DMC's Battle for World Supremacy is our head to head category. (We also have the legendary 6 min. showcase battle and the newer DMC Online DJ Championship). While we do allow DJs to use DVS (digital vinyl systems) any DJ is welcome to use all vinyl. Here is Japan's DJ Yukichi winning the 2017 DMC Battle for World Supremacy using all vinyl and the Technics mixer! Enjoy!
They should have a vinyl and laptop category. Although I dig both and both formats but when it comes to battles there are a lot of different factors to consider.

DMC had an all vinyl category - the head to head battle you see above: Battle for World Supremacy. It went from 2000 or 2001 to 2015 all vinyl - but no one paid attention to this battle. Finally when the DJs who were actually registering to battle for this category dwindled to 8 - in the whole USA - and less in the UK too - DMC allowed DVS. I know people "want" an all vinyl category - but most don't realize that there are not very many quality DJs willing to battle all vinyl anymore. We could watch the battle fade out or allow new technology to rejuvenate the battle - and keep the youth involved. Dwells - still in high school - battling above probably would not have entered if it was vinyl only. DJs were pressing up their own vinyl for this battle anyhow - long before - and it was an expensive process.
Christie Z You made a interesting point. Now I think about it. if it weren’t for DVS the DMC would probably only have 5 people show up to battle.
@@christiez1228 I'd attribute that to publicity. I follow the DMC battles, and never heard of a vinyl-only battle. I'd enter that one, but I wouldn't go near one that involved pushing buttons and using software. I suspect hundreds of DJs would enter, if it existed, and they knew about it.
@@GregoryGioia We posted it everywhere like we do on all the social media platforms available to us at the time - said he won on all vinyl etc. PLUS he was battling Dwells who at such a young age was getting a lot of attention. The average DMC fan knows about the 6 minute original category and doesn't pay much attention to the other ones. I posted this one often too - a lot of all vinyl purists ignored it.

I don't think so, Yukichi f'd up in the last round. This was battle politics at its finest. Though the routines were clean theres was no variation, technicality to include scratching. That old craziness of vinyl and mp3 needs to be deaded. Dwells was robbed point blank. Congrats to Yukichi but Dwells had better skills. Come back again Dwells. I know you got it in you.

I'm basically looking at Skills, the better of the 2 . And I am well aware of Dwells mentors. I'm not looking at that and I'm not one of the judges. Its my opinion he got robbed thats it. In the end the qualified judges make their opinion. I don't know what country your from but peace illseen.
I think Dwelles lacked a kicker that Yuichi had in the last round and Dwelles felt a little more proficient in round one. Either way the battle was kinda average and Nothing to write home about.
I'll admit that's facts. I definitely used my 2 best sets vs. Erick Jay in the round before which was a real fuck up. No excuses tho. Kichi was dope

Need to get off the idea that Dwells isn't good. He's good. Look at it this way: He was a lot more musical than all the other competitors who didn't make it AND he really concentrated on just using the faders. Yukichi has mad balls for going vinyl only, but all he really had to do was be more musical. It's what's missing from a lot of the "technical" sets. I feel like "technical" shouldn't just mean how many times I can press buttons in one 90 second period, it should sound good, too. It's going to sound old timey but seriously, that's what's missing. The battle DJ's these days don't suck, it's just that for a lot of them their sets are hard to listen to.

Japanese D.J the bomb....using old school methods of creating phat beats vynil and mixer, just the way i like it. Dwells, all gadget up with laptop and petty push button mixer...lol.d.jays mix to their choosen field of choice...but I'm old school so Mixer mix and Vynil Scratching for me is the way to go....all other oppinioms - I dont give 2 hoots.lol

Dwells won the battle imo. Yukichi 2nd round mix was puzzling 🤔. But good job to both for keeping scratching alive.

I wonder. What are the actual odds of a skilled vinyl DJ actually losing in a battle to someone trying to battle them with a computer? There's an inherent display of manual skill with vinyl for starters. They killed me gifting a controller to the vinyl DJ. lol Oh well. Congrats to Yukichi and props for simply bringing vinyl to the set.

Yukichi to me shouldn't win that battle coz he really didn't do DJ battle attack towards Dwells like Dwells came there to battle Dwells should of won the finals DMC has really changed smh
dwells have more better sound than yukichi but not skilled. yukichi have fast hand but i vote for dwells

I'm sorry but this was a poor final match. nothing compared to our past DMC champions like vekked and craze. this was a very dissapointing final battle.

Dwells Got Robbed, rockin vinyl it has it charms, but noting yukichi did was pushing the envelope as far as rocking vinyl, Better luck next year Dwells!
