You'd think the recipe would suggest that too. These British cooking and taste testing videos where they never butter their pancakes, waffles or biscuits before eating them drive me crazy.
You conquered the hard part, but you are missing the butter on the waffles and maple syrup on both. That’s the sweet part. Vicki is doing awesome. Enjoy watching the cooking videos.
@@Busted-Buzzard lol.. it's weird huh! Also spices and condiments! I'm guessing that's why most find brittish food very bland!? I hear thst all the time from utubers who live there.
@@kristinallison5970 One of my cousins had to use 2 weeks of vacation time, she went to England, Scotland and Norway, she told me that the food in Scotland and Norway was amazing and in England ,it was very bland
😋😋 Yummy Ms. Vicki. They look amazing, yes as stated butter, strawberries and or blueberries on the waffles then syrup on the chicken and waffles. ❤❤. Great Job, I feel that we're right there with you as well.
If you double coat you get a crispier coating, so depends on what you want. And needs some butter and maple syrup. (Your golden syrup also ok, and dad used to 'make' syrup mixing brown sugar & water in a pan until it cooked down & caramelized a bit so that's good too, probably not healthy, but good.
Put a little less batter in the waffle iron. Don't ever fill it all the way to the edges. Once you close the top, the batter will spread out to fill the edges. It takes a bit of trial and error to figure out the exact amount to fill the waffle iron!😉
butter & maple syrup is a must with chicken & waffles to truly have sweet & savory....James obviously forgot about all the comments on the American trip food videos wondering why they never used gravies & sauces & dips & syrups that were provided to be put on the food lol
The sweet and savory of chicken and waffle with the syrup on it is what makes the taste combo pop making it an authentic American style Chicken and Waffles experience and as people have said a pad's worth of butter is also most often on the waffles once cooked.
As an American I've never tried this. However I've fried plenty of chicken. Looks soooo good. Love From Michigan and it's a very cold and snowy Evening ❤❤
Also, I didn't see how the eggs were added, but I beat the egg whites until stiff, then gently fold them in, and that makes the waffles lighter on the inside and crispier on the outside.
Vicki (Vicky? Vickie? How do you spell it?) The next time you make a roast chicken dinner use the left over chicken to make the Pennsylvania Dutch version of Chicken & Waffles. Make a thick chicken gravy and add all the leftover meat to it, then heat it all up together and pour over warm waffles. It's my favorite comfort food from my home state of Pa.
Not sure if you know, but chicken and waffles were born from folks wanted food after a night out (maybe drinking). At 2 am, do you eat dinner or breakfast? You eat chicken and waffles, a combo of both.
Good job Vicki. Some tips on the waffle iron.Dont use metal items on the grates.Use a pastry bristled brush and before each waffle brush the grates with cooking oil or bacon grease. There are all kinds of things you can top on waffles.Breakfast style examples:butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, different flavor jams, honey, ect. They can also be used for lunch and dinner meals too.
Double dipping the chicken is not about one solid coating, it's about doubling up the batter so it's extra crispy. But you make it how you like. I only put country gravy/ sausage gravy on chicken.
Great job. Good thing about cooking everyone has ideas. Like others have commented cook them a bit more. Crispy on the outside fluffy inside (if you pick one up by the corner it shouldn't sag much). The importance of this is when you butter them they wont get "soggy". Place chicken on top and then "must" have real maple tree syrup - not the fake stuff to drizzle over top to taste.... I prefer a bunch. Keep up the videos
I've had chicken 'n waffles many time, but never for breakfast. The best chicken n waffles have crispy waffles, so I'd let them cook a little longer. As others have said, you need maple syrup poured over both the chicken and the waffles.
Let me say again. Please PLEASE watch a couple of videos before you approach the recipe. Recipe is one thing but technique is another. These elements both looked good. But you missed the point.
I've never ordered chicken and waffles because I like waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, and that's a separate-plate-sorta thing if you'd want it with the chicken. I don't know of any restaurant that serves C&W how I'd like it.
Why are Brits so against putting anything on their food? No sauces, spices, salsas, syrup. These two never used anything the entire time they were in the US. It’s like they did zero research on how to make the food taste even better.
Your chicken looked great, Ms. Vicki! Chicken and waffles need ungodly amounts of butter on the hot waffles and honey on the chicken! Maple syrup works too. The waffles were probably a little under, and the batter looked pretty thick. Editing did not show what you put into the batter. My batter is thinner and my waffles do not bend when I take them out of the waffle iron. I use two chopsticks to remove the waffles.
Sending Love ❤. From Pensacola Beach Florida USA 🇺🇸. I Love the Cooking videos 😊❤. A piece of advice I know you're just starting it. But you need to make eye contact with the camera and talk like your talking to your audience. 😊❤
Less batter next time will help. Trial and error. They looked a little underdone/floppy. And definitely needs butter and some sort of syrup or honey. They looked a little dry judging how long it took Millie to get the food cleared from her mouth down her throat. 🤭Don't be afraid of sauces guys. Good first try, though, for sure! Keep it up!
I always leave the waffle in the iron forever, hoping for crispy waffle. Unfortunately my waffle iron is complete trash and is incapable of making a crisp waffle.😑. Needs maple syrup (if you can find it in Britain), honey, or maybe golden syrup (yall have that i think).
Chicken and waffles is traditionally served with a Louisiana style hot sauce poured over the chicken and maple syrup over the hot sauce. That's the way the Pennsylvania dutch did it, who are credited with making the recipe a thing in the US. It's absolutely not the same without the hot sauce.
THEY LOOK GREAT, VICKI!!! :) SUPER JOB!! SO, so YUMMY!!! :) HUGS to YOU, ALL!! ...and, the BIGGEST HUG for ARCHIE!! (Can't help it - I'm a GRANDMA, TOO!)
Maybe it's that I'm from the north of the US, but when I first heard of this combination, I thought it had to be a misprint, because nobody in their right mind would combine such mismatched foods. The reason is that I never have, and never will, pour syrup on chicken. It's absolutely idiotic.
Butter smeared on the waffles while hot, and pour a generous amount of syrup over the waffles and chicken! Great job Vicki!
Agreed!
Ditto!! Makes me hungry.
You would think that the recipe she followed would tell her about that.
You'd think the recipe would suggest that too. These British cooking and taste testing videos where they never butter their pancakes, waffles or biscuits before eating them drive me crazy.
Or the many comments baffled at James and Millie eating them dry while in the US.
Syrup usually goes on top of chicken and waffles
Plenty of butter on the hot waffles, with lots of maple syrup. Also, powdered sugar makes a nice touch. 🧇🧇
Butter waffles while hot,.let butter start melting then pour maple syrup over chicken n waffles
Maple Syrup to finish
You conquered the hard part, but you are missing the butter on the waffles and maple syrup on both. That’s the sweet part. Vicki is doing awesome. Enjoy watching the cooking videos.
Maple syrup , butter, pancake syrup or honey
it doesn't make a difference about what you put on them James will change it anyway. We usually put butter and Maple Syrup on the waffle.
Britts are scared of butter and syrup 😂

No spices. No condiments!
And sauces in general, not to mention spices and seasonings. Such a shame given their history in the spice trade, and now they don't even use them.

The waffles aren't meant to be dry. Always put butter on the hot waffles. Even if you don't want to use syrup or honey, never skimp on the butter.
100%! I can eat waffles without syrup, but never without butter!
Your mom seems to have so much fun in the kitchen and it's a joy watching her cook.
I like using chicken tenders or strips, because I don't like eating bone-in chicken when eating chicken and waffles.
Butter and syrup is a must.
Cool.👍
Great job. Maple syrup and butter is the most common.
Yep. Me, too.
Everyone forgets the hot sauce. Heresy.
Mom looks extra pretty today. ❤😊
Great job 👍😊,you pour syrup on the waffles ( pancake, waffle syrup) makes it yummy 😋,well done ✅ 😊
where is the melted butter and hot maple syrup?
Who could ever have guessed that crucial ingredients would be omitted?

Eat it, have it how you like it but in America it's normally served with butter and syrup.
Am Amazed !! Ive never made waffles but your suppose to put Maple Syrup on it !
She really should have poured syrup or honey over both the chicken and the (very dry) waffles.
Real Maple syrup on top is peak! 😋
Waffles could be a tad browner, but fine as is. Yes honey or maple syrup on the chicken is a winner!
Grab them by the corner! And get them out hot. All in one piece then cut them after you get them out. 😊
I stab with a fork, but if they ran into each other, you will have to separate first. Just a little less waffle batter.

Waffles should be hot with butter and maple syrup. Then chicken and waffle in one bite.
We put butter and maple syrup on our waffles, pancakes and French toast!
Need maple syrup for waffles or butter. I can use either one or both! ❤😊

Spray the waffle iron first and they should pop out nicely

The fried chicken does look amazing! And the waffles also. Your husband and family are very lucky! Eating good!
Butter and maple syrup to finish and your done hon.😊
Your mother did a good job making it, but where's the maple syrup or hot honey sauce to pour on it?

That reminds me of a bar in Louisville, Kentucky that had an omelette pizza for the same reason. It was perfect.

That’s the southern way the Pennsylvania Dutch way is rotisserie pulled chicken piled on top and a side of mash potatoes smothered in chicken gravy.
All you need now is syrup to go on top of the chicken and the waffles... and then dig in
Add butter and syrup and it would be perfect!!!! Yummmmmmm
A waffle iron? Just for us? 😅 Even a no stick waffle iron needs a spritz of oil.
BUTTER!! MAPLE SYRUP OVER ALL OF IT!!
They look beautiful, chicken looks great also. The waffles need butter and maple syrup.

Good job Vicky…always put butter and maple syrup
Try lifting the waffle a little and use a spatula or maybe try using a tong to get them out
You said something about grits… Grits are eaten several different ways. I put butter and sugar in my grits. Try it that way, sometime!
The point of this dish is the maple syrup or pancake syrup or fruit syrup or honey that you pour over both things.

The chicken looks great - waffles a little darker but load on the butter and syrup…..that makes it traditional.
Yes lots more syrup n butter on hot waffles n syrup on chicken

butter the waffles and maple syrup on top of all of it
Waffles are bread. Like your Yorkshire pudding. What’s not to “work” with fried chicken? Would be even better with either gravy or butter and syrup.
where is the maple syrup?
When it comes to waffles and Pancakes. Always have maple syrup. Eitherway I think you did a great job 👍
Biscuits and waffles are big in the south, I have never had a desire to eat them together. But great job.
