembered until end of time.
their best melodies are in rock hard ride free,i just cant stop listening to this tune .
Melhor música do Disco e da banda.. homem livre , liberdade para todos..
the best from the best. the true heavy metal song. music and lyrics united.
Pour moi l'un des meilleurs albums du groupe
Le meilleures.
Defenders is my favorite Priest album. Thanks for posting so many clips from this awesome show:-)
God I miss these fucking days !!
Simply AMAZING !!
judas, u have changed my flavor!
if only this was professionally recorded
still better quality than some of the footage on Metallica's Cliff Em All video
it probably was at the time
Saw them in Ottawa on this tour, amazing!
잘 들었습니다.~~~
Cool~~~
questo video dei mitici judas mi ha fatto venire i brividi il migliore gruppo metal grandissimi!!!!!!!
All this time i knew about them but it never until now dawned on me how fucking good these guys are!!
What are you guys on about, KK is right there at the left of the stage. He does the initial part of the solo just like on the album, and the sound he gets out of that guitar is orgasmic. Cameraman could have paid a bit more attention though

damn, im 27 now and had never listened to metal, but judas is awesome!!!
Epic Intro.
I really hope that JP will explore DOTF album on the Nostradamus tour!
awesome song-should been played more live.itsa killer!
Tipton and KK are a perfect guitar duo, it's not the same without KK. The symbiosis of their solos (musically) here is matched only by the other legendary pair Murray-Smith.
absolutely right, besides both duos that you named, i cant think of anyone else...
My sentiments exactly! I give the nod to Glen and Dave in their respective duos. Mercyful Fate had an awesome duo as well, with Shermann/Denner!
halloween duo isn't bad at all too.
FUCKIN AWESOME ! LONG LIVE THE PRIEST !
@sltwentytwo - totally Agree ,this is one of their best solo's
Pure epicness. Damnit, why don't they make music like this any more?
Easily the best live version of this song here
buena cancion
muy bueno
Rob And Bruce are bloodbrothers, enough different.
This so far is their #1 album, according to sales! There's plenty of energy and exploration awaiting. You'll see.
O solo do KK Downing no meio da música, nesta ocasião, saiu ainda MELHOR que na versão de estúdio. Repleto de sentimento o guru...Aliás, esses 2 guitarristas são magistrais e o Judas no todo um monstro sonoro aí =)

the best judas priest solos are on defenders of the faith album
@urporuuna is it the best or your fav JP album?
my first jp album so i dont have much to compare to,.
This guy have nice camera for a 1984 ;P
haha, who cares if its shit, the energy is there. If I bought an album and it sounded like that, then I'd be pissed off, but I think live stuff like that is charming.
He nailed it on one of them though @2:30
Rob halford is the best, bruce is good but halford is the realy god of metal. Great song.
this is mistical album
every song is disturbing in good way
Hahahahahaha, Bruce dickinson isen´t even close to Halford. Halford is way better than him.
I don't think there's any other footage of this song performed. One of my favourite Priest songs from arguably their best album.
You know it!
Live Graspop 2008 is another. And yes, those are also some of my favorites from that fantastic lineup.
For sure their best album by far!!!
Probably my favorite Priest song ever. \m/
my all time favorite song period.... and I'm listening to Hard Rock and Heavy metal for more than 23 years.
It's my favourite one, no doubt
One of my absolute favourites. It's one of very few songs that can even make me cry. It's just so damned epic in a non pretentious way.
Me too!
Been a fan after I bought "Take On the World" on 7 inch vinyl in '79 but I would say this is certainly my favourite track by them.
one of downing & tipton's finest moments. just a perfectly constructed solo.
Someone else described the solos as blistering. Yes, but also melodic. The most melodic solo I'm aware of K.K's. Monumental; never to be repeated.
To me, Defenders of the Faith is a great showcase for the range of this awesome band. I'm heavy duty.....
For me - Iron maiden.
I'm 1977.
Glenn's solo in this one must be one of heavy metal's all time greatest.

KK'solo is slightly better
how the hell people hide their cameras in 84? a video camera at that time was bigger than my head
but... thanks to that i have this video
This video must be preserved for future generations to come
This is a highly underrated JP song.... i was driving out of town .. high outta my head and listening to this with my friends in the car....
BLISS!!!!
Ian Hill never did move around much did he. solid player though
Thank you Judas Priest for what you do. I turned 50 years old today. Your music got me through some dark times. And I know I'm not the only one. They say everything gets better when you get older.
priest solos always memorable
EXCELLENT this was my first Priest show...DEFENDERS TOUR...IT RULES. Kick Axe opened.
Phenomenal Track off an elite album!! 🤘🤘
Rob's voice was definately somethin' else in the 80s...
Still is in my opinion.
@@metalizer4102 It's something else than it was in the 80's, that's for sure. :)
Yeah, this is the best version of Halford. Best vocal tone, and still has most of his range.
Funny you say that, and I agree, but

Rob Halford is the only man who can dance to metal
Paul Stanley can too!
Rock hard with a purpose..🤘🤘

Just came back from the Priest Gig in Huttwil Switzerland...awesome...they still rock the town!!!Wednesday night and the Priest was definitively back!
Couldn't believe they also played "Rock hard, ride free"...what a great show for such a small place in Switzerland
This song reminds me of banging drumsticks on a living room chair back home to this one and listening to Metal Shop hosted by Charlie Kendall.
Great show, great solos, great Halford, great everything! The best year for Heavy Metal history, 1984 :-)
Interesting how Tipton plays with the body of the guitar at his midsection.
