  • All footage found about Nacka compiled in 3 videos (golas, dribbles, and assits)
Nicknamed through-out his career as "Nacka" or the "The Waving Corncob", Lennart Skoglund was a star of two Swedish World Cup sides in the 1950s. First as a young inside-left in 1950 and then as a mature left winger on home soil in 1958.
He started at a local club called IK Stjärnan in 1943 before moving on to his favoured club Hammarby the following year, where he played between 1944 and 1949. In 1950 he was controversially sold to rivals AIK due to the sad financial situation of the club. He soon made his first appearance for the national and made a great impact in the World Cup held in Brazil. During the World Cup, São Paulo FC offered US$ 10.000 for him, but the price was considered low by the AIK principal who was monitoring Sweden team. In less than one month, Nacka was sold to Internazionale by five times that value. In Inter, he helped them win the Serie A title twice in the 1953 and 1954. In all, he played 246 matches with Internazionale, scoring 57 goals.
His fine ball-control, excellent left foot and fine distribution made him a big favourite with the fans. Sweden failed to qualify to the 1954 World Cup because they would not recall exiles like Nacka, hence his few caps, but when the Swedes played host to the 1958 tournament, they had a change of heart and Skoglund appeared in all Sweden's games as they finished runners-up to Brazil. In the semifinal against West Germany, Nacka scored his first and only goal for Sweden in the 3-1 win which set them up for the classic final against Brazil.

Thank you so much for this compilation. He won the prize for worlds best left wing after the 58 WC. However it's a shame that Nacka didn't get a chance to play in WC 54 (due to the swedish federations policy against pro players) when he was at his peak. He was the star of Inter during that time when Inter won two Serie A titles. Nacka was already on his way down in 58. He had lost some of his speed and cardio. His life was starting to effect his playing. Nacka sadly died in 1975.

Probably the best player in the world during the mid fifties, along with the hungarian Ferenc Puskas ...

Does the name Di Stefano sound familiar to you?

@@@ricardocorreia2542 Yes, later in the fifties I think you're right, di Stefano was fantastic! But in the middles of the fifties I would have Nacka Skoglund, Ferench Puskas, the dutchman Faas Wilkes and even an aging Stanley Matthews as the greatest ... Thank you for your insightful comment! :-)

@@CoachNiklas at that time Di Stefano was already at Madrid, and won two CLs in the mid 50s before the arrival of Puskas

@@@ricardocorreia2542 Yes, I do know that, I believe he won some championships with River Plate in the late 40's as well ... but I think he got even better from 57 to 60. Nacka Skoglund was an exceptional player, many regard him as one of the best players who've played in Seria A after the war. Brian Glanville, the great football journalist regards Nacka Skoglund as one of the all time greats. By the way, I totally agree with you, di Stefano was an exceptional player, so was Faas Wilkes, the Brazilian Julinho, Helmut Rahn and Stanley Matthews during that era ... and what about Ferenc Puskas ..? A teammate from Real Madrid, who came to Sweden in the early 60's and became a coach for some of the best Swedish teams regarded Ferenc Puskas as the most technical gifted player ever alongside a swede, called Roger MAGNUSSON, "le roi de dribble" or "le Garrincha suedois". Roger MAGNUSSON was a iconic player for Olympique Marseille in the late 60's and early 70's ...
