Dr. S. Divyasena talks of her journey in this field of art through these episodes. When did she realise she was a dancer?
Every budding artiste crosses over and feels an artiste in the true sense at some point. A very interesting episode in Dr. S. Divyasena's early years which gave her the initial feel of a dancer and motivated her to pursue this journey, is what she elaborates here. A mother is a friend, guide, confidant and mento. In the most tense moments, she just becomes you in another physical form!! From such a mother, came the inspiration to pursue this art form meticulously! Support of the parents is the biggest pillar for a child.
Dr. S. Divyasena
An accomplished performer, researcher and teacher, Dr. S. Divyasena is the recipient of several prestigious awards - Sathyabhama Best Teacher Award, Yuvakala Bharathi, Natyacharya, Abhyasa Nritya Vardhini and more. Academically proficient in the field of Bharatanatyam, she is an Assistant Professor, Bharatanatyam Department, at the University of Silicon Andhra and a guest faculty both at Madras University and Christ University, Bangalore. A choreographer par excellence, her productions have received grants from the Ministry of Art and Culture, Government of India and from the Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, Tamilnadu. An artiste donning several hats - she is creative, versatile and humane at heart with a passion to learn, apply and dissipate knowledge.
Divyanjali
Divyanjali is the artistic brainchild of Dr. S. Divyasena. Since its inception in the year 1994, the academy has not only mentored several able artistes but has also had the honour of performing at several venues across USA, Europe, Bangkok, Singapore, Australia, Sri Lanka and UAE. The students of Divyanjali, along with Dr. Divyasena, have performed at the Indian pavilion as part of the week long Dubai Expo 2020 event and at the 124th edition of the Annual Ooty flower show, in the presence of the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.
Several students from Divyanjali have made the institution proud by securing top positions at reputed competitions. A unique facet of the institution is the Kalarpanam festival where a deserving artiste is provided a performance opportunity under the sponsorship of the institution. Sangeetham festival by Divyanjali is a display of artistic prowess by national and international artistes under one roof. The pandemic could not hamper the spirit of the institution - and true to its name, several divine offerings in the form of online dance productions like Jai Hanuman, Shivarpanam, Pannum Bharathamum have all been conceptualised and presented on the Divyanjali UA-cam channel.
