Ben puts himself forth as a strong contender for "Yogscast Psychopath of the year" in this video, and Tom gets the "Enabler" award. Hats off to you both!
never met a man so willing to hack off an imprisoned child's arms to prevent possible betrayal but so willing to trust a winged toad with a foot fetish
Ben coming up with lore on who died in his family to monsters is the best part of this. So many deaths, Also explains why his character is a serial killer.
I was literally thinking this while listening to the audio version I was like namcap sounds like something backwards I didnt put together that he was a yellow creature with a big mouth eating ghosts though haha
I think this reinforces the idea that tabletop games can be between two friends and still have a good time. You don't need large groups or huge interlocking schedules. The joy of the game is really on display here, great show.
You click on a UA-cam video, anticipating a brief story to unfold. As the video loads, music unexpectedly starts to play. "Something's off," you think, noticing a group of friends gathered around a table. Will Tom step in with his usual opening narration? Or have you stumbled upon a "Mystery Quest!"
You scroll down to the comments, anxious to explain your discomfort at the lack of an intro. Your eyes widen and your pulse heightens as you see 800 comments all saying the exact same thing. Are you an egoless lemming, or are you on a Mystery Quest?!
Love the old school dungeon crawl feel of this. I love how the old man prisoner basically is acting like the NPCs in most OSR games. Happy to see the dynamic duo play this.
I use a very carefully chosen selection of mystery quest intros as examples to help teach primary students to read aloud expressively. Will my students ever get some new examples or are they on a mystery quest?
I was not ready for how much I laughed during this. My husband had to bury his face in his hands he was cackling so much. Tom's "yes-and"-ing of Ben's shenanigans was perfect. I give it 10 cheese demon hunting orcs out of 10.
Tem and Bon on a Mystery Quest? Awesome, just caught up on the last two episodes so was looking forward to what would be next. Loved the 1000 Year Old Vampire videos so nice to something in a similar style.
they are testing out retention without them. Apparently a lot of people stopped watching during the intro, so this way the videos might gain more traction.
Content creators can see what part of a video is skipped or left during. Chances are they had enough people doing one or the other to warrant removing them for now
Wait does this mean if we want the intros we should not watch this? I feel the little vote they had about it was extremely intro preferential. I love them and i dont want them to go :( @@klonkrieger43
A cheesmonster and an undead child are now soul roommates with an 'undying' elder lich who got eaten by the prison guard. Perfect amount of sanity from our favorite duo.
These solo rpgs are such good advertisements! You two do a fantastic job at making them seem so funny and interesting-as soon as the video ended I bought a copy for myself. So excited to play!
I almost feel like I enjoy these one-on-ones more than group sessions. Having two people just riff off each other is just so much funnier. Group sessions are great as well, just in a different way. I guess what I'm saying is, the balance is great, so just keep doing what you're doing!
"there is nothing in this dungeon" he says, jinxing himself into oblivion.. (Please do more of these, like 1000 year old vampire was amazing to watch).
The dream Team! Fall just started and I got the best channel posting, with the best duo for RPGs, period! *sips drink* oh yeah, it's all coming together
this video has tickled me throughout! I loved it haha Bens character is a psychopath and Toms DM'ing bounces really well off his roleplaying. thank you!
Y'all should try "The Devil, John Moulton." It's on the lower end of complexity, but very narratively rich, and designed to create downward spirals. I think the vibe would work really well for y'all too, based on what has been played so far. (It's dark Wild West horror--think "Carnivale." It's got character co-creation too.)
Gods, I do love me some mystery quest! Bens hatred towards the d4 is unfounded though, what else am I going to use as DnD themed caltrops? *This is a comment, for the Angortyhm.*
Such a cool vibe, still one of your best decisions is to change up which RPG so often, I'd played dnd, delta green and dark heresy before watching these, but now I've played loads of other stuff mainly copying you guys, but I also really like Home (mech and kaiju fighting rpg) and Spire, I recommend those both to anyone, our group had a blast with those
I played The Zone with my friends recently, I think it would make an awesome mystery quest game! It's designed to have no game master, and for the players to take turns leading scenes, but could be easily modified to have a single game master and a few players at their whims.
This was a lot of fun! Ben was absolutely Ruthless with the NPCs. I would love to see more runs where he gets to level up and reoutfit between missions, maybe more prisoners can escape that he needs to chase down! There are 9 other bosses to kill after all. Since this is also compatible with Mörk Borg, it would be cool if Ben's character could show up in a Mystery Quest at some point. Then he could brag about having killed Galzug the Eye Spider and make other references only people who watched the backstory will get!
Thank you for playing this. As a long time fan, I am honered to see you guys play my game. Thank you
This playthrough got me to buy a copy, and I'm already excited to see if I can hack it to work with the new game His Majesty The Worm. Great game!
@@theomninerdThank you champ 👌
Maybe you could include Ben's character Zoldo as a pre generated character with lore!
Thoroughly sold, looking forward to running this for my friends sometime - thank you for your hard work!
I just picked up a copy last night after watching this

Turn out Ben WAS the Grotten, all along, like he originally thought
ben is a genius, first thing he does is recruit the narrator as a follower
If I were the DM I would just make him a disembodied voice who followed Ben around and commented on everything.
@@arnelilleseter4755
Yeah, Tom missed a Monkeypaw prompt!
Konosuba, anyone?
Ben coming up with lore on who died in his family to monsters is the best part of this. So many deaths, Also explains why his character is a serial killer.
Oh by the way. Namcap, the swollen yellow creature with a huge mouth, who wants to eat ghosts.
Read his name backwards 😄👻
You son of a... Well played.
Thanks i hate it.
Wow. This... wow.

Now that's meta
Immediately came to look for this post. Thank you for your contribution to the opening of Mystery Quest :D
Blame the average viewing audience and UA-cam's system that only rewards creators who strictly follow a narrow pattern of video formats.
I like how the old narrator guy quickly turns into a dazed and confused old man who no longer even remembers who he is haha.
In this episode we learn why the Yogscast don't leave Tom and Ben alone except for Your Hammer or Lore Hammer
no centaurs in dungeon bit uncharacteristic
@@davidracek3051 and where's the berry milk?
Some say The Grotten is limitless, descending forever into the abyss.
But Zoldo found it to be a pretty small world.

I have an ego, it's just not very big!
Love the old school dungeon crawl feel of this. I love how the old man prisoner basically is acting like the NPCs in most OSR games.

51:30 I love the music that picks up after Ben smashes the little undead boy free.
Ikr just suddenly in a Mario water level hahahahaha

This is the cutest thing I've heard of this week, thanks for that
Yo I'm stealing this can you tell me which ones? Currently teaching P5-7 in Scotland

Tom's "yes-and"-ing of Ben's shenanigans was perfect. I give it 10 cheese demon hunting orcs out of 10.
Enjoyed this immensely, Ben is such an exploit seeker, he’s always trying to bend the rules to his advantage 😂
This is one of the funniest videos I've ever seen. Not laughed this hard in a long time. Tom and Ben are the best.
A fan theory - the coal mine canary prisoner was none other than Jingly John, finally meeting his fate.
But he didn't sing his Being Burned Alive by a Bone Behemoth song.
Tem and Bon on a Mystery Quest? Awesome, just caught up on the last two episodes so was looking forward to what would be next. Loved the 1000 Year Old Vampire videos so nice to something in a similar style.
What happened to the intros? How will I ever know if I'm on a mystery quest or not?
Tom is abroad
well that's not a nice thing to say, now is it? lol@@summbuddie9120

Maybe a mystery quest intro for every new series?

This one on one stuff is my favourite content on the channel for some reason. Keep them coming.
Thanks guys! It's always a good day when Tom and Ben make something together.
Loved this episode, had a really nice casual atmosphere and all the goofiness I love
I love the upbeat island music for breaking the child's bones lmao
Thank you so much for this! This was so great :D
I absolutely love this one man dungeon crawling! Good pacing, lots of opportunity for comedy, and the imagery isn't broken by player switching.
"there is nothing in this dungeon" he says, jinxing himself into oblivion.. (Please do more of these, like 1000 year old vampire was amazing to watch).
Got to love how in sync Ben and Tom are 1:42:14
This is like a whole episode of Tom narrating stories to make up for the lack of intros! A perfect episode. :D
Love these solo games being ran like this, TYOV has been great. And you two bounce off each other so well its magic
27:50 NO consorting with behemoths of ANY KIND. If they are LARGE, you will be CHARGED
I love corrupt Jailer Ben. 😂
Love these so much. Tom + Ben = my favorite brand risk boys.
Instantly bought the physical version after watching this, love OSR style games and already loved Mork Borg.
Trivia: "Grotten" means "the cave" in danish, and as far as I can tell, the developer is from Denmark. Skål!
Det har du ret i ❤
And it just sounds good in English as well.
Btw, I'm the creator of this and is indeed Danish
Oddly enough, it means 'caves' in dutch, plural, and I kept being reminded of that each time I read it.
Love the variety these two player games add!!! Such an excellent addition to the channel!!!!!!!!
I know Tom's GM face well, every time I think "yeah, I did this to myself"

The sound designs in each, and everyone of these episodes keeps me invested
So good of Warwick Davis to do a cameo on Mystery Quest.

"namcaP", a yellow blob trapped in a maze and who eats ghosts? Wonder who that's supposed to be a reference to ;) (waka waka waka?)

"Monster #66"...
"Tiny black creature"...
"This death fae killed your family"...

Death Fae: No, Ben. I *am* your family!
